The Queen's Christmas Message 2015

According to the BBC, the episode of "Downton Abbey" beat the infamous Christmas episode of "Eastenders".   Most Americans know of "Downton Abbey" but I don't think too many know of the soap opera, "Eastenders".  (I have watched "Eastenders" for many years.  I have fond memories of watching the very first episode from 1985, I believe!)  Now, even though those two shows were watched by millions, THE most viewed TV program was...wait for it...the Queen's Speech on Christmas Day!

Joy of joys, I was able to find it on YouTube and the speech  is wonderful, truly it is! From "God Save the Queen" at the beginning to the boy's choir singing, "Away In A Manger" at the very end, this is most certainly worth 9 minutes of your time!   My son is a film major and I dearly would like to know what he thinks of this. I think it is perfect from start to finish.
You know I have it here for you!

AND by the way, the Queen DID say at the end of her speech..."I wish you a very HAPPY Christmas".  Just saying!  :-)

Oh, I just thought of this...any of my friends who are in the UK are saying to themselves, "WE have seen  and listened to this already"!  Okay, maybe so, but I hope you appreciate this speech!

Hey, where did Christmas go? It is New Year's Eve already! Happy New Year , everyone! I will try to stay inside myself, there are too many nutters out there shooting off their guns! (They are told not to do this but alas, they do it anyway.)
And if the Queen should happen upon my blog, Happy 2016, your majesty. You know I know all the words to "God Save The Queen" but I am also an American, so I also sing that tune with "My Country Tis of Thee".   You are such a gracious, noble Queen, I know that is okay with you, right?
Love and light!

  2. Thank you for posting this. It was lovely to look at and listen to.

I will have to see if Eastenders is on Netflix. We love Downton Abbey and Call the Midwife.

And I didn't say but I should have told you, Eastenders has gone into a very strange way in the past few years and I don't watch it any more. (If you notice, I call the Christmas episode "infamous" because someone would almost always get killed!)

  7. I introduced an American to Eastenders recently. They're a fan of the macabre and I told them about how it's a Christmas tradition on that show to kill a character off over Christmas. Happy new year to you too.

    1. Eastenders has gone off into a direction that makes it a bit unpleasant to watch, so I have gone off of it. Gee, I can get depressed all by myself, don't need all their bad stories!! Those Christmas shows, honestly, if I lived in Albert Square, I would stay inside until about Jan. 15th!! HA!
      Happy New Year!

  11. Very nice post, Kay, especially the close-up of the Cadbury's Christmas tray! Some years ago, I got just such a tray in my Christmas parcel from Yorkshire. You know it didn't last very long with me, but I have kept the tin and use it for home-baked cupcakes now when I make a batch and take it to someone's party.

    1. I love these tins! We have several that we use. I keep Richard's Miracle cookies (you know the ones!!) in one of them, he keeps the little cakes he makes in another one..and I keep several that I use to also take cookies to other people! SOMETIMES, I will let people keep the tins IF they promise to re use them and not throw them away! I love anything by CADBURY'S!!

  12. The Queen's Christmas Speech gets broadcast every year in Canada too. When I was a kid, we watched it faithfully every year. Of course, we only got one TV channel (the CBC) so it was easy to do, LOL!

Happy New Year, Kay -- may 2016 be a wonderful year for you and your family!

  13. Not listened to a Queen's speech in 30 years (still didn't :o)
Enjoyed "The Queen." film. Never watch Eastenders either(too much fighting and grumbling every week.Full of poor people constantly moaning about life and each other :o)
P.S. The Queen's estates and palaces were quick to adopt zero hours contracts for workers. Earned her a new fortune last few years.
    Yours,
    Henry Humbug.
Happy New Year. Best Wishes for 2016.

    1. If you listen to the Queen on this post, I won't tell anyone, I promise! It's a very good speech, I wouldn't have it on here if it wasn't.
And I am in TOTAL agreement about Eastenders! I didn't say in my post (but I should have, I know) but I have stopped watching it as the story lines just got so crazy and depressing, that I just couldn't take it anymore!
Henry Humbug, you must be related to me...I have been called Debbie Downer sometimes!! HA!
      Happy 2016!!
