Snow Mountain/No Mountain!

Due to the snowy conditions in the Atlanta area today, Snow Mountain at Stone Mountain closed today at 2PM.  Oh, lovely irony!  (Snow is produced from the water from Stone Mountain lake and they make 350 tons a day. It is projected onto this giant hill just in front of Stone Mountain...it is very popular.)

You should see the map of Georgia today on the TV weather radar.
The snow fell north of Atlanta but there is a line just east of Atlanta, and beyond that line, it was only rain with a mixture of snow.  So, no snow on the ground for me! Not YET anyway!  We will have to wait and see what happens!
If it does snow tomorrow, as long as I have my Yorkshire tea, I will be OKAY!
(Note, this photo is from a few years ago!)

The snow fell from as far south as Louisiana all  the way up to Maine! That means from Mimi to Nan! (Mimi- my blogging friend in LA and Nan is my friend in ME.)   Those letters are the state abbreviations for the postal service!

What is the weather like where you are?

  1. Cold and drizzly here on the coast, it's been raining for 2 days. No snow though.

    1. There was snow in the county north of us, the county south of us and the county west of us but in this county...only cold and drizzly too!
We got a light dusting this morning but it melted quickly but it is still cold. Some spots north of Atlanta got as much as one foot of snow!

  2. We have snow but may have slightly warmer weather beginning tomorrow. It could even go above freezing.

    1. It was a major storm. The weatherman said he had been in Atlanta for 37 years and never saw anything like it, except maybe for the blizzard of '93, which I need to do a post about!
      Cheers to you!

  4. That snow park looks fun. Real snow probably buried the equipment too much to be safe looking at the video. It's snow here as well.

    1. They really closed Snow Mountain because they were worried about the workers and visitors driving home. I just thought it was funny to close Snow Mountain due to snow! The snow park is very popular but Richard and I have nothing to do with it, we love the nature trails there, they are fantastic.

  5. Snow Mountain closed because of snow, seriously? :-D
We've had a light dusting last night, it looks pretty this morning from my kitchen window.
Yesterday was really mad, weather-wise - within the space of one or two hours, we had everything from sleety rain to strong winds rushing about the high-rise I was working in (the noise!), darkness at 1:15 pm and then bright sunshine half an hour later! I kept switching the light at the office on and off, and had a great view of spectacular skies from my desk on the 9th floor.

    1. Yes, they really did close it, but I also read they were going to re open it today about mid morning! By that time, they reasoned the roads would be fine. (That is really why it was closed, you have to consider all those who drive home afterward.0
We also got a light dusting of snow this morning but even anything to get a photo of...not like the Christmas card looking scenes we are seeing on the TV from the rest of Atlanta. Kinda makes me sick! :-)

  6. The snow has mostly behaved itself here. The majority of the roads are dry and open, the snow stayed on the grass and lasted overnight. We still have a white wintry wonderland out there today. It's so unusual!

    1. Hey Mimi! You see I was thinking about you! I like a wintry wonderland, as long as the roads are clear!

    1. Most unusual to get this much snow in North Georgia, I feel a little bit sorry we missed it, just southeast of Atlanta.

  9. Hello Kay, I've only just seen the comment you left on my blog. Thank you so much for stopping by to check on me. Chickpea and I are fine but life just got too busy and I decided to give the blog a rest for a while. Not sure if I will be back or not: I'm thinking of giving instagram a go. My Dad is unwell at the moment though so my energies will be focused on supporting him for a while. Have a lovely Christmas. I love the photo of the covered bridge. When I visited my penfriend in upstate New York, one of my requests was to see a covered bridge. xx

    1. Julie! So good to see your comment here!
Of course, you take care of your Dad, that is the most important thing!
If you do decide to do Instagram, I am Kayrich83.
I don't do much on it all, I only have an ancient tablet but I do like looking at it and leaving comments on there. It is like my window on the world!
I love covered bridges! There is one at Stone Mountain, but the one in the photo is in the same county where I live and you know I had to stop and walk across it!
I hope you have a lovely Christmas with your Chickpea and tell your Dad hello from your Yankee friend! xx

  10. November was very cold here in Alberta, with a fair bit of snow. But December has been quite balmy, with temperatures just a few degrees above or below zero. A lot of the snow has melted but there's still enough around that everything is white.

    1. Everything is white, that sounds so pretty!
      Stay warm, my friend!

  11. That is crazy. And sad lol. Here in the midwest we just received the first 'dusting' last night. My daughters are working at a ski resort in CO and they have NO snow yet. The weather sure is crazy!

    1. Hey Lauren! My sister lives in Steamboat Springs, CO and she said we might have more snow in Atlanta than she does there!
You are right, the weather is crazy.

  12. My brother who lives in Atlanta (well, Alpharetta) posted about the snow on fb yesterday. They are having their own irony because my niece who has lived in Hawaii for three years just arrived home for a visit and the weather was NOT what she had expected!

    1. This snow was unbelievable because of that line that I told you about, if you were east of that line, you got nothing. My son who lives north of Atlanta, got 6 inches. He just called me and said it was the most he has ever seen in his life. :-)

  13. Just got our first "stick to ground" snow yesterday and expecting more this coming week. Winter has arrived and we'll be in the snow till May I expect! Enjoy your white stuff! My son was in Atlanta on business and flew out just before the storm. I'll see my Georgia brothers next week and find out how they survived their snow!

    1. Your son and my husband might have been on the airport at the same time! (Along with a few others...LOL.)
Richard got back from a visit to England and I am so grateful that he got back before the snow! x

  14. That does sound like unusual snow falls so far south in the US. At this stage my DD in Ottawa has seen only a fine dusting of the pretty white stuff!

    1. We can have snow now and again but this was a bit early for us, and besides, I saw that it snowed in spots in Texas where they have not seen snow for 30 years! That must have been something!

  15. Well, it's warmer here in Hawaii. Ha.
