Jimmy Carter

Jimmy Carter was our 39th President of the United States of America.  He was from Georgia, which I hope you know!  You might not know this...my Dad met him on a plane years ago, and Jimmy Carter made a point to walk down the aisles of the plane and to shake hands with all those aboard. Since then, I have heard that others have witnessed this. So, does that mean that he does this on every single flight he has flown? That's Jimmy for you!

What has he been doing these past years?  Why, still teaching Sunday school at the Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, GA.   Oh, and even though he went through treatment for brain cancer last year, he and his wife, Rosalyn, still work very hard building houses for Habitat for Humanity.  You might not agree with his politics, you must agree that he has to be one of the busiest ex-presidents that we have ever had.  You may read more about Jimmy Carter just
here.

Remember on my last post about the Rockdale Art Farm?  The Special Issue Permit was approved!  It will still have to be approved by the Board of Commissioners but I hope that that will be just a formality and that I will be able to tell you more in the weeks to come.  Thanks for all your well wishes.
Thinking of all those on the North Carolina coast tonight.  The pictures from there look scary. (This is a photo from the pier in Eastbourne, England.)  They don't think we will get much rain here in Georgia. It was hot today, my car said 100 degrees when I left work at the end of the day. HOT. Ready for autumn and cooler temperatures.
Take care.

  1. The more I read about Jimmy the more impressed I am by him. I voted for him, but he was just too honest for his own good.

  2. I remember seeing a programme about his house building project. Always got the reputation for being a hands on down to earth guy.

  3. The problem with Carter's presidency, besides a Olympic boycott and an Iranian revolution, not much else really happened. While Carter's personal politics would be considered a liberal democrat, those four years weren't really anything. Like the country being in "park" instead of forward or reverse.

I will say he's most likely the most moral president we've ever had. His commitment to helping the unfortunate is pretty darn self-less.

    1. I think the achievement that he was most proud of was the Egypt Israel Peace Treaty. I just looked it up and found a good piece about it...https://www.e-ir.info/2016/04/21/the-camp-david-accords-jimmy-carters-role-in-securing-middle-east-peace/

  4. He lives what he believes, and we need more people like that on any side of the aisle.

Praying for all of those affected by Florence.

And since I wrote this post, the stories from this storm have been tragic.

  5. Politics aside, I've always seen him as a very moral man who really cares about people. And that impresses me.

  7. Great news about the permit being approved.....I respect Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter immensely. They do so much good in the world. I donate every month to the Carter Center so I can be a small part of it.

  10. Great news about the permit! Like you, I hope the next step will only be a formality. As for the Carters, the world could do with a few more of their kind!

  11. Nice to see the human side of our Presidents. Many are never heard of again or if they are it's when they are campaigning for someone else. Glad the art project is moving along. Those affected by Florence have been in my prayers too. Hard to believe it could have been worse.

    1. The stories from Florence have been so scary and I fear that we will hear more details as the days go by.
The RAF, more to come on that, I am sure.
And President Carter and his wife Rosalyn, they are okay in my book!

  12. I have always been a fan of Jimmy Carter. If it hadn't been for the Ayatollah he would have had a more productive presidency. I have read all his books and really admire his decency and service.

  15. Jimmy Carter was one of the best presidents the US had, he was stabbed in the back by mad boy Regan and his cronies.

    1. Just as I like Carter, I also like Reagan. There, that is why it is difficult for me in this country. Neither side likes me, they never know if I am Democrat or Republican! I feel as if I am squarely in the middle.
