We went to London on Richard's birthday and arrived late in the day. If we walked very quickly, could we make it to Waterloo Bridge and see the sunset? We could! Richard was very pleased and you can tell from my face that it made me pretty happy too! Since this was MY idea to try to make the sunset, I think this was a pretty good present from me to my husband, don't you? (AND it didn't cost a thing! HA!) If you think about it, sunsets (and sunrises) don't cost one cent but they are there, you just have to be able to enjoy them! Funny thing, we noticed many people crossing the bridge with us, and you could tell they were not tourists but people who work in London, and some of them also stopped with us and admired the lovely view.
You do know the song "Waterloo Sunset" by the Kinks, don't you?
"As long as I gaze on Waterloo sunset, I am in paradise,".
So, have you seen a lovely sunrise or sunset lately? What are you waiting for?
O lovely sunset with a special person and the Kinks... what more could you wish for?
ReplyDeleteI am not a good actress, you know just how I feel by looking at my face, and I was thrilled to see this sunset and on Richard's birthday too! :-)
DeleteKay I always say that if I'm around to see the sun rise or set that it's a Good Day.
ReplyDeleteYou have shown us some lovely photos of the sun rising and setting on your blog! Good Day to you!
DeleteI make it a point every day to watch the sunrise and the sunsets. They remind me to be thankful for each day!
ReplyDeleteThankful for the day and thankful that I am able to appreciate the wonder of the beauty of a sunrise or sunset.
DeleteHi Kay
ReplyDeleteThose are lovely photos.
Not wishing to make anyone feel old but it is just a few months short of that record being released.
Richard took some even better ones as the sunset developed but doggone it, I feel guilty putting ALL of his very best photos on my blog!!
DeleteHi Kay ' a few months short of 50 years' would have been better
ReplyDeleteHa, ha! Yes, I knew it was 50. My sister was born that year so I remember reading that. Oddly enough, I don't think the song was a big hit in the USA If it was, I think I missed it.
DeleteThese are such beautiful photographs! What a lovely sunset. And you are right, sunsets don't cost one cent and they are there every day for us!
ReplyDeleteHey Martha! The sunset became even more spectacular and Richard took even better photos! And as darkness fell, he took more and more photos! All of this enfolded before our eyes and we were astounded at the beauty and all of it for free.
DeleteOh Kay - you should just see our sunsets here on the island- they are enough to make your heart burst with pleasure. I am sure that Graham would say the same about our sunrises but I don't usually surface until the streets are well aired!!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, Pat, Graham has the most beautiful photos on his blog! I am often telling him so! If you can't make it when the sun rises, you must make sure you see the sun set! Promise me!
DeletePS Forgot to say how lovely your pictures are. You both look so happy to be "home" in England. Wouldn't mind some of your American sun though - maybe just for a couple of days! x
ReplyDeleteIt was nice to be in England! You are welcome to this hot sun, we have had something like 80 days with the temps over 90, including yesterday when it went to 91, I think!
DeleteIt's not easy to see either from our house, but some days we are blessed. It's one reason i love going to the beach, the view of the sky.
ReplyDeleteWe can see the sunrise from our house but not the sunset because of the trees. We like to view the sunset from Arabia Mountain!
DeleteWhat a great way to celebrate Richards birthday!! xx
ReplyDeleteIt really was very special for us both! xx
DeleteKay, You both look happy....the perfect gift. I love sunsets. Happy birthday to your sweetheart. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteThank you, Susie! I have seen some lovely sunsets on your blog! xx
DeleteLooks good and a lot of exciting new buildings to see in London now. Birthday Greetings to Richard. One of my favourite songs.
ReplyDeleteThank you kindly for Richard's Birthday Greetings! And I really need to do a post about the new buildings in London, they are amazing. Glad you like the song too!
DeleteSeen both recently - it is now late enough in the year for me to witness sunrises on working days, and whenever I can, I try to look at the sunset, too.
ReplyDeleteYesterday, O.K. and I were out cycling, and on our way back to O.K.'s village, the sunset across the fields was so magnificent, I wish I'd had my camera with me! Instead, I'll try to keep the memory of that wonderful view (and romantic situation) in my heart.
Sunsets should come with the sound of trumpets to announce such beauty but they do not, you just have to notice them! Glad you saw such a beautiful one with your new love! :-)
DeleteSuch an excellent pic of Richard!
ReplyDeleteWho took it for you...?
Sunsets are always good, well done to you for force marching him there.
Ha, ha, Ad-Man, you know I took this photo!
DeleteOh yes, I made him march..one, two...one, two. Hey, we made it! Richard is such a smart man, he always listens to me!
That is an absolutely beautiful view. It didn't cost a thing but it's still worth a lot!
ReplyDeleteIt is priceless!

DeleteI couldn't remember the song at first and then I played your video. It brought back memories from my young days. I'm so glad you had such a great sunset to enjoy. Happy Birthday, Richard!
ReplyDeleteLoved your photo's and such a brilliant song choice.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
