The Trails At Panola Mountain

Crazy lady messing up Richard's photo again!

We hope to climb Panola Mountain this Saturday. (It is not a really a mountain but a monadnock like Arabia Mountain and Stone Mountain.)  Panola Mountain is a National Landmark. It is a protected area and you are only allowed on the mountain trail accompanied by a guide. Dogs and bikes are not allowed on the trails so as to protect the plant life. You may read about it here. There are trails around the mountain and we very much enjoyed them on November 25th.   The rock outcrop trail passes through some fantastic hardwoods and the sound of the leaves falling as we walked made this a very pleasant walk indeed.  It was magical. Once you pass the trees, they come out upon an outcrop overlooking a mass of granite, and in the distance you can see one of our favorite places that we love to visit...

Stone Mountain!  It made us so happy to see Stone Mountain! And once we walked these trails, we got in the car and drove a few miles down Alexander Lake Road and went to...Alexander Lake! That is the lake that Richard has in my header photo.  The short drive was also very nice, with some beautiful color on the trees.  After Saturday, we should have some more photos of Panola Mountain itself!  Hope you liked this autumnal walk with us.

  8. These are very lovely photographs! It's been a long time since my husband and I have been on a nature walk. I'll be glad when I'm feeling better, so I can enjoy nature walks again. They are very therapeutic. Sounds like you and your husband had a wonderful day. :)

    1. Dear Mara,
I really hope that you will be better very soon and able to go on beautiful walks. In the meantime, you are always welcome to come on our "walks". In fact, you are very welcome to go back on my blog and see all the posts on Arabia Mountain and Stone Mountain. The yellow daisies in September were astounding!
We will climb Panola Mountain tomorrow!
God bless you and keep you.
      Love,
KAY So happy you are still blogging! :-)

  11. Well, i think the "not at all crazy" lady just adds a splash of color!;)

Very nice photos, you make me wish to live near mountains (or monadnock, if you prefer). Everything here is below sea level and flat as a pancake.

    1. HAHA, Mimi! I am one colorful character!
The monadnocks really do rise suddenly up from a landscape that is just gently rolling hills. This means, that not too many people really even know that these exist! They have heard of them, but have never seen them, even people who have lived in this county for all their lives.

    1. Kay, don't let these spam comments discourage you - I get plenty of that, but they all arrive under "spam", and I simply delete them.

    2. Meike, you are reading my mind! Honestly, I have never had anything like this. It must be my Christmas cartoon & poem post from last year, it is now over 1200 views!

  15. What beautiful colors and leaves. Panola Mountain ~ I have not heard of that place before but I love seeing Stone Mountain in the distance! We've been insanely busy shopping for birthday, Hanukkah, and Christmas presents today. Ugh, it's exhausting!

  16. Hahaha...well, that 'crazy lady' actually adds interest to the photos. When you add a person to images, they are that much more appealing.

Lovely photos, Kay. And I love that header. Such a gorgeous lake. It must be so nice to hang around there.

    1. Oh, yes, I know they tell you to have a person in a photo, it's just better if that person is not ME!
And that lake! I was so happy to see that Richard got the clouds so perfectly reflected in the lake. It was a lovely day.

  17. I agree with Martha that people in photos can add interest. I love to see where friends in Blogland live through their eyes and its a bonus when it's as beautiful as where you are.

    1. I still need to post the photos from Nov. 18th from Arabia Mountain, I just looked at them and the color! It is a beautiful place for those who take the time to really see it.
And if you want to see some good photos, check out Martha's blog. She is from Canada and she lives in a gorgeous area and is a great photographer!
