Owl Video/Full Moon/Papa's Pears

Do you remember the two owls that we photographed at the Wildlife Festival? Richard took a video of them and I love that you can see them moving! Sorry that there is a fair amount of talking in the background, you might just want to turn your sound off and just see the silent owls turning their heads. Let me know what you think of it!

Richard took a photo of the full moon this past Friday night. At first, when the moon came out, it was obscured by clouds, but a bit later, the clouds moved away and with the few clouds remaining, it made for a beautiful sight. Hard to capture this on our little camera, but trust me, it was a nice thing to see. That is a sweet gum tree in our front yard outlined under the clouds.

The last photo is one that I took at my Dad's this past Saturday and it is of the pears heavily laden upon a branch with the bright blue sky behind it.
On Monday morning, Labor Day, we walked up Arabia Mountain, but that will have to be for another post!

    1. It was so wonderful to see them at such close quarters. And I agree, that little owl, incredibly small!

  2. Difficult picturing the moon without a decent lens. The owls are impressive, and now I want a pear!!!!

    1. Yes, we could use another camera and we would like a tripod too. Another one for the wish list!
I just made some pear cornbread, it is cooling and it smells delicious.

  3. You remember my "moony" post from the previous full moon in August? No matter how many times in our lives we see it, such a view of the nightly sky never loses its fascination, does it!
I wonder how much the owls were affected by the noise around them. As far as I know, their hearing is much more acute than what human ears can perceive. But I guess they're alright to be shown in public that one time of the year, and I am sure the people who take care of them make sure the exhibition doesn't endanger their well-being.
Those pears with the blue sky background look so tasty!
And I can't wait for your next Arabia Mountain post - it's been a while :-)

    1. We hope those owls were not affected by the noises there. They seemed to be fine and I hope that it was our camera that made it seem tso loud and that it really wasn't that bad for the dear creatures.
Yes, I remember your "moony" post too! I have always loved the moon, and isn't it nice that we all can enjoy it no matter where we all are on Earth?
I just made some pear cornbread and it made the house smell heavenly!

  4. The owls are beautiful. I love hearing them at night.
The moon picture is great, the outlined tree really adds to the overall effect.
Those pears look delicious, and the colours in that last picture are wonderful.

  6. Of course I love the owl video ~ they are too, too precious. And I was really enjoying that full moon last week ~ I thought it was amazing that there was a very full and bright moon the week that Neil Armstrong passed away! And I am only slightly envious of your Dad's incredible pear tree ~ I am salivating just thinking of all the things we could make with those pears!!!! YUM.

    1. Dear Audrey,
I hope you went outside on Friday and winked at the moon in honor of Neil Armstrong as his family requested. You know I did! I just made some pear cornbread and if it is any good, I might post the recipe. It smells good!

    2. Pooh. Somehow I missed that Neil's family requested that. It was a chaotic week with Soph starting school and getting ready for the beach. I would've totally done that though! We just read an incredible kids book the week before he passed called MOONSHOT. AMAZING! Hope your cornbread turned out well ~ sounds yummy!

    3. Apollo 13:Lost Moon by Jim Lovell is another book that I would recommend to you. (Not a kid's book, but you do know that I love books for kids right, you know I do!) The movie was based on that book. And I loved the movie too! Love true stories, especially ones that are inspirational, I might have to do a post about it.
Hey, do you have Publix where you are? The recipe is on the back of the Publix cornbread bag for Blueberry Lemon Muffins, I just used cooked, softened pears cut into small pieces for the blueberries! (Had to make it gluten free for Richard by using rice flour for the reg. flour.) It was good!
Oh, and I put 1/2 tsp of ginger in there, love my ginger!

  7. Owls are such majestic animals...there is something so graceful in the way that they move.

Great shot of the Blue moon - glad the clouds moved & Richard was able to get a good shot!

    1. I love owls and we were so happy to see them so close up. The owl that was on my arm (you have to go back a bit in my posts to see this) was so lightweight, it was just like a fluff of feathers, no weight to it at all. Graceful indeed.
And we love views of the sun and the moon from the front of our house. We don't get out much!

  8. Owls are wonderful, i'm always listening for them around here.

That moonlight picture, at first when i was looking at it obliquely, reminded me of a small island on the ocean in the moonlight, very peaceful.

    1. Oh yes, I see what you mean, the sweetgum leaves look like the tops of palm trees. Ahh, it does look peaceful, I guess that is why I chose it, I am always looking for peace.

  9. That video is so nice, Kay. That tiny little owl is adorable. The difference in size between the two is amazing.

The photo of the full moon is spectacular. That's a great capture no matter what type of camera you are using.

And I love pears! If only I could reach into that photo and grab one :)
