John McCain

 If you want to read a really good book, I would suggest this one:
"Faith of My Fathers" written by John McCain and Mark Salter.
There is a newer book by them that just came out this year: "The Restless Wave: Good Times, Just Causes, Great Fights and Other Appreciations".   

 Appreciations...I appreciate those in politics who work very hard and who do not always follow in the mainstream thinking of their own political party.  As an American, I mourn his loss to this country and to the world.
"Eternal Father, Strong To Save" is a hymn that I have chosen here in his honor.  Of course, it will be sung at his funeral, it has been associated with the U. S. Navy since the 19th century.  (The lyrics were written by an Englishman, William Whiting in 1860.)

    He was the very definition of courage, loyalty, and patriotism. His seat in the US Senate will be impossible to fill---a dedicated man who wasn't afraid of non-partisan work for the good of the country.

    I never agreed with his politics, but I admired John McCain as a true war hero and a man of honour and integrity. If all Republicans were like him, America would not be as endangered as it currently is.

    I was greatly saddened to hear of Mr. McCain’s passing. He was a most honorable and civilized man, humble, a Veteran, a man dedicated to the service of his country, a hero and I could go on and on. Thank you for this wonderful post about a very special person whose loss will be felt by not only the USA, but around the world.

    You wrote this so well. I have admired John McCain for decades.I felt that he always did what he thought was right. I can ask no more from anyone. We can only hope that others will step in to do the same.

    He is not of my party but I have never feared he would harm us. He was a just man who sought the best for all of us. He was an example I wish more followed.

    I do think John McCain was too far to the right for America's good

    BUT

    he obviously put country before party. And you have to respect someone in DC these days that does.

    Also while one would think after the 08 election that John McCain would be mortal enemies with President Obama, it was John's wish to have Obama speak at his funeral. Despite their political history and differences, they were good friends. That's very touching.

    It is sad that we have a President now who now has the second funeral where the family publicly stated that he is not invited for being a childish jackass.

    I am beyond sad that we have lost this man of integrity and honor. He loved his country more than his party. We need more men like this one. We need them so desperately.

    I was about to say something very similar to Kristi's comment. The world needs more politicians like this one. Sadly, the untrustworthy, greedy, power-driven kind seem to be dominating these days.

    Lovely tribute to a really good man and I fear there are not as many like him out there to fill his shoes. He was a hero and loved this country. Thanks for posting this.

    I love that hymn, my Grandfather was in the Royal Navy. His ship was sunk and he found himself in the Ocean and so it has meaning for me. Got to blog about that. Thanks for the hymn

    I love that hymn and the tune that goes with it. I loved McCain. He was my kind of politician and Republican, essentially a good man or one to whom being such a thing mattered a great deal.
