Lemon Honey Drink (Just Don't Burn Your Goozle!)

Feeling under the weather and need a soothing hot drink? This is what I do... squeeze the juice of half an organic lemon into a cup. Add 2 big tablespoons of local honey. Be sure to angle the cup so that if you have any drips of honey, it will be on the side where your lip will go. (Yes, I do think of everything!) Leave the spoon of honey in the cup...pour boiling hot water into the cup. Stir. (See, all that honey on the spoon? It is now in your drink!)  Leave just long enough to cool so you don't burn your goozle out!  (Wow, that is memory from my childhood...that is what my Dad used to say to me! Anybody else remember that word?)

Now, my Dad would tell me to put some WHISKY into that drink, I am sure! That leads me into a song...and it is perfect for this post because besides having this cold/bronchitus  problem, I also had a little fall this week! I am okay, just scratched and scraped up a bit.  I fall down but I get up again!

Hope to be back with my blogging soon. If I have left comments on anyone's blog and they don't make a bit of sense, just blame the drugs!

  1. LOL- My friend used to drink a pint of ginger brandy and he 'sweat it out'. Honestly, I hate to say it worked but I could have never done it. I hope you feel better soon, Kay. Take good care! xo Diana

  2. What a cute song on the video.
I was not familiar with the word goozle. So looked it up and listened to the pronunciation. Learned it was a Southern word. I will try it out on my husband. :)

    1. I also looked it up, do you know, I hadn't thought of that word for years until I wrote this post! I have a lot of words from my childhood that I couldn't say at school or kids would make fun of me, "goozle" being one of them.

    1. I love lemon, I love the look of it and how magical it is when adding it to a dish. Lemon and hot water in the morning, I think I have read that many doctors recommend it.

  5. I love honey and lemon in my tea and have it that way often. No whisky needed. I agree it's very good when you need a pick me up.

  7. So sorry about your fall and your cold/bronchitis! This drink sounds like one we used to use for colds and flu. And I've never heard the word goozle! Did anyone besides your Dad use it?

    1. Oh yes, we all used it where I came from! There are many other words that we often used a lot that I never hear anymore, I need to write a post about them! :-) Sure do miss my Dad and his way of talking, I think I will still use the same words just to keep them going.

  8. That was a regular when we were kids when we got a cold or sore throat!

Take good care of yourself, Kay...I'm sorry to hear you've not been feeling well. A friend and I were just talking on the phone and both of us were saying the fear of a fall grows stronger as one grows older. It is so easy...when least expected.

PS.....(Don't add so much whisky to the lemon drink!!!!) :)

    1. I didn't have any whiskey! And even if I did, I was on medication also, so you know you can't have that with meds!
I like to walk so much, I don't want to develop a fear of falling...I had had so little sleep last week when I fell, so I will blame it on that.

  9. I hope you're feeling better soon, Kay! I never heard the word "goozle" before. Dad swore by drinking a good slug of whiskey and sweating a cold out. I've never followed his "prescription," but I'm enjoying yours. My great grandmother swore by boiled onions in sugary water. That was ghastly, and just the thought of it would scare a cold out of you. Ginger in warm milk was another of her favorites. Take care!

    1. My Dad was also a big believer in onions, he thought they were great for you! Of course, the best ones were the ones straight from his garden. "Goozle", just one of the many words from my childhood that I never hear anymore.

  10. I do worry about you, Kay, and hope you are feeling better now.
Honey and lemon in hot water are a "classic" here, too, for when one is not well and needs to warm up.
I have read somewhere that the boiling water kills the vitamin C in the lemon juice, so maybe it is better to let the water cool off for a minute or two before pouring it into the mug.

    1. Thank you, Meike! I am better now. I had to smile when I read your comment here. Do you know, I remember my Dad telling me to let the water cool a little before pouring it over the lemon juice! Did I remember that? No! Not until what you wrote here. See, there is a lot of wisdom in things that he did, he might not have known WHY he did things, but I have found that great many of those things were the best ways.
I love lemons, and my Dad did too!

  11. I suck on Hall's honey lemon cough drops to ease my cough. It also has menthol in it. Very good for the throat and chest.

    1. I bought cough drops called "lockets" in England...it said it had soothing honey and clearing menthol! I was grateful for them.

  12. I am a great believer in honey and lemon for sore throats and colds. And when there are no lemons, I put the honey in any tea I have: camomile, peppermint etc. The old ways are often the best ones!

    1. My Daddy would have his honey lemon drink with whisky and then, he liked to stir it up with a peppermint stick if he had one!
      Sounds magical to me!

  14. I don't like whisky and usually have mine with some cold remedy added. Hope you're better soon. I've been under the weather too and, for once, trying to rest to get better. Not sure that's entirely helpful. Seems to take its time whatever you do.

    1. Takes longer to heal now...trouble is, I am not the most patient person in the world! What an old grouch I am, AND a big baby at the same time! Oh well, just try to stay healthy so I can live with myself, I guess!
