Globe Theatre, London

Hey! Would you like to see "A Midsummer Night's Dream" performed at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London? This was from Sept. 11, 2016 and the Globe's blog will have it available for another 30 days online for you.  You may find it just here!

The Globe Theatre In London, you do know about it, don't you? The original Globe was used for the plays of Shakespeare, built in 1599, it was destroyed by fire in 1613.
Sam Wanamaker, an American actor who lived in England, was behind the idea and construction of the new Globe Theatre. It is an oak and thatch replica of the original, which shows the plays of Shakespeare. (If you watch a lot of British TV shows, you might recognize his daughter, Zoe Wanamaker, she has been in a lot of things!)

Richard took a photo of the wrought iron gate in front of the Globe, isn't it interesting?  This is located in Southwark, it is called Bankside and it is quite the lively area!
When I saw this quote on one of the rubbish bins (garbage cans to us Americans!) you know I had to share it with you! It is from Shakespeare (of course!) and it says, "I like this place and could willingly waste my time in it!"...Celia from "As You Like It".

Wait, I have LOADS of great photos to show you and here I am showing you a dang TRASH CAN!  Hey, I told ya'll I just ain't right these days! Wish me luck, my friends, I am in need of it!

  1. Here's wishing you lots of luck, dear Kay - I hope whatever it is that makes you "not right" these days will soon pass!

I seem to remember that Jenny Woolf did a post on her blog about the Globe theatre and a performance she watched there. It must be the most unusual thing, and I am glad you had a chance to go!

    1. I also hope to get back to my normal, irritating self once again as opposed to this zombie like state!
I didn't actually see the performance that I mentioned, I was just excited that they had it on their blog so I could see it! Still, I was excited just to see the Globe and to be on the South Bank, it was exciting.

  2. How awesome to actually be at the Globe Theater. When I was in high school, one of our school projects was to create the Globe Theater with Popsicle sticks. It would be fabulous to see the real thing.

  6. Of course A Midsummer Night's Dream is my favorite Shakespeare play! To see it at the Globe Theater would be an experience. My grandson played Puck and a couple of lesser characters when they did it in high school. Of course he was brilliant.

    1. Of course he was brilliant!! I somehow remember Puck being played by Jimmy Cagney. I have read too many books about Hollywood! :-)

    3. Too bad all this movie knowledge doesn't make me any money!
I had the highest score on the airplane on the trivia game though. No money but it made me happy! :-)

    1. See, that is the thing. I didn't make it clear.. we were in London and went past the Globe but we didn't see the performance that I have mentioned, I was just happy to find it on the Globe Theatre's blog.
      I didn't mean to mislead!

  8. Always thought it was a lovely theatre. Watched a good film recently called 'Anonymous' with a great well known cast of actors speculating about who exactly came up with the plays.

    1. Rather than Shakespeare writing the plays, perhaps it was someone that is unknown. And MAYBE the unknown person was MY ancestor! HA! Nah, I believe it was Shakespeare myself, just a gut feeling of mine, but they are mostly correct!

  10. Holy Moley! A pink rubbish bin. Now that is my kind of colour. I bet Graham is laughing his head off at that colour. He knows that with me, it is any colour as long as it is pink!! I even have a pink micro-wave and pink toaster plus sundry other pink items in my kitchen. x

    1. Oh yes, if you read about him, it sounds as if he left America in 1950's the days when anyone with even slightly liberal views were blacklisted. America's loss, but England's gain!
