Music And Beer-MmmHops!

Music and beer...it never occurred to me how many musicians might have something to do with the craft beer industry.  My son has written a great article on the subject in the Beer Connoisseur Magazine, "Best Beer and Music Collaborations".  You may read it here!  (If there is one thing I know, I simply cannot spell "connoisseur". I have to look it up every time!)

Well done, Christopher, keep up the good work!

Remember the Hanson Brothers?  Eventually, they just called themselves "Hanson".  They were a boy band from the late 90's from Tulsa,  Oklahoma and their big hit was "MmmBop".   In 2013, not only did they release a new album, but they also launched their IPA beer, "MmmHops".  (IPA means India Pale Ale...I didn't know what it meant either, I had to look it up!)   10 percent of the sales from their beer goes towards building water wells in Africa. I don't know about you, but I really like that a lot.

And I see that one of the brothers, Taylor, married Natalie Bryant from Georgia in 2002. They were married at one of my favorite spots in Georgia- Callaway Gardens in the Ida Cason Chapel. You know me, I will find either a Georgia connection or an English one!

  1. Beer is not really "my cup of tea", neither as a topic nor as a drink, but I always find your posts interesting, no matter what you write about.
I can't remember having read about Callaway Gardens on your blog (or anywhere else) before; it looks a wonderful place and I'd like to see more of it.

    1. I am not a beer drinker either, but I found this interesting anyway!
Callaway Gardens is a lovely spot, and look out for a post about it, next month, hopefully!

  2. Sad to admit that I'm really out of it with the current music scene. My kids are always telling me that I haven't evolved with the times. Gee... Did I say the same thing to my parents?

    1. I am afraid that I am just not up with all the current trends. And don't even get me started on the music! Of course, I don't mind, most of it I just don't want to know! xx

  3. Hey, I have another music/beer collaboration for Christopher: Iron Maiden worked with Robinsons Brewery in Stockport to create Trooper, named after their album. I went on a tour of the brewery last year with a group of friends. They all took part in the tasting session at the end and I had tea! Beer is horrible. x

    1. Oh yes, I think I remember, you did a post about it, right? I am with you with the tea! LOL.

  4. That little church in Calloway Gardens - just beautiful - sits so peacefully by the lake. We were there some years ago - the stained glass window was magic - the sun pouring through made the colours so bright. I seem to remember I could hear bells in the distance too - am I right. Good to hear that Christopher is doing so well. x

    1. Oh! You love Callaway Gardens too! Yes, the stained glass looks lovely with the sun. Not sure about the bells, I am hoping to go there next month, so I will let you know!
Thanks for sharing my joy over C's job! xx

  5. Yes, i've heard of Hanson, but not of the beer. Not being a drinker, i don't keep up with craft beers, but my Sweetie likes one on occasion.

Congratulations to Christopher for his article!

    1. I always thought that the Hanson brothers were very talented, NICE guys. Happy to see that they are doing well, all married with children and having their own beer company!
I hope that C. will see these comments and feel warmed by the well wishes!

  6. Can't say I've ever heard of Hanson, but of course I've heard of IPA. I believe India Pale Ale was specifically brewed for the troops in the old days of Empire, because 'normal' beer didn't travel well. Don't quote me though. I can particularly recommend Green King IPA. All power to your son's writing!

    1. I am not much of a drinker so I really don't know much about what my son had written about! However, I do remember Hanson, so I thought I would mention them and connect it to my son's article. C. will read your comment here, so I thank you for that recommendation! :-)

  7. I am not a beer fan in general, though the beer in Germany has got me slowly changing my mind :)

    1. Oh! I meant to ask you, do you know Meike's blog? She is the first one above who commented...her blog is From My Mental Library. She is also in Germany! You MUST check out her blog!

  8. The Hanson Brothers are no longer a group. They have gone on to be single performers. There seem to be some hard feelings but so far the gentlemen in them has prevailed.

    1. I know that they have gone on to other things, but then, why not? They performed for...I think it was for 21 years together! They seem to be really nice guys to me. Once again, I don't care how smart you are or how talented, just how nice. That's it.

  9. Hanson, ha, I really liked MMMBop back in the day and I had no idea they had a beer now. Cute name!

    1. Hey Audrey! I remember seeing them in interviews and being treated as if they didn't have a brain between the three of them. That must be what it is like if you are a beautiful woman, I WOULDN"T know! HA!
That name made me chuckle but then, I think most everything is funny! xx

And now you have heard of them! They have great voices and they sound really good together. I love to hear brothers harmonize together, reminds me of The Beach Boys, who I love.

  11. I don't remember Hanson as a musical group, but I do know India Pale Ale from my son who brewed his own beer for a time. He brewed the beer for his sister Emily's wedding and considered it a great challenge because her husband is from Munich. Everyone liked it! It was a hefe weizen.

    1. Wow, that must have been a fun wedding! What a special thing, to have your brother's brewed beer for your wedding, lucky girl!

  12. I remember Hanson, but I didn't have any of their music. Actually, they toured here Down Under in mid-2014, performing at small concert venues (but all booked out with extra seating arranged at some, apparently); and they appeared on one of the TV morning shows, which I happened to see...and I liked what they did during their segment, much to my surprise as I'd never been into their music previously, thinking they were more for the young kids...but I was duly impressed.

    1. Like you, I saw them interviewed on TV during the time of their great success with Mmmbop and was impressed by their manners and their humility. If you go to the end of that clip, you can click on another one of them singing "Ain't No Sunshine", I really liked that one!
