My friends, I think that if we truly enjoy something then we want to share that joy with others, don't you think? Am I the only one that notices beautifully wrapped presents? I think that a lot of people simply toss the paper away in the bin or if they are good stewards of the planet, they will at least recycle the paper!
Me? Why, I am like some MAD woman and store away some of the prettiest paper and re- use it again to wrap presents for friends and family! Just look at this...it was a present from Germany, can you see the German words on the paper? (Thanks, Meike!) And since my Dad was in Germany just after World War II, you know I had to wrap his birthday present in this paper! I happened to have this green ribbon... so even with the pink hearts, I still thought it was just right for my Dad! (After all, it is mostly the green ones that you notice!)
The TIME I have spent looking for just the right color ribbon or bow to go on a present...honestly, you have no idea, I think I must be quite mad...
And if I can't find one...I will crochet one! Of course, all of this takes ages...AGES, I tell you!
Since there have been so many weddings and anniversaries lately... I think I will have a nice song for you here. It is "Romance" and Richard can play this really beautifully but he says he has not been playing enough lately...maybe one day he will allow me to have him playing the guitar for you here! In the meantime, listen to this lovely song. Interestingly, no one knows who wrote the song but we can still enjoy it!
Dear Kay, thank you for this post and sharing that beautiful guitar solo. I love that song...didn't know anything about it though, not even the title. Also, yes, yes, yes, I LOVE wrapping gifts and making them as beautiful as possible, and I DO save wrapping paper and ribbons too. It's one of my favorite things to do. I suppose if I knew how to crochet I'd even join you in making hearts and ribbons by crochet as well!ReplyDelete
Sara, we are kindred spirits, I am sure! Although, I am sure that your wrapping is much better than mine! Happy you liked the guitar piece also but as good as this the guitarist is, my husband playing the song is even BETTER. Honestly he is! I hope to have a video of him one day here so you can agree with me! :-)Delete
I'm so glad that my little gift was so welcome, Kay! Like you, I save pretty wrapping paper (if I manage to get it off the gift without too much damage), ribbons and other things. What I come up with may not always look very good, but I do enjoy wrapping a present nicely and choosing matching colours for paper, ribbon and card, making it "themed" if possible.ReplyDelete
Happy Birthday to your wonderful Dad!
Your LITTLE gift? My friend, it was a HUGE gift from you, and I appreciated everything right down to the wrapping paper! I know that my wrapped presents might not be PERFECT but I am not that bothered, it is the COLORS that are important to me!Delete
OH And thanks for the well wishes for Daddy, his birthday was in April, like mine! :-) We will celebrate Father's Day tomorrow, and I am sure you must do the same thing on the same date where you are, so my best to your Dad also!!
Yep! I keep nice wrapping paper, ribbon etc.ReplyDelete
I did buy a roll of wrapping "paper" today. Actually it was purple cellophane. A friend;s mother is turning 101 Friday of next week...and I've got a few little gifts for her that I will wrap in the purple wrapping. The lady in question loves purple and all shades derived from it. The card I purchased is also mainly purple. She will get a kick out of it all.
I can't believe that a year has passed since we celebrated her 100th birthday in style. I did a fair bit of the catering for the party her daughter and her husband hosted at their home. Times flies by all too quickly.
I love the guitar clip. :)
How wonderful to have all that purple for her since she loves that color!! 101, that is a great age and certainly one to celebrate!Delete
Happy you liked the guitar, wait until you hear my Richard play it, his is even better!
Love that music! I do not save/reuse wrapping paper (I recycle though!) but I DO save and reuse bows. It seems such a waste to only use them once.ReplyDelete
I recycle wrapping paper too but many times, I save it if the color or look of it appeals to my artistic side!Delete
Yes, i save and reuse the pretty papers — i am very careful when i open my gifts so i don’t tear the paper.ReplyDelete
The pretty papers! Yes, you are like me, you understand!Delete
Beautiful paper and ribbons too are always saved here and reused again. Sometimes I even get some of them back in gifts from others too. When they are too pretty to throw away, they get used over and over again.ReplyDelete
Yes! Same thing for gift bags! My friends will delight me when they give me a gift in a special gift bag that I chose for them! And then...I will give it back to them again! Not sure how long we can keep one bag going! LOL!Delete
Rarely do I reuse, especially mine. I rip mine to pieces when I open stuff.ReplyDelete
Ah, you are young. One day, you will notice a paper that catches your eye and you will be more careful and want to save it and use it again. Even so, try to recycle!Delete
Hi Kay - we do re-use paper ...but I'm not a good wrapper of presents ... though I really notice those that are well wrapped and wish that I had their touch ... Brilliant present for your Dad - love the colour scheme ... cheers HilaryReplyDelete
Hey! Thanks, Hilary! My husband is the BEST one to wrap presents! He has wrapped boxes for me (for gifts for friends) and then, wrapped the lid separately...it shouldn't matter what gift is in the box, the box itself is so beautiful that my friends will use the boxes for storage!Delete
You have such a nice way of wrapping presents. Very pretty.ReplyDelete
Your OCD is showing. I don't save wrapping paper. I rip it off the package and there isn't much left to save.ReplyDelete
OCD? You think so? Maybe but I think I have an eye for color and it simply rules my life! If only I had the talent of an artist and translate this love of color into true art! Alas, I can only wrap presents and crochet.Delete
I do my best but I'm not the worlds best present wrapper-upper!ReplyDelete
That guitar playing and music is wonderful, I loved listening to it, thank you.
All the best Jan
Hey Jan! So happy you liked the song too, I only know it because my husband plays it so well, it is one of his favorites. xDelete
I like seeing well wrapped presents but I'm way too lazy to do them myself or perfect the method :)ReplyDelete
I am not even that fussy about being perfect with them, it is just the colors that I am so crazy about matching!Delete
I loved the classical guitar video. I tried to learn to play the guitar, but I was hopeless. I save wrapping paper, and bows, and ribbons, and boxes, and bags, and use them over and over. I'm sure your father appreciated the carefully wrapped present. It was thoughtfully and beautifully wrapped. I'm finally reading Joshua Slocum's book. Its opening line is the geography of my heart. It's home to me: "In the fair land of Nova Scotia, a maritime province, there is a ridge called North Mountain, overlooking the Bay of Fundy on one side and the fertile Annapolis Valley on the other." I'm so loving his book, but then so much of it is familiar to me. Thank you for prodding me to finally buy his book and read it!ReplyDelete
Oh Louise, you have made my day! I can't tell you how happy it makes me that you are loving Joshua Slocum's book! And our experience of the book is so very different, you are so familiar with the Bay of Fundy, so much that is the name of your blog!Delete
Once again, I am absolutely TICKLED that you are reading this book, I hope that you will love me forever for making you do so! :-)
I love you forever for lots of reasons!Delete
Right back at you, my friend!Delete
