George Ezra/Pileated Woodpecker/40 Degree Drop

We were at Stone Mountain at the end of February last year and Richard was able to get a quick photo of the pileated woodpecker.  The bird was high in the tree but you can still see how big it is! Let's see a weasel try to piggyback on this bird!

We watched the Brit Awards on TV recently and I heard a singer that I have never heard before. This young man from England reminds me of Slim Whitman...you know, the singer who had his songs on the movie,"Mars Attacks"...the songs that made the aliens' heads explode.   I hope that George Ezra could read my blog and tell me if he thinks so too! He doesn't sound just like him, it's just that I am REMINDED of Slim Whitman, I suppose because they both use falsetto, and not too many singers use that range.  I find his songs quite catchy myself.  (For both singers, actually.)  Poor guy,  I am so hopelessly out of it these days, I hope that I don't jinx him.
(Be funny if George Ezra's next song is 40 Degree Drop or Pileated Woodpecker, wouldn't it?)

Hey! You will never believe this but yesterday when I came home from work, the gauge in my car said that the outside temperature was 83 degrees.  Today, when I came home at the same time of day, the gauge was at 42 degrees. It was correct too. This has been one crazy winter!
Oh! And I am so tired that I just had to ask Richard to find the apostrophe for me on the keyboard. I think I need a break!
I just sent my son a one word text...COLD.  I am a woman of few words.  SOMETIMES! HA!

We also have a red headed woodpecker and a red bellied woodpecker. I know them all!

  1. That really is one big woodpecker. Damn I still love Woody the Woodpecker, even if he did give me many incorrect assumptions about woodpeckers.

    1. Yes, I remember Woody Woodpecker too! Real birds are more interesting though, just get out there and look for them! You will be another David Atttenborough before you know it!

  2. I love Slim Whitman. Who else could hit those notes? He was a prolific singer and was around since the 1940's. He even toured with Elvis.

    1. I could be wrong but I would think that not too many young people would know about Slim Whitman. I take your point and my post sounded disrespectful to Slim Whitman, and since that was not my intention, I went back and re-worded it.

    2. I did not think you were disparaging Slim Whitman. You have nothing to apologize for.

  3. I like the couple of Ezra songs that I've heard...particularly "Budapest"...I love that song.

However, I can't see or hear the similarity with Slim Whitman, though. George Ezra has a much deeper voice than Whitman had.

    1. You would have to be inside my mind to know why certain things remind me of other things. And you don't want to be inside my head!
I guess it is the falsetto range, or maybe the way that he sings is pleasing to me, and so few are able to do that for me these days!

  4. Dear Kay, the incident with the apostrophe on your keyboard is a sure sign that you NEED A REST, woman!!! That rest could, of course, involve another wonderful walk, with Richard taking pictures, and you telling us about it later :-)
We've had temps in the low 30s most mornings, 40s by late afternoon, and cold again at night. But from Sunday onwards, according to the weather folks we're in for SPRING - at 16 Celsius (60-something in Fahrenheit), which sounds almost too good to be true! But then again, it is March...

    1. I am taking ONE vacation day off soon (we don't get many in the USA and they are precious indeed) and hope to get some rest then! Also, seeing my Dad at the weekend and will get some rest there too. Thanks for caring!
Spring, I am ready for you!

  5. That's a splendid woodpecker Kay. I don't see them here although they have them on mainland UK.

It does sound as though you should be taking things a bit easier.

Hey! You just wrote about this recently on your blog...I am a Saturday's child! HA! Thanks, Graham. I hope things are getting a bit easier now.

  7. We have your woodpeckers down here on the coast and I always call them Heckle and Jeckle.
We were 84º yesterday too, 44º and below freezing tonight, I'm ready for spring.

    1. You have some great bird watching on the coast!
I know, this winter has been really strange to me. We are lucky not to have snow like other parts of the country, but hey, this is Georgia, we have to live through brutal summers so we need our mild winters! :-)
