Even though I was very busy yesterday, I managed to see most of the broadcast of the entertainment awards show, "The Golden Globes". I know that I am not with the times but the host of the show, Ricky Gervais needs to go. He isn't funny! Comedy is a strange thing, sometimes a comedian might go somewhere that I wouldn't go, but I don't necessarily feel offended. Think of Robin Williams or Joan Rivers, I really liked them and miss them both. There is a meanness about Mr. Gervais that I think is very negative. One of the winners of the award was a young man who won for a movie called "Son of Saul", which he said hoped to put a face to the Holocaust. What did the host say after such a moving statement? Nothing at all regarding that, but with drink in hand, say the awards were going on too long! I wish Mr. Gervais no harm, I just looked it up and he is worth 90 million dollars! With money like that, he could buy a private island somewhere. And then, he could go there and STAY there! Get off my TV, so I don't have to see or hear of you again!
By the way, I do talk back all the time! I might not let my dear readers of my blog know this, but I do, honestly, I do! I hope that I do it in a kind way. (See, R. G. doesn't deserve a happy life on a private island, but I am letting him live there in my imagination, aren't I?)
Very surprised of the death of David Bowie today. For me, even though I can't say that I have any of his albums, I still liked him and admired his talent. Certain songs of his have memories for me and music is such a great part of life! I first thought of the song "Young Americans" from 1975, anybody else remember that one?.
And if you are wondering where the title of my post came from, it is from a great song by Lieber and Stoller, made famous by Elvis Presley, I have had it on my blog before, I am sure, but I will happily have it again!
Thanks for letting me spout off! Richard and I both have been a bit sickly but we think we are getting better. I must be anyway, back to my old sassy self!
It puts rock-n-roll in a different context.
ReplyDeleteEarly days of rock-n-roll had lots of blues mixed in, I guess!
DeleteGlad you are both getting better - hope you are fully recovered soon. Love the teapot so keep on spouting!
ReplyDeleteThat teapot photo was taken in England! It was at the home of Richard's Aunt Doreen, and I took that picture just because I liked the teapot so much. I miss Doreen, she is the one that if you look back, you will see her posing with the photo of Queen Elizabeth.
DeleteGood Song. I talk back at the television too... sometimes I yell. I didn't watch the Golden Globes either. There are so many awards shows that I overdosed a long time ago and cannot watch. Finally I am happy that you are feeling more like your sassy self.
ReplyDeleteYou have no idea at how much I talk back to the TV!! I do like to watch the awards shows, there are always moments that are worth it, although you have to sit thourgh so much drivel before those moments.
DeleteSorry to hear you were unwell again. I hope you can soon be back to your lovely walks and hikes, on Arabia and Stone Mountain and elsewhere!
ReplyDeleteNone of the awards ceremonies on telly are of any interest to me. I know there are lots, and sometimes it helps with the pub quiz to know the names of those who were awareded, but I am just not "into" celebrities in the first place ;-)
And you are so right about comedy - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. What one person can laugh their head off about, the next person just sits there and shrugs.
PS: I sometimes talk back, too ;-)
DeleteI have very strong ideas about comedy. If I only had the nerve, I could do stand up myself!!
DeleteWe have walked when we can, that is the only time that I feel like myself!
I've never got Ricky Gervais either and didn't find The Office all that funny. Hope you are both back to full fitness soon.
ReplyDeleteCome to think of it, I thought The Office was funny as long as R.G. wasn't in a scene, but it seems that he was in a great many of them!
DeleteThanks for the well wishes, winter is hard, for everyone, I know, but I truly dislike it.
I love your teapot. Sometimes it does one good to spout off and talk back...
ReplyDeleteHey MA! I try to look on the bright side but sometimes I think I need to speak out about negative things and people!
DeleteI didn't watch the Golden Globes, so I'm spared from all this :) I hope you're feeling better!
ReplyDeleteYou are lucky! It has been like 1 step forward, 3 steps back, that kind of thing. Oh well, could be worse!
DeleteYour blog should be for spouting, if that's what you need to do. Feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteWell, there are TONS of things that I could spout off about, and I do on a daily basis but when I go to type a post, somehow, I just want to point out beauty!
DeleteWhat a great teapot - it makes me think of Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast. (Not sure why, but possibly the colour scheme.)
ReplyDeleteI talk back too, when watching movies. It sometimes drives my husband crazy. :)
I was never a big Bowie fan but he was indeed a talented artist. The song I always think of when I hear his name is "Golden Years" - it was used very effectively in the movie A Knight's Tale.
And Mrs. Potts sounds JUST LIKE my mother-in-law, no kidding! :-)
DeleteI cannot tell you how much I talk back when watching TV and movies, if only they would listen!!
Yes, I remember Golden Years, I liked that one too. And you know I saw A Knight's Tale, at the movies with Heath Ledger and Rufus Sewell, another one of our favorite English actors!!
I don't watch network tv but I did see the ad where he was hosting the Golden Globe awards and didn't find him to be 'funny' at all.
ReplyDeleteLove your teapot,too!
So many people find him unfunny, but he still makes millions. Sometimes, I can't figure this world out. Blessings to you Sylvis, my Georgian friend! xx
DeleteLike you, I'm not a fan of Ricky Gervais. I don't understand why he gets invited back. I'm not sure if I'd watch anyway but I definitely wouldn't as long as he's there hosting. Hope you're both feeling tip-top again very soon! XOXO
ReplyDeleteOf course, you wouldn't like him either, we are so much alike!! :-)
DeleteTip top shape, that is something to aim for! xx
Hope you and your husband are feeling better. We've both been sick too, something going around Georgia I guess. I don't like Ricky Gervais either, I hate mean-spirited "comedians".
ReplyDeleteRicky Gervais is famously unfunny but charges high prices.
ReplyDeleteHe should be sent to Afghanistan.
Sometimes you just need to let things out don't you! xx
ReplyDeleteHope you and your hubby are both getting better. Pineapple juice seemed to help me. Your teapot is adorable, and you need to talk back sometimes! My grandmother called me "Last word Sally" whenever I talked back!
ReplyDeleteI talk to myself all the time - if any one asks I am talking to my dog!
ReplyDeleteMy sentiments exactly about Ricky Gervais - beats me how cruel remarks are sometimes supposed to be funny.
Hope you will soon be "fighting" fit - so to speak.
I agree with you about RG and even though I don't watch award shows, I did see some of his comments in a news slips. He really is quite mean spirited at the expense of others and he may be wealthy, but he comes across as unkind. Hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched the Golden Globes but I've heard that Rick Gervais is supposed to have his own kind of humor...interesting that he was invited to moderate such a big show then. I guess I didn't miss anything by not watching.
ReplyDeleteGet well again very soon!
Lots of hugs to you,
Beate
I thought that award show would never be over - I DVRd it and watched it all week. :) He's not that funny, but the the celebs seem to love him.
ReplyDeleteLove that teapot!
There are very few comedians who actually offend me and I feel need to go. Even the ones who are mean for no good reason. If he was a bad host he was a bad host. If he was offensive then he's not really the one at fault.
ReplyDeleteI love David Bowie...always have; and I'm very saddened by his passing. I saw him live in concert - his "Serious Moonlight" tour - in 1983. He was spectacular; brilliant, mesmerising; unforgettable. He was ahead of his time...always.
ReplyDeleteI hope at the time of my writing this you and Richard are feeling completely better....take care. :)
