Madison And Monroe

"Joy and Laughter To All The World", what a nice epitaph.  You remember Laurel and Hardy, don't you?   The thin one, Stan Laurel  was from England.   The chubby one, Oliver Hardy, was from Georgia!  Madison is not far from my Dad's, and I took these photos.  It is a pretty town and was voted one of the best places in live in the whole country!  Shhh...don't tell too many people now, we don't want the place swamped now, do we?

Another small town that isn't too far from here is Monroe.   And we celebrated my brother's 50th birthday party there in March, so I took some photos there too! (Sorry, no photos of people but I have a few of the town.)  Happy 50th, Scott!

If anybody is looking for a good rocking-chair, you can always come to Monroe, Georgia.

The days are getting longer now, so wherever you are in the world, I hope you are enjoying some beautiful sunrises.  Look at the sky and enjoy.   Free entertainment for all!

  1. A very apt epitaph. When I was quite young Laurel and Hardy used to be on television over here on Saturday mornings and I loved them.
Both towns look delightful. There are some beautiful buildings, I can see why it would be desirable to live there.

    1. Hey Tracey!
Thanks for your comment! These little towns are really prettier than my photos. That's what happens when I have the camera, and not Richard!
Hope you are doing well these days.
      Love,
      Kay

  2. Hey! You're in the header picture!

Sorry for being AWOL again... or maybe not. Haha! It's funny you mentioned "Monroe" in this post. I've been hooked with NBC's SMASH lately. I've even made a post about it just now. O_o

PS Belated happy fiftieth to your brother! :))

  4. Hi Kay!

When I read Madison and Monroe I thought you were going to speak of the presidents. Ha! I love those idyllic, picturesque downtown areas. Will have to add them to my Georgia list! Hope you're having a good week....

    XOXO, Audrey

I realized that that sounded like the presidents but decided to leave it, since that is what the post was about! Ha, I'm so darn funny!
Hope you are having a good week too!

  5. Small towns should stay small enough that if you do something you shouldn't, your parents know about it before you get home! ;)

Love Laurel and Hardy, they were the best.

And I love Laurel & Hardy too, one English, one from the South, my kind of match-up!

  6. Good morning Kay,
I enjoyed your pictures, what pretty, clean towns. And I'm glad you reminded us which one was Oliver Hardy, that would of bugged me the rest of the day trying to remember which was which! :D
They were my husbands favorites, them and the 3 Stooges!

I like the 3 Stooges too, I know there is a movie out now about them, but I saw a TV movie on them a few years ago, and really liked them.

  7. Lovely piccies again! And yes, those towns look so tidy and clean. Washington Street looks like something out of a James Stewart movie.
    But we have bluebells too!

    1. Hey Biddy!
Thanks! And yes, Madison reminds me of Bedford Falls from "It's A Wonderful Life" with Jimmy Stewart!
Now Biddy, you know the bluebell photo was taken in 2010 just outside of Eastbourne, England. If we have bluebells here, I have never seen them!

  8. Hello Kay, Georgia is beautiful. We were in Savannah briefly. The beauty of magnolia trees are still in my memory. Maybe we'll pass by from Monroe next time to buy some rocking chairs, they look adorable. I didn't know Oliver Hardy's middle name was Norvell. Great childhood favorites.. Happy belated birthday to your brother. Be well

  9. I love small towns, Kay; they are so quaint - and QUIET. I used to live in a big city and moved away from there three years ago. We now live in a city with a population just over 100,000 people. I just love it here. I would never go back to big city life; it's so much more peaceful here.

Your photos are beautiful; such lovely places to live. My husband and I often joke about Laurel & Hardy, so your mention of them put a smile on my face. Happy (belated) birthday to your brother. May he always have health and happiness.

  10. Dear Martha,
I looked up the info on the area where you live, and it looks beautiful! Better not show my husband, he will want to move to Canada!
I was pleased to see this marker up in Madison for Oliver Hardy and thought they did a good job on what was written up for it. I love well written words, no matter where they are!
And thanks for the birthday wishes for my little brother (even though he's 50, he will always be my little brother!) He bought me the most beautiful dark purple butterfly bush, for my birthday, is that a great present or what?!

  12. kj,
You sound a lot like me, some would say that we have a split personality, but I say that we are just able to love both sides of things!

  13. You've shown two very attractive towns. I do love seeing pictures that show a way of life.

I don't know about sunrises - they are 5:30 in the morning here at the moment. When they are at civilised times, I do love them, especially as our windows face east.
