Done And Dusted/Turn, Turn,Turn

I made this as a gift last year, and I have made more as baby presents just lately...but I didn't take photos of them!

Whenever I have lots of things to do, I always think of this expression "done and dusted" once I have finished my tasks!  I love that phrase, don't you?  I have only heard it in England, and I think it is one that we need to use here!    I like to say it at work when I have done something, it makes my co-workers laugh since they have never heard it!  Another one that I like, "don't get your knickers in a twist", is one that is self-explanatory. I think that very often we need to tell ourselves that!  I know that I do for myself anyway, especially when I have lots to do and don't know which way to turn!
I have been very busy lately but never so busy that when I see the goldfinch perched on the hummingbird feeder that I can't run and grab the camera!  The small red plastic "trap-it" that is above the hummingbird feeder holds water and that creates a barrier that keeps ants out of the feeder! It works too! And a wonderful added bonus, there are several birds that come down and drink water from that tiny red cup, the goldfinch being one of them.

Drink up, little hummingbird!

I hope all of you are getting through the necessary things that you have to do in life but still finding time to enjoy the beauty.  And when you get those things done, tell yourself it is finished-
Done and Dusted!

Hey! You know what song will go with this post? Why, "Turn, Turn, Turn" by the Byrds, of course!
(Pete Seeger wrote the music, but most of the lyrics are from the Bible, from the Book of Ecclesiastes.)

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, a time to reap that which is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace
.

  1. Like the little water trap to keep ants out of the nectar. I have them for our feeders also. But sometimes the finches drink the water out. xoxo,Susie

  2. It is the season for watching the beautiful birds, isn't it? One thing about feeding kittens is that you can never be "done and dusted" because they are always hungry again!

  5. We are blessed too and have goldfinches and humming birds to watch. It's such an amazing time of year to be outdoors. I'd never seen the little trapper contraption for keeping the ants out before. That's a great idea!

    1. I got that little trap at the Sunflower Festival one year and wondered if it would work. I was very happy to find out that it does!

  6. Have never heard the Done and Dusted bit before, but have definitely heard the Don't Get Your Knickers in a Twist" before. First time was a bus conductor in London to someone hopping on the bus.

    1. Stick with me, and you will learn more! You should see me around my English mother-in-law, I am always laughing at her expressions and she has no idea why that is so!

    1. Oh yes, I read that Pete Seeger was amused that he was given so much praise for that song since he really took the lyrics from that book in the Bible!

  11. Gorgeous photos of the birds, Kay! I've heard the knickers saying which I really love. I haven't heard "done and dusted" though. That's great! Your little baby gifts are so adorable. I can just imagine the smiles you get when you give those out.

  12. Hi Kay

    That is a great song from a great band. On the subject of Pete Seeger, I have recently bought a box set of all the Weavers' albums. They were the slightly upset not terribly young men ( and woman) before the angry young men brigade came along!

    In answer to the question' how are you?', a great aunt of mine always said ' not so dusty, well brushed'. It was a strange childhood.

    And belated anniversary wishes.

    1. Angry young men, yes that about sums things up now.

      We MUST get together and compare our childhoods, YOU will lose when we talk about strangeness, I will beat you, I promise you!
      Thanks, Henry, for our anniversary wishes! Take care!!

  14. I always consider it a feat to get a photo of a hummingbird! They have begun feeding at the sage we can see while we eat dinner. Who can ever get tired of watching birds?

  17. Kay, what a great post. I love that expression "done and dusted" and hadn't heard it before. I'll have to adopt that into my vocabulary if you don't mind. And what gorgeous bird shots! You sure get different birds where you are in Georgia than where we are. We only get the goldfinches migrating through for a few weeks and the hummingbirds do visit, but not as often as we'd like. Hope you a re doing well!! xoxo Silke

  18. Thank you, Silke! Now, when I see that you have finished one of your art projects, I will think of you saying it is "done and dusted"!
    We love our birds here, but also, you get some shore birds that we don't see here. I lived in St Mary's, Georgia as a teenager and I remember some of the birds there!
    Lovely to see your comment, dear Silke!
