Memorial Day/Strawberries And Swimming

Early morning on Memorial Day, Richard and I walked the trails at Panola Mountain State Park.  From this wooden deck, you look over the rock outcrop and you can see Stone Mountain in the distance but the camera doesn't always see it.
Very close to Panola Mountain is this strawberry farm where you can pick your own strawberries. You can't tell from this picture that Richard took of me, but I am in my ELEMENT in this strawberry field!  I am descended from a long line of farmers and the farmer in me must be enjoying just choosing the ripe strawberries without doing any of the work that has gone into growing them!

It got hot picking those strawberries, so why not go and cool off with my family in my brother's swimming pool?  I was able to get this shot of the beach ball in mid-air!  Doesn't this look like fun? How nice to lie back in this pool and look up at those puffy white clouds against that blue sky and to see all the beautiful green trees all around the yard!  Gorgeous spot on a gorgeous day.
After swimming, those strawberries were waiting that I had just picked that morning!  JOY!

  2. Oh my that looks so inviting! What a lovely yard and pool! The strawberries look so yummy but I think the hardest part is the picking..so low to the ground! But well worth the effort. Looks like a great time!

    1. My brother and sister-in-law are both perfectionists, and it shows in their house and yard, both so perfectly beautiful!
In this strawberry field, the plants are "banked up" so to speak, so I didn't have too far to bend over to get them. Now, for my tall husband, that was a different story!
      :-)

  3. The strawberries and the pool both look good to me. I've not got any fresh ones around hear yet. I'm going to have to look for some soon. The strawberry season doesn't last long.

    1. We enjoyed them in England this time last year. They say "stroh-BER-ries" over there, even when I try, I can't say it that way!
Who knew that picking strawberries could give me such joy?

  4. I remember picking loads of strawberries from a farm in Wisconsin many years ago. They are so expensive in Hawaii and usually a bit squashed by the time they get here. Your berries looks so perfect! Yum!

    1. That was so much fun to choose and pick those strawberries!
As a travel agent, I am remembering folks bringing me pineapples from Hawaii...they were so good!!
(This didn't happen in the later years of working as a travel agent, did they get too expensive or did they stop them bringing fruit into the country even from Hawaii?)

  5. Looks like a great time all around on a beautiful day, especially being by the pool. Are those banana plants growing on the right side of the photo? Are they in the ground year round? If so, I am SOOO jealous!

    1. Oh yes, Martha, you would have loved the pool AND the flowers. (The blue hydrangeas were in this garden!) Yes, well spotted...those are banana trees on on the right side of the photo and I believe my brother cuts them down and they just come back!
On the left side of the photo, behind my niece who has just thrown the beach ball, those are PINEAPPLE plants and both of them had pineapples on them!! They are grown from the tops of pineapples! My brothers can do ANYTHING!!

    1. I remember picking them as a child from our neighbor's big garden. The color of those ripe strawberries being washed in a big white sink is a very fond memory, that bright red against that white, I remember wishing that I could paint a picture of it!

    1. You must have lots of strawberries fields where you are!!
Get out there and start picking and let's see if YOUR hubby takes a photo of your back side like mine did! :-)
(Since I had my Dad picking peas, I thought I might as well show myself doing the same!)
That pool is great! My brother used to cut out pictures of swimming pools from catalogs when we were kids. So happy he has his pool and that he likes to share it!!

  12. We have been strawberry picking the last couple of weeks, Kay, all in our own backyard and the pickings have been delicious with morning yogurt and ice cream too. Sadly, we do not have a relative with a pool to cool off in after a week of above-average temps.

    1. Thanks, Terry. That header photo was taken at All Souls Church in Eastbourne, England exactly one year ago.
I also have memories of picking stawberries as a child, so excited to pick them then, AND now!! (I must be a big kid.)
