Cherry Blossom Time!

Hey! It's time for the cherry blossoms in Rockdale County!  I wrote about them two years ago.  You may read that post just here.  If you don't have time to go and read that very L-O-N-G post, I will tell you that in the early 1980's, we had the Japanese company, Maxell here in this county, and the President of the company, Hideo Ogino, planted Yoshino cherry trees in front of the Maxell plant. (The property now is owned by the county and is a park with walking trails.)  In honor of this, we have had a Cherry Blossom Festival here since that time, and they have always sold cherry trees at a low cost. Because of that, there are cherry trees all over the county and this week, THEY ARE IN FULL BLOOM!  Sorry, but that deserves capitals...truly, it does.  My husband and I are thrilled with them every year but this year, for the first time, we have seen lots of people taking photos in front of the cherry tree blossoms.  Just wondering, could they all be reading my blog?  Hope so!

From a distance, you might think that the blooms are white, but they are a very pale pink.  Just gorgeous against a blue sky!

And in case you are wondering, I took the last two photos! I like to wait until Richard closes his eyes, he looks more relaxed that way! Have a relaxing, blue-sky, cherry blossoming day! (If it is not Spring for you yet, just hang in there.)

  1. That's gorgeous. The only problem with cherry blossom seems to be that it fades so quickly; but what a picture when it's out. And the variety you have is a wonderful shade.

    1. The cherry blossoms don't last long, but they come just after the Bradford pear blossoms and just before the dogwood blossoms, so that is about four weeks of just those three kinds of trees! And we have so many more!

  2. They are a beautiful sight for sure. I am trying to be patient as nothing has had a chance to bloom here. It's been to cold but thankfully the snow is gone.

  3. A sure sign of spring. I was going to take my mother to Washington DC to see the cherry blossoms. Unfortunately she died in January that year. She would have loved your pitures.

    1. Oh, I am sorry for your loss. These cherry trees are just the same kind as the ones in Washington, D.C. I would love to see them there too. I have never been to DC. Maybe one day!

    1. Well spotted, my friend! It was wonderful to walk under those magnificent blossoms! Every now and then, I would glance up and some of the petals would brush past my face...heavenly!

  6. Dear Kay, I remember your first post about the cherry trees very well - is it really 2 years ago?
The pictures are wonderful, and you know what, I love the last one especially because Richard's eyes are closed. This lends such a "dreamy" quality to the whole scene, which really is like something out of a beautiful tree! And of course he wore this colour because it goes so well with the pale pink of the blossoms :-)

The cherry tree in front of my window will need some more weeks before I have that wonderful white cloud of blossoms there (they really are white). But yesterday, I have spotted the first magnolia trees starting to bloom!

    1. Thank you for saying you like that photo of Richard! I think he thought I was a bit silly to put a photo of him on here with his eyes closed but I also thought it went with the post too! And his shirt! HA! Look at that photo on the side of Richard & Christopher and you will see that it is the same shirt, and he has his arms folded in the same exact way.
Looking forward to your white cloud of blossoms outside your window!

  8. How beautiful the trees are! It's spring here, too, but i don't know of any cherry trees around. Plums and citrus, and azaleas and dogwoods and tulip trees we have in abundance. Then there's the sweet olive. How i wish i could bottle that scent!

    Happy Spring!

    1. We didn't have any cherry trees here either until we had that gift of trees from Maxell. He was like Johnny Appleseed, and isn't that a nice thing!
Sweet olive tree, I don't know that tree but it sounds wonderful. xx

  9. Those are so beautiful. I love spring. Our redbud trees are in bloom, finally, and yesterday I saw the first bluebonnets along the highway. I think we will have a banner crop of wildflowers this year - have had lots of rain. And we can thank Lady Bird Johnson for that. It was her passion. Thanks for sharing the story about the cherry blossom and also the pics. Happy spring!

Bluebonnets! I envy you having those wildflowers. I have only seen photos of them.
Lady Bird Johnson! I LOVE her! I have written about her before! If you look at the bottom of my blog, you will see a photo of her. She is one of my HEROES!
      Happy Spring to you too!

    1. Isn't it wonderful to know that just one person gave these trees and started people buying more cherry trees and now we have all these blossoms in the Spring?

    2. My mom used to always say that standing under the blossoms of a cherry tree makes everyone look more beautiful. Richard is already a handsome man, but see how the blossoms make him beautiful too? :-)

  15. One of my favourite flowering trees. You know springtime has really arrived. Another full month before ours start to blossom though.
