And forget about that politician saying that Americans are "soft" because many schools and businesses were closed. I would like to see him standing in sub-zero weather waiting for a school bus before sunrise! Okay...back to telling you about this movie...
"Arctic" will be released on Feb. 1st in theaters and it is being called one of the best survival movies of all time. Now, I do enjoy these kind of films, as you know, although, I prefer that they be based on a true story and as far as I can tell, this is fictional. Still, it looks good, don't you think? I admire the people who can take stock of their situation and survive no matter what. How do you think you would fare in a survival kind of situation? I hope I never have to find out but I suspect that I would be a blubbering mess.
I only watched a bit of that trailer...you may watch it all, of course, but sometimes, I think it might spoil it a bit if TOO much is revealed. By the way, "Arctic" received a 10 minute standing ovation at the premiere at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.
In Georgia, we have NOT had any snow. (The photo above is from January of last year.) To be honest, I think that I am old enough to like snow only in pictures or on Christmas cards...you can HAVE it!
Hope you are all doing well, my friends! Take care.
I feel like we're surviving the Arctic here! It's dang cold outside but this should pass by the weekend. That always makes it easier to get through it knowing there's end in sight. It also makes one very happy for Spring!
ReplyDeleteWe just took photos of the daffodils blooming at the Monastery today! Such a welcome sight. x
DeleteWe have had little snow this time. Our high temperature today was one degree. Last night we were about twenty below. Tomorrow is supposed to be eighteen above. I could probably survive but with no indoor toilet why bother?
ReplyDeleteYour cold is something hard for me to comprehend. Let's hope this isn't something that happens every winter! No indoor toilet? What?!
DeleteI didn't make it clear. I meant I could survive a major catastrophe. The thing is I lived much of my early life with no indoor toilet and I don't want to ever do that again.
DeleteOh I see! And I remember my Great aunt did not have indoor plumbing and when I stayed with her as a little girl, it was fine with me...but I was only there for a week and it was summer! Would NOT have wanted to go to the outhouse in the winter!
DeleteWe are SOOO cold here- MINUS 50° and schools and stores closed down for today and tomorrow. Snow packed down and the roadways are ice covered now. Awful! I am anxious to see that movie. I love survival type movies, too. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteI am hoping by now that you have warmed up somewhat. Today (Sunday-Feb. 3) it was shirt sleeve weather as we walked with bright blue skies. I wonder if that film will be good, sometimes, the critics like movies better than I do! xx
DeleteOh, My Rare One will want to see this movie. She LOVES survival films. I do not, but I'm sure I'll be dragged along to see it. Just like I drag her along to see superhero movies, which she doesn't like.
ReplyDeleteHa! That is like Richard and myself, he likes scary movies but I will only watch them with him because he likes them!
DeleteSomehow i don't see myself surviving long in such a situation, although watching others do it would be adventurous and fascinating.
ReplyDeleteI hope I will always be around sensible, intelligent people. It has worked in my life so far!!
DeleteProbably not a film I am going to watch :-)
ReplyDeleteBut I did watch a documentary about a young Swiss man who decided to see whether he would be able to survive all on his own for 300 days on a lone island in the pacific.
You can read about Xavier Rosset and his adventures here.
I just looked him up...fascinating! He only had a machete and a Swiss knife, that tickles me...of course, it would be a Swiss army knife!! Thanks for telling me!
DeleteArctic could be an interesting film, but then again, maybe too stressful! Living in a hot climate, I have always enjoyed the idea of snow, and the occasional glimpse of it on a mountain. But I too think I'm over it, after a few weeks in Canada last year when there was also one of those Polar vortex events. Don't know how my daughter can stand living there :)
ReplyDeleteI know! I am the same, I can't stand to think of cold like that! Hope it's not too hot for you where you live just now. Take care. xx
DeleteThat film is one I'll skip. Here I'm only trying to think spring and warmer weather. So far, anyway, I'm a survivor of winter 2019 in Ohio.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a t shirt idea..."Survivor of Winter 2019-OHIO".
DeleteMake some money! :-)
Boo to snow here.
ReplyDeleteI know, we don't want it, do we?
DeleteI do prefer extreme cold to extreme heat ( up to a point) as long as the heat is working in my home... One of my sils had her heat stop the first day of the polar vortex. Houses cool down slowly, but they were planning to go to a motel if it were not fixed in time. But it was. Their emergency was caused by a gas main break and affected several streets in her neighborhood. It is getting warmer for the next several days and I'm wondering how much snow will melt.
ReplyDeleteCold like that described to me just sounds so dangerous. I hope it is not something that will happen every winter.
DeleteI like snow if it doesn't force you to be stuck inside the house for a long time.
ReplyDeleteHere in the south, we have problems with snow and ice, so I hope we don't get any.
DeleteOne annoying thing about some trailers promoting a good film is that they tell half the story in the trailer or give the ending away. Lost count of the number of times that happens. Looks a good picture.
ReplyDeleteI know...that is why I told folks I only watched a bit of that trailer!! I love movies, I guess you can tell!
DeleteRight you are about the jerk who acted like closing schools and businesses was the wrong call. People dye in these temperatures, people fall on the ice and snow and have injuries. I hate winter. We were set to have some furniture moved into an assisted living center for my 92 soon to be 93 year old father, and the delivery was cancelled......I thought that was a smart move. Roads were terrible.
ReplyDeleteI wondered if anyone else noticed that guy on the news, what kind of folks do we have in political office these days...gee whiz.
DeleteAnyway, you have to make wise decisions when it comes to safety!
Kay your blog is like mine with name and url, not just google option because you have the drop down box to click under comments for choices. Sorry to hear you're going through the same thing with your Dad. It truly isn't easy. Will leave you my email, might be nice to compare notes and try and keep each other upbeat. sandycrochet@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sandy. I am never sure these days with the changes with blogger. I hate to think that I am causing trouble to anyone trying to leave me comments.
DeleteBless you for leaving me your email, I will write to you. Thank you.
No snow or ice over here where I live in Hawaii.
ReplyDeleteLovely Hawaii...Aloha!
DeleteOh, a ten minute standing ovation at Cannes sounds promising!
ReplyDeleteJenny, how lovely to see your comment. That ten minute standing ovation makes me think...I wonder how often that happens? I mean how often the ovation happens not that I never thnk!LOL!
