Dr. Who/ Some CHICK!

It was just announced today that the 13th Dr. Who will be...a woman!  WHAT was that?  Yes, the new regeneration this time will be Jodie Whittaker, you might know her from the TV show, Broadchurch, which by the way also stars David Tennant, a former Dr. Who!  (Um, I think the correct term is "regeneration", you have to forgive me, I honestly can't remember these kind of things.)
Here is my question for you, are you a Dr. Who fan?  I must admit my favorite was Christopher Eccleston but I also quite enjoyed David Tennant.  Here is a bit of trivia for you: David Tennant is married to Georgia Moffett and she is the daughter of the fifth Dr. Who, Peter Davison!  Now, I know this is not the news of the week but it is one of those little facts that will forever and always lodge in my brain not doing me any good so of course I feel obligated to share it!

So...what do I think of  woman as Dr. Who?  Keep an open mind, I say.  I might not like her just as I didn't like the last Dr. Who.  Couldn't quite my finger on why I didn't like him in that role, I just didn't. Here's the thing though, if you say you don't care for her in this role, you will be accused of sexism!

The Dr. Who news was released today just after the Men's Single Final at Wimbledon where Roger Federer won his historic 8th win! First man ever to do so! Did you see him after the match? So gracious, he spent the first few minutes praising his opponent.  They told us during the match that during this past week that Roger Federer had prepared a meal for 40 people, did all the shopping and cooking himself!  What a great guy! (Think that they said it was this past Friday...could be wrong about that, I don't get hung up on details too much, I look at the big picture, but when you write a blog, you have to pay attention, folks will call you out on it!)

Let's see...tennis and sexism.  There must be something on YouTube that would somehow apply...you know I found it for you!

                                    Some chick!

  1. It's about bloody time they had a female Dr Who, I say! And that Roger Federer is a tennis MACHINE!

And yes, I knew you would love the female Dr. Who! :-)

  2. I am a new fan to Dr Who. I am only familiar with the last three generations. I also don't adjust well to change so I will reserve my opinion. I liked Clara as his assistant too.

    1. My favorite assistant was the one with Christopher Eccleston, Billie Piper...I thought she was great!
I had to learn about Dr. Who when I married Richard in 1983, they showed the old ones in the 80's and Richard had to explain it all to me!

  3. If Georgia Moffet is the daughter and wife of Dr Who, is she guilty of incest?

I hope you saw my last post with the Mozart joke!
Wonderful to see your comment here, John! Hope you and your brother have been having good times!

  4. While i haven't followed the good Dr. in years, i think it's best to simply wait and see how she does in the role. She just might be brilliant.

    1. She very well might be! I am getting old and change is harder for me!

  5. People are so busy talking about the new Who in one way or another that I had absolutely no idea who won Wimbledon. Congrats to Roger Federer. As far as the female Who goes; I have to reserve judgement until it really happens.

    1. What? You don't watch the Men's Final for Wimbledon? I almost always watch it every year but for some reason, I didn't see it last year when Andy Murray won!
Dr. Who, I always find it interesting to see who they choose for the new one!

  6. Yes, I did watch Roger last night (Aussie time) win at Wimbledon...I've always been a Federer fan. He's terrific, both as a player and as a person, in my opinion. I'm a huge fan of Rafael Nadal, too, but not of Murray (nor am I a fan of our two Aussie clowns, Tomic and Kyrgios...I wish they'd pack up their racquets and disappear from the game).

I heard re the new Dr. Who on the news this morning. Not being one of the millions of Dr. Who fans, the only season of Dr. Who I've ever watched was when David Tennant played the Doctor. I will watch anything Tennant is in.

    1. I adore Federer and Nadal. I know that some people find Andy Murray a bit abrasive but for myself, I quite like him!
Like you, I also love David Tennant! I am amazed when I hear his Scottish accent, after you have heard him as Dr. Who with the English accent!

  7. I don't watch network tv, so I don't who Dr. Who is.
I do like your header as you stand looking out over the water toward England.

    1. Oh! You should check out Dr. Who! It's really quite entertaining!
I am glad you like my header photo but guess what! That is me IN England and I am in Eastbourne, looking out over the English Channel, and I must be gazing towards the coast of France!

  8. Now I'm intrigued and may have to watch some Dr. Who. I didn't know he was different characters.

  9. I'm not pleased, I consider it pandering like the remake of Ghostbusters with an all woman cast.

    1. Oh my goodness, you MUST, you MUST, you MUST see the new Ghostbusters! I didn't go to see it at the movies but we watched it on DVD and it was really, really funny and very respectful of the original, honest it was!
I really didn't think I would like it either but it was great! Make sure you see it!!

  10. I have never followed either Dr. Who nor Wimbledon (or any other tennis on the telly), but this post once more confirms my conviction that you would make a GREAT addition to my pub quiz team, Kay :-)

    1. By the way, I watched "Broadchurch" and found it a very well done drama. David Tennant to me, of course, will forever be part of the Harry Potter universe!

    2. Ha! I would LOVE to be on your team but with my luck they would ask me (for example)...What is the name of the Dr. Who daughter that married ANOTHER Dr. Who...and my mind would go blank and you would be astounded since you would know that I know the answer!! That is my brain for you!
I also liked Broadchurch and like the commenter said above, I love David Tennant in anything!

  11. I started watching DR Who again all through Chris E then D. T. and half of Matt Smith but for me it stated to lose its way after that with poorer scripts and more technical jargon thrown in to replace a lack of good ideas. Couldn't get into it after that so not that bothered now. Most long running series dip in quality after a while or when they get the tag ' must watch TV'. Usually the kiss of death for any programme.

    1. We are so much alike! Like you, I thought the scriptwriting became a bit lame. Still like to keep up with the show though, it is a part of your culture!

  13. I watched the show for a while, some years ago, and I just don't watch as much TV as I used to. The matter of the woman is fine with me. It's a mind bending show anyway, or it's supposed to be.

    1. To be honest, I only like to watch the British shows! When people start talking about the shows that are popular here, I don't know what they are talking about!
A mind bending show, that is a good way to describe Dr. Who! You might be interested to know that one of the episodes of Dr. Who (it was from years ago, one of those with Christopher Eccleston) had a very strong element of Christianity about it. Wish I could find it...maybe they will repeat it one day!

  14. Well, hard to follow William Hartnell - but I reckon Jodie will cope. Surely, gender isn't an issue for a Time Lord? On a serious note, I don't get what all the fuss is about - people are so hung up. Roger Federer is a gent, isn't he?!

    1. Gender isn't a big issue for Time Lords, only for U.S. Presidential candidates! LOL.
I love Roger, as I love all gentlemen!

  16. I have been a Dr. Who fan since the beginning with William Harnell. I have been reading about the rumors of a female Dr. Who for several months now. I liked Peter Caripaldi very much and will miss him. As for Jodie Whittaker, I say go for it Jodie, I wish you all the best. There will always be the naysayers no matter who the next Dr. Who is, male or female. The proof of the pudding and all that :)

  17. I've missed the whole Dr. Who craze, although I'm sure that I would have been a fan. So many choices in this crazy modern life! I hope you enjoy her, Kay!
