Stone Mountain- In the RAIN

Richard and I love to climb Stone Mountain.  We have always been very lucky with the weather.  One cloudy day at the end of August, we had ALMOST reached the top and it began to rain.  It rained and it rained and it rained! There were just a few crazy nutcases brave souls who were on top of the mountain.  And because it was morning, we had to wait a few minutes until the Stone Mountain employees opened the building at the top of the mountain!  Can you see me in the photo below?  The lift was not operating due to the winds and this building
 is usually full of people!

The Yellow Daisies were at their peak on top of the mountain, we could only see them from the building. (We saw some on the climb up, but no time to linger over them, we were trying to make the top of the mountain!)

The wind died down enough that they brought us down in the skylift. The water cascading off Stone Mountain was magnificent!  It might be hard to get a sense of it from the photo but it was like a waterfall and it was beautiful.

Look at that photo above!  That is our lonely car in the parking lot!  This lot is usually packed with cars and they often close it at the weekend!

Now you have been with us to Stone Mountain in the rain...and you didn't even get wet!
(Don't worry, we got wet enough for all of you!)

We have a lot of sunshine in Georgia but we also have our share of rain.  And of course, you know this reminds me of a song.  Doesn't everything?

  1. Wow---looks like you had the place all to yourself. That is kind of nice, sometimes! You got some great pictures, and I love the "waterfall"...it's lovely. xo Diana

    1. It was nice to have it almost to ourselves! And it is always beautiful in every season and in every weather. I have seen photos of Stone Mountain, Arabia Mountain AND Panola Mountain in the SNOW...hope to see that one day! :-)

  2. It's wonderful to see a place that is familiar to us in a different season or at different weather, or a different setting, such as when usually it is full of people and then you get to be there on your own. This was spectacular, and I can imagine the water cascading off the mountain. it's a pity you couldn't hear the sound of it while coming down on the lift.

    1. I am laughing reading your last sentence! Here is the reason: Richard made a video of the cascading water but I didn't know he was making a video! I think all you can hear is me exclaiming over the beauty of it! (In my defense, I was right next to the camera!) I will ask Richard if he would give me permission to put it on our YouTube channel and share it with you...but you will have to turn the sound down because of me! Look out for it!

    1. It really does, doesn't it? Only thing, there were two people there who had never seen it before. One was from Southern California! HA! Anyway, he had been told about the great views from the top of Stone Mountain! On a clear day, you can see forever! (Another song, of course!)

    1. Thank you, Patricia! It IS beautiful, we love it!
I didn't say how much we enjoyed it and we certainly did but we DID get wet. Funny thing, I had an umbrella but it was so very windy that it didn't help very much!

  5. Whether we like it not, rain is needed and sometimes can be a beautiful and welcome sight.

And if only you could see the waterfall from the sky lift! Richard made a video of it, look out for that on a future post! xx

  6. Kay, as many times as I've been to Stone Mountain, since I was young, I don't believe it ever rained when we were there. I love to go there during Christmas and visit the Village.

    1. Richard and I have seen it in the rain but not in a rainstorm like this one, with high winds and the mountain itself completely covered in cloud. It was extraordinarily beautiful.

  7. Sometimes it's nice to get a popular location all to yourself in dramatic conditions. Sadly, that's our normal weather, year round, every second day here :o(
