Artful stone stacking...that is something that we often see on our walks over our local monadnocks (stone mountains in this area.) This weekend, my husband and I were happy to run into Ranger Robby at Arabia Mountain and he told us that this coming Saturday will be a fun filled day at the mountain including something called Yoga Laughter (which I like the sound of) and also, Artful Stone Stacking.
Arabia Mountain Play Day
March 19 @ 9:00 am - 2:30 pm FREE!
Anybody remember the last time we saw Ranger Robby? It was last June and you can see him in the photo above cooling off in the waterfall! Ranger Robby, you are a such a good sport to let us take your photo like this! (Well, to let Richard take it, I should say, to be honest!)

Stonehenge in Wiltshire, England...you know I had to mention it in this post! There are many theories as to the meaning and purpose behind the placement of these ancient stones. I don't know, I only know I like the look of them. It is not my aim in life to explain the world, I just appreciate beauty wherever I see it, the marvelous wonder of it all!
Hope you are all finding beauty wherever you are and that you are all doing well. We just had the most beautiful weekend with many of our trees coming into bloom. It was a shame to lose even one hour of it! (Daylight savings time for us now.)
The first photo of stacked stones did remind me of Stonehenge! And I've done a bit of Laughter Yoga -- it's good fun! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI think I practice Giggling Yoga every day! :-)
DeleteYes, very artful stone arranging - I'd have taken a pic too. Your mountains do sound interesting, Kay.
ReplyDeleteI guess you have been to Stonehenge - we were disappointed when we were there that we couldn't walk amid the stones, and were held back behind a fence. However, it was great to see and to know we have been there.
You would love all these mountains and we also see birds there too!
DeleteI know that you are not allowed to walk amid the stones now but you could always go to Avebury, I think you could walk around those stones, I think you still can anyway!
Oh yes, I remember Ranger Robby from your other post! He sounds like such a great guy. I love it when people love what they do, and are good at it, and with their enthusiasm can infect others.
ReplyDeleteWill you go to the Yoga Laughing and Stone Stacking events?
The first trees are in bloom here, too! I came across some on my way to my Mum's for lunch on Friday, and on Sunday, we were out walking and saw the hawthorn hedges on the fields covered in their beautiful little white flowers. I was amazed to see this as it is still really very cold with frosty nights here.
Ranger Robby is one of my heroes!
DeleteI'm not sure if I will be able to make these events, if there are too many people then, maybe not, I don't like crowds.
Laughter yoga sounds intriguing - will try to remember to ask my yoga teacher if she's heard of it. The stone stacking looks great too - I love the use of the natural world to make art. X
ReplyDeleteOh, I love the idea of spreading Yoga laughter around the world, which is funny since I have never done it!
Delete:-)
The natural world as art, I love it!
It's nice that your parks allow people to do the stone stacking. In some places, they don't want you to even move so much as a leaf! Hope you enjoy your Saturday.
ReplyDeleteThis was used as a quarry for many years and there are quite a few rock piles around. I just hope that no one tromps over any of the solution pits to get to the rocks for their stone stacking!
DeleteHi Kay, This makes me wish I had some lovely stones to stack. Wouldn't a nice tall stack look good in a garden of flowers? Blessings, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I have seen the stone stacks in gardens, well...in pictures of gardens anyway! Blessings to you, sweet Susie! xx
DeleteI always love standing "stanes". And I love seeing those artfully arranged stones at Arabia mountain that I would never have seen without you sharing them with all of us. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI also like sandcastles too, come to think of it. I should do a post about them too!
DeleteThe artistry involved in stone stacking is amazing. That one looked like a town with a layout like the yellow brick road.
ReplyDeleteI know, we were impressed by how big this was, it must have taken some time to create it.
DeleteI like that stone stacking. I need to visit that park.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, Lynn, you must! Stop by the nature center and tell Robby you know him from my blog! :-)
DeleteImagine if the stones did stay like that on the mountain and then in future years they tried to work out what it all meant! xx
ReplyDeleteHa! That reminds me of the story of what would happen in the future if they found the remains of Disney World in Florida, they would think we worshiped a mouse! xx
DeleteI've done laughter yoga - good fun. And occasionally I practise it at home by myself, as long as I'm sure no-one is going to hear. I think I was 10-20 years too late getting to see Stonehenge which was crawling with people and just felt like a tourist ripoff to me. I much preferred the Standing Stones of Callanish in the Outer Hebrides where we could wander amongst the stones. Love that stone stacking, have tried to do it many times to no avail.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I would love to see those Standing Stones too!
DeleteVery often a place that everyone wants to see will sometimes be so swamped with people that the people are all you can see! (Does that sense?)
I hope that only the most talented will do the stone stacking. Mine would just look a mess!
People who stack stones should be stoned I say.
ReplyDeleteNow, now...no mention of stoning on my blog, sir!
DeleteHorsewhipping, that's okay! :-)
That is a wonderful arrangement of stones.
ReplyDeleteAnd I would love to see Stonehenge in person.
You know, I would dearly love to see Stonehenge myself. In all the years of visiting England, it is only London and the southeast of England that I know. :-)
DeleteI do like stonehenge but part of me does hope it's something small and silly. Like we think it's this huge thing but it's something someone made because they were rich and bored. It's the kind of thing I'd do if I was rich. Instead I'm just bored a lot.
ReplyDeleteYou should come and walk over Arabia Mountain with us! The time passes by and the hours are like minutes! When you are bored, go for a long walk in nature, this is my advice for you!
DeleteI visited Stonehenge several times way back in the days when you could wander around them and touch them. I don't want to see them anymore as they will be fenced off and crawling with people!
ReplyDeleteI think you would love the Standing Stones at Callanish Kay. You can wander around them and with the wide open views and huge skies they are magical - especially when there are no tourists around in the winter!!! Then it is a swift walk down to the coffee shop at the bottom of the hill for hot chocolate and a fruit scone. Lovely!
Wide open views and huge skies with ancient stones, and afterwards having one of those wonderful scones and chatting and giggling with my friend Pat, that does indeed sound lovely. xx
DeleteHi Kay! Your Ranger Robby looks like a lot of fun. I found the stone stacking video fascinating! I've been bobbing around in the waves on a float ring staring at the immensity of the South Pacific and thinking of Louis Zamperini. And you! Because you introduced me to this amazing hero! I hope you go check out laughing yoga. Take care!
ReplyDeleteHey Louise! You have made my day! I love that you love Mr. Zamperini as much as I do and I know that the thought of him surviving in his tiny raft on that vast ocean gives you much admiration for him! Even if I don't do my laughing yoga, I promise I will laugh today, I always do! :-)
DeleteThe stone stacking thing sounds and looks like a really fun and creative thing to do.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see Stonehenge some day.
It amazes us to see some of the stone stacking sometimes, people are very talented.
DeleteI would also love to see the place that you and your Mom and husband went to, the rock cave where the sunlight was in your hands and you were all smiles, that is one of my favorite photos of any I have ever seen, it's magical. xx
Von Daniken would have a field day!!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteChariots of the Gods, I remember the book and how much people talked about it. I am more of a "Chariots of Fire" gal, myself!
Delete:-)
