I have said for a long time that I hoped that America could copy the idea of the Red Nose Day from England and today I read that there will be a Red Nose Day in the USA on May 21st of this year! The first Red Nose Day was in 1988 (although the charity COMIC RELIEF was founded 30 years ago, in 1985.) It was started by Richard Curtis and Lenny Henry. Lenny Henry you might know as an actor and very funny comedian. Richard Curtis...you should know his name too if you like British comedies! He is the writing talent behind the movies, "Four Weddings and a Funeral", "Love Actually", "Bridget Jones' Diary", "Notting Hill" and the TV comedies, 'Black Adder", "Mr. Bean" and" The Vicar of Dibley". So funny!
You may read more about Red Nose Day at this link just here. Apparently, they will have more on that link in early April so that you may download a fundraising kit. Remember it!
I love it when the world listens to me even if it takes years! HA! I'm such a comedian!
Not a red nose but red diamorpha at Arabia Mountain from March 2014. |
You should be so proud. You have begun a holiday.
ReplyDeleteYes, I am sure it is all down to me! HA!
DeleteActually, it was Helen Fielding who wrote the Bridget Jones books :-)
ReplyDeleteAs far as I know, there isn't a Red Nose Day (or anything similar) in Germany. Whether that is because we are just a bunch of fun-loving clowns all the time anyway, or because we are way too serious and narrow-minded - I leave that up to you to decide, he he (Just look at the corners of the mouth of our chancellor, Frau Merkel. They are turned down by default. When my Dad looks grumpy, my Mum says to him "Don't make your Merkel-mouth.")
Maybe there will be a Kay-Day one day!
Richard Curtis was the screenwriter for Bridget Jones Diary -the film. xx
DeleteHelen Fielding wrote the book, of course. On the film, Richard Curtis is listed as a co-writer for the screenplay, so I think the list should stand as I have it. (I carefully worded it "writing talent" but no one noticed.) Also, they must be friends, it was Helen Fielding who suggested a funeral for "Four Weddings And A Funeral"! Perhaps he should list her as a co-writer for that movie!
DeleteA Kay Day, that would be too boring for words! :-)
After all the cold weather this winter,we all may or should have red noses. Will have to check out the link to see what it is all about since I haven't heard of red nose day.
ReplyDeleteI wonder where the money will be going to in the American version. There are a number of charities there that could use it though. I'm sure they'll find a good use. I had no idea Lenny Henry had been going for that long. It's kinda a shame a lot of people will probably just remember him from the Premier Inn ads.
ReplyDeleteYes, I recently saw photos of Tom Hiddleston wearing this year's Red Nose Day t-shirt. It featured Baldrick's quotation "I have a cunning plan" from the Blackadder series.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad they're starting it over here too.
ReplyDeleteWell look at you, such a powerful influence with your great blog :)
ReplyDeleteYou know, I've never even heard of this. I'm going to have to read up on it.
What good news! Thank you so much for campaigning for it!
ReplyDeleteWe all listen to you, mind you it is true you are easily heard!
ReplyDeleteI love Red Nose Day and seeing everyone with big smiles on their faces. The day seems to bring people together more than any other charitable day. Seeing people 'do something funny for money' is just great along with all the stars that give up their time to either visit these awfully needed places or just making a joke of themselves. I love it and hope that America fully embraces it :o)
ReplyDeleteThat is VERY cool and it's on my parents' anniversary no less! Richard Curtis ~ he made some of my favorite movies of all time. Hard to imagine there are people who don't know him. Ha!
ReplyDeleteI am extremely impressed along with your writing abilities, Thanks for this great share.
