"I'VE BEEN TO LONDON TO SEE THE QUEEN"

Prince Charles is saying, "Could it be them, Mummy?"  Camilla and Kate and  Harry are all peering ahead to see if they can catch a glimpse of the happy couple celebrating their 29th wedding anniversary.  Don't worry, Royal Family, Kay and Richard visited England just for you!
The Queen wore the most beautiful clothes during the Diamond Jubilee celebrations but did anyone else notice that this hat, at a certain angle, looked as if it had a smiley face on it?  (And someone decided to increase the volume on the TV as I snapped this photo, otherwise, you might have thought I was on the boat with the Royal Family!)
The flotilla was amazing, didn't you think so too?  I loved these singers in this cold weather with rain pouring down their faces.  This brought a tear to my eye I am not ashamed to tell you!

"I've been to London to see the Queen"...that was my one and only line in our fourth grade play when I played Puss In Boots.  (I think it was because I wore my little white go-go boots so much, the teacher felt like she had to give me that part.)  As it turned out, I was not able to deliver the line, as my mother decided we just had to visit my grandfather that weekend and I missed this important play! ("You only have one line, it's not as if it is very important".)  The sad thing about it, the teacher blamed me for not showing up for the play and never once said anything to my mother.
Anyway, where was I before I started telling you about my wonderful childhood?  Oh yes, this great flotilla ...  I thought all the boats were a beautiful sight  and I would have loved to have been in London to see them, but even on TV, they made a fantastic impression.   (And I was closer to the Thames in Eastbourne, than I would have been in Georgia!)

  1. So happy you were here...it was all top-drawer wasn't it? I think it was even Britisher with the rain! Tee hee!

    1. Hey Sarah-Jane!
It was wonderful to be in England during the Jubilee!
I do wish the rain could have held off for the flotilla and especially for all the street parties planned, I saw photos of people with plates of food just soaking wet!

  2. While all this happened, RJ and I were at Lake Garda, hiking, dancing, eating and generally enjoying ourselves.
I guess I would have watched some of it on TV had I been at home, but as it were, I must admit I had other things on my mind :-)

Sorry to hear about you having missed that play at school - how unusual, though; whenever anything like that was on our schedules at school, our parents made sure they were there to watch as well.

    1. Lake Garda looks so nice, I would not have watched TV either!
I cannot remember a single thing that either of my parents came to see at my school. They both worked and I had four siblings, so they were busy. It didn't surprise me that my mother took me out of town during the play, but I still think it unfair for the teacher to scold me in front of the class!
My single line for the play came to me as I was watching the Queen on TV!

  3. You must have felt as if you were there! I too, only had one line in the school play! How unfair of the teacher to simply blame you for being absent. Isn't it funny how we always remember these childhood incidences?

    1. The entire fourth grade was in this play so a lot of kids played bushes or trees or rocks. I was lucky to have a line (which was one of the things the teacher said to me!) Oh well, it didn't bother me that much, I had the experience of being with my friends and praticing the play. I like to remember the good side of things, really. This just started my dislike of bad teachers!

  4. Ha ha, I hadn't noticed the smiley face! I thought the singers were marvellous, really giving it their all, and as you say, soaked through.

    1. Dear Tracey,
That outfit was perfect, was it not? I loved that she chose that color, it would have made it easier for people to see her, very thoughtful. I am so bad for seeing the smiley face but perhaps that too was good for the day!
And yes, those singers, I wish they had had more of them on TV. Did you know they sang one of the songs from James Bond as they passed the MI5 building? Brilliant!

    1. Yes,I could have become an Oscar winning actress and then could have met the Queen and told her my first acting line! As it is, she will just have to read my blog...she might not like me saying she had a smiley face hat though...if you read this, Your Majesty, I meant no offense, Ma'am. You know I love you.

  6. Oh, yes, I see that smiley face! I'm glad you had such a lovely time. I bet you were the best couple there!

I'm sorry that you missed that play. That must have been heartbreaking. We never do forget moments like that, do we?

    1. Aren't I silly to see faces everywhere? I need help, I think.
Well, I can't remember being too upset about it. Just remembered that I felt like I let everyone down, since I was the ONLY ONE who didn't make it to the play, even though I had no choice about it. You can bet that I NEVER missed anything that my son did in school!

  7. I never noticed that! Wow! How funny.
Thanks for pointing that out Kay.
I hope you are well, thanks so much for the kind comments on SIBOL. We certainly have been busy one way or another.

The Diamond Jubilee was just such a wonderful day, although I thought the BBC coverage wasn't too good, kept going over to SKY. Everyone looked so happy and it was a brilliant day.,
    Thank you
    Love Suex

  9. Haha, there IS a happy face there! And if anyone was going to notice it, it would have to be you (seconded by myself :) I thought the Queen looked simply wonderful during the entire Jubilee. That teacher was ridiculous in blaming you for your absence!

  10. For a minute I thought you'd been to the regatta and taken those shots. I was thinking "I wonder how she got such a good position" We attended the regatta but only got a squint view. Still, it was fun being there and being part of it.
I am so glad you have enjoyed your latest trip to England, Kay!

    1. Dear Jenny,
I was a bit tickled at how these photos came out from the TV screen myself!
We loved our time in England...we wanted to spend all our time on the seafront in Eastbourne!

    1. Dear Mimi,
It was great fun to sing "God Save The Queen" with a big crowd in Eastbourne and to see them light the beacon there. I found a clip from Youtube and will show that on my next post!

  12. How clever of you to notice the smiley face. I watched TV solidly for three days during the Jubilee and loved every minute and did not miss a thing - except the smiley face!

The singers were magnificent - I thought I was going to burst with pride when they sang Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory. It is not often that we can feel like that.

    So glad you enjoyed it.

    1. Dear Pat,
I am silly with seeing faces everywhere. I don't know why I do, I just do.
And like you, those singers just thrilled me!!! I wish we could have heard more of them, and less of the "talking heads", the people who were the commentators!
And yes, I enjoyed it very much indeed!

  13. I saw it!! They were showing a re-run of highlights of the Pageant yesterday and I saw the smiley face. You are quite right - it is a smiley face.
