Pachelbel's Canon/ Kay's Canon

Thank you all so much for your sweet comments on my last post sending our son best wishes on his birthday.  Very much appreciated! Did you know that my son and husband are guitar players? They are very good and I hope one day to get one or both of them to play here for you, but in the meantime...

If you click on the video above you can listen to some beautiful music as you look at the photos from a beautiful November in Georgia, USA.  The music is by a German Baroque composer by the name of Johann Pachelbel.  You may read about him here.  I wonder if he did ever meet Johann Sebastian Bach?  It would be nice if they had met at a wedding (which is suggested in this Wikipedia article I have given you to read) since this piece of music is often played at weddings.  For some reason, they have begun playing it just before Christmas. I just heard it on the radio today.  (Nice music for Advent, perhaps?)  Since my husband plays the guitar, he found this from Youtube for you and I am sharing it with you here.   It is my hope that Richard will learn this and can play it for me whenever I ask it of him.  And even though I don't know why it is considered to be for Christmas, I am glad that it is.  Beautiful music is always welcome.

(How little can I make myself here that you can barely see me?  I'd go for smaller if I could!)

These photos were taken at Arabia Mountain, Panola Mountain and the Monastery of the Holy Spirit which are very close to me, all are within the Arabia Moutain National Heritage Area, a very special area which you may read about here!

Anybody who has read my blog for a while knows my love for Arabia Mountain and Stone Mountain, but I need to tell you about Panola Mountain, which we visited this weekend.  That will have to wait for another post!  In the meantime, thanks so much and welcome to my newest followers!  I love the people who visit me as much as I love my beloved Arabia Mountain.  Thank you!  I love you all but I ADORE all of you who leave me comments!
(Sorry I have to keep using that word but I loved the way Andy Serkis said it in that clip I gave you from a recent post. I really mean it.)

That very last photo was of a small tree in our backyard and that was so bright on Thanksgiving morning that I just had to snap that photo very quickly before the sun moved away from it.  And my header photo was also in the backyard, the bright Georgia sun makes everything warm and colorful.

  1. Kay- That is one of my all time favorite pieces of music in the world. My son plays this on piano. He also plays guitar and I don't know if can play it on guitar, or not.

Your mountains are all beautiful. I grew up in the mts. of PA and we could see seven counties from our house...and while I love the mountains even as a child I longed for the water-isn't that odd?

I love your colorful leaves. Ours are long gone now and we have a bit of snow. Blessings to you- xo Diana

    1. Oh, I love this on the piano too! So happy you love it also.
Our "mountains" are really just huge rocks! I know that sounds funny but it is true, we have mountains but they are further away in North Georgia. (The mountains here are monadnocks.) Like you, I love the beach too!
Our leaves are almost gone now, but that's okay, the winter has a charm all its own. xx

  2. I love this piece and you're correct when you state it's become associated with weddings - at least it has here. I haven't heard it played at Christmas time yet. Your fall shots are simply gorgeous and fyi I expanded that tiny one of you to full screen and you look lovely as always :)

    1. Oh, you are a naughty girl, can you enlarge me to full screen? What a cruel world it is! :-)
That was a no make-up day and I'm afraid it is a necessity for me.
Glad you like this music too! xx

  3. Oooh, I think I see a yellow gingko in the mix there! You know I'm a big fan. In fact, in your picture, aren't you folding some leaves up for me to see??? Hee hee...

    1. Yes! The clever monks planted those gingkos right beside the church. They are breathtaking!
Audrey, you and I both know that you MUST bend down and pick up those beautiful yellow fans and hold them in your hands. Am I right in thinking you do the same?
      :-)

    1. Yes, but does he do so while riding a horse?
Hey! Don't give him any ideas! :-)
      Just kidding! HA HA
So happy to have this on here and hope my hubby will learn to play it too.

    1. It IS exquisite, isn't it? And did you read that this piece of music was really unknown until the 20th century? I wonder what other music there could be that might be hidden from us? I hope it comes to light if it is as good as this.
And my husband listens to me and finds the best things for me!

  6. It is a wonderful piece of music, and I must admit I always thought it was by Johann Sebastian Bach... and I also must admit that I did not listen to it just now, because it makes me cry. It gets played at funerals here in Germany, too, and although I had opted against any music for Steve's funeral service in Germany (we did have music at the one in England), it was still a bit too much for me right now.
The pictures are so beautiful, including your header! As we speak (i.e. as I am writing this), the first snow flakes are beginning to fall in Ludwigsburg, right in time for the first Advent weekend.

    1. I thought it sounded like Bach too! I love J.S. Bach!
I can see it could be played at funerals too, although, I think I like it better for weddings myself.
I understand you not wanting to hear it just yet.
Thanks, I wondered if anyone liked the bright red leaves on my header! They are almost gone now, those leaves. November's leaves were incredibly beautiful this year, they seemed very late, but I they made up for it with the color!
Ah, snow falling in Ludwigsburg, that sounds lovely. Advent begins Sunday! That is why the music is being played now, it is perfect for this time before Christmas! I have added that thought to my post. Thank you, my friend!

    1. So happy you like it too! I didn't think that I could have edited myself out until after I had done my post. Typical!
And I promise Panola is the last mountain (or monadnock) that we have. really, the very last one!

  8. Lovely music and good pics, in spite of that woman who keeps standing in front of the photographer. Is she his stalker perhaps?

    1. Ha! We don't know who that crazy lady is really, she keeps hogging the photos. Always messing up Richard's great shots!

  12. Thank you for the music - it was just lovely with the photos. I'm not really a classical fan but I've always loved guitar - one of my favourites is a collection by Julian Bream. Looking forward to the mountain photos. We have lovely scenery here but it's the scale of it in the US which is so amazing.

    1. So glad you liked the music too! I am a huge fan of music but I really do like all types. I can't tell you exactly what I like, I only know for sure when I hear it!
My English husband really loves the mountains in North Carolina, which is where we spent our honeymoon, thirty years ago next June!

  13. Your photos are so lovely! I'm jealous that you have color on your trees this late! I love the guitar and this piece in particular. My son is also a wonderful guitar player. So was my Dad and I could listen to guitar forever! Thanks for sharing that. I clicked on the pic with you in it....I enjoy seeing my blog friends and wish others would include their faces in more posts! Oh, my brother lives in Georgia too BTW...(North of Atlanta just a bit)

    1. Thanks! And the color in November really was somthing to see!
So funny, I didn't know that if you click on the photo you can make it bigger until Jane told me that in one of the first comments! It seems that I should have known that, but I can't seem to remember things these days! We love guitar in our household and like you, I love to hear my husband and son play music.
My uncle lives in Canton and my son spends a lot of time in Kennesaw. HA! Your brother might live right next door to my Uncle John! Small little world, I love it.

    1. Since Richard is so good at music and photography, I think he should make a musical video! Keep reading my blog, I talked him into writing a post, maybe he'll go for the music video too!

  15. Love your photos as always, Kay. Our Kentucky trees have already shed their leaves. I am looking forward to hearing your husband and son play guitar, when you post it here. My husband is very musical too. He plays guitar and sings (lots of Irish and Scottish ballads), but only to himself in the basement. I don't think I could ever convince him to let me video tape a song or two for my blog.

    1. Dear Mairead,
Thank you! And our colorful leaves are almost gone now, but the ones left are muted and dark but even they have a beauty all their own.
Oh, I wish you could convince your husband to play guitar and to sing! That would be so wonderful for you to have it on your blog. Can't you use that famous Irish charm on him? :-)
