Arabia Mountain With Ice

Ah, winter in Georgia...this past weekend was warm and beautiful.  The weekend before was beautiful also but it was cold with ice and some snow.  Want to see some icy photos of Arabia Mountain? Sure you do!

That is a solid sheet of ice on the vernal pools at the top of Arabia Mountain. This is really beautiful to see the ice sparkling in the sun. The photo might not show this like my eyes saw it, but trust me, it was a gorgeous sight.

Okay, we have walked halfway down the mountain now and we are looking towards the top...look at the blue sky! We have had our share of grey days so this was a welcome sight.

My Dad has had some serious health problems recently.  I spent all day Wednesday with him in the emergency room at the hospital.  He was admitted to the hospital that day and was released and sent home yesterday.  Please say a prayer for him, my friends.  If you have read my blog for any time, you will know that my Dad is the best!  He was so funny with the nurses in the hospital, he had them laughing all the time.  By Saturday, he felt well enough to play a game with my nephew and myself.  It was a game of "Sevens".  Do you know how to play it? I learned it from my in-laws in England and I have IMPORTED it to this country! (Hey, I don't know, you all probably know it already and it  might have been INVENTED here for all I know, but the fact is, I learned it in England and I have told people here about it, and they had never heard of it!)  If you want to know how to play it, you may read about it just here.  It is an easy game that doesn't take too much time, so it was perfect to play in a small hospital room.  (And my Dad won the first two games that we played and he was so tickled to win!)   I will appreciate your best wishes and prayers for my Dad.  I thank you in advance for them!

I found a video that Jeff Nix took at Panola Mountain of the ice melting and you can see, it almost looks like something from a science fiction movie... like black oil oozing under the ice, but of course, it is just another example of perception, it is simply water moving over rock under the ice.

Take care, my friends. and remember, there is joy and beauty in all seasons.

If you go to about 3:10 in this video, you will see the views of Arabia Mountain and Stone Mountain from the top of Panola Mountain! (And Jeff calls it Davidson/Arabia Mountain...but almost everyone here just calls it Arabia.)

  1. That video... you're right, it looks like something you'd see in a science fiction movie, like something alive under the ice! Well, it is alive, isn't it - water is really only dead when it's been boiled and distilled.

Sorry to hear about your Dad's health problems. You know I love him, even though we have never met and I only know him through your blog. Glad to hear he's been able to leave hospital again. It is so like him to not lose his great sense of humour even there in the emergency room!

I hope there will be many more such blue sky dies for you, dear Kay, and less of the grey ones - both literally and metaphorically.

    1. Oh yes, Meike, I meant to send you an email before I did this post, I know you love my Dad! He is doing much better! In fact, I called him at lunch time today (I knew he had a doctor appointment later...and he was out having lunch at one of his favorite restaurants! Quite different from the Wednesday before, when he was on oxygen!)
And I thank you for your well wishes!

  2. I'll be keeping him in my prayers and wishing for the best. I know how close to your heart he always is. He's lucky to have you.

I've never heard of the game of Seven. It sounds very interesting though.

I love your header flower, Kay. It's breathtakingly lovely.

I wish you would learn Sevens, it is fun to play for adults and for kids!
And that flower was in my Dad's garden in mid December, it is a camellia and the creamy white just took my breath away!

  3. I haven't played sevens but we used to play card games a lot when I was little - Queenie was our favourite. Best of wishes to your Dad - I will keep you both in my thoughts. X

  4. That certainly looks like an amazing place - wonder how it got its name? Water under ice is intriguing - a bit like a lava lamp. Really sorry to hear your dad's been unwell - get better soon - an entire virtual community will hold him in their thoughts...

    1. The stone from the mountain could only be quarried in the summer, and since they think the stone reflects the heat and can be 140 degrees, it is thought that they might have said it was as hot as Arabia! I have walked just a bit on the mountains in the summer and I
      think that might be likely!
Thank you for your well wishes for my Dad!

  7. Awe, from one Georgia girl to another, the Georgia mountains are beautiful, any time of the year but special in the winter.
Praying your dad continues to do well.

  9. Oh Kay! I am so sorry that your Dad has been poorly. I hope that he will soon be "in the pink." I used to play Sevens when I was a child and then I played it with Kate as she was growing up. Apart from that and "Snap" I am not much of a card player. My memory is not good enough to play cards!!

    1. Thanks, Pat! I meant to email you but I have had very little time at the computer lately! Our son loved to play cards with his English grandparents, and so, when he learned Sevens, he taught his American Granddad to play it too! YOUR memory? Listen, hon, when I was telling my nephew how to play Sevens, I couldn't remember which card you put down first...was it the seven of hearts or the seven of diamonds? (I said hearts, but when I asked Richard when I got home, he said diamonds. Ooops!! Oh well, hearts worked too.)

  18. Firstly, Kay...I wish your father all the very best and I hope his recovery is painless, quick and positive. Hugs to you both...hugs to you all. May only good things come your way.

I could do with some of that ice here at present. We're experiencing horrible steamy, sticky humidity! I hate it!

    Take good care...
