Do you know that the very popular song "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen is 40 years old today? In our correspondence as pen friends, Richard told me about the group Queen and I bought their album in 1975. It was great! My younger brother CONFISCATED it and took it as his own, playing it over and over. The song "Bohemian Rhapsody" gained even more popularity in the early 1990's from the movie "Wayne's World". However, it has such stirring music that it is only natural that someone might want to put different lyrics to them. I think I have told you before that the music was used for a Christmas play with puppets and it was called "Bethelehemian Rhapsody"! (The parody was written by Mark Bradford and he has written others also!) Wouldn't it be nice, I thought, if this same song was used with different images, rather than puppets? I was pleased to find a video that WAS put together doing just that, using parts from Biblical movies! I was pleased to see that at the end of it, my old friend, Frank Logue is the one who put that video together!
Now, Frank Logue does not know me, I am sure, but he had the very first blog that I ever read! Frank Logue is a very interesting person. He was the Episcopal priest in Kingsland, Georgia but is now an assistant to the Bishop in Savannah, Georgia. (He has a blog called The Loose Canon...just because you are a priest or a canon does not mean you can't be funny too!) Also, Frank and his wife Victoria have both written books about hiking on the Appalachian Trail, along with other travel books. I told you he was interesting!
And just in case you can't make out the lyrics, I have another video of the one with puppets WITH the lyrics for you!
I am sure that everyone will have Halloween things on their blogs today but after all, tomorrow is All Saint's Day! And Christmas is around the corner! Good day to you all! Don't eat all the chocolate, save some for me! You can keep the Reese's, I like MILKY WAYS (they are MARS bars in England!)
What a fun parody, Kay! People are so clever at adapting all sorts of things. Have an enjoyable weekend! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteIt is a fun video but also very clever as it is completely true to the Bible!
DeleteHope you are had a great weekend too...it is Monday morning now and pouring with rain! LOL! xx
Kay, I love the biblical version. That is a wonderful song. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteGlad you like it too! I think that great music deserves great lyrics! There are quite a few hymns that are set to music that had been used in drinking establishments in England! "Why should the devil get all the good tunes", is a quote that I believe one of the hymn writers said!
DeleteWow! Thank you for posting this!
ReplyDeleteI am glad that you like it too! I hope that someone sees it and decides they could do the puppet show at their church! That would be neat! (Neat...can you tell I grew up in the 60's. LOL.)
DeleteNo Halloween things on my blog today, Kay ;-)
ReplyDeleteIt's just not something I've grown up with. Instead, it has been introduced here over the past 15 years or so by the big companies who want to sell more and more of their Halloween-related products, not a tradition that has grown naturally as it has in the UK and the US. Therefore, thanks, but no thanks :-)
For me personally, more than anything else, the 31st of October is Steve's birthday... he would have been 47 today...
Really, Milkyway bars are Mars bars in England? That's funny, because in Germany, we have both - Milkyway and Mars bars - and they are very different from each other! Do you also have Almond Mars? I really like those but haven't bought them for years.
Forgot to mention that in the late 70s/early 80s, my sister turned into a big Queen fan nearly overnight. At first, I couldn't stand the music - it was too loud, too much ROCK for me - but then I started to like them, too, and kept listening to their albums together with my sister all the time, until we discovered the New Romantic stuff bands such as Depeche Mode introduced to our ears.
DeleteI loved Halloween as a kid and so did my Christopher but I think it should be just that, for CHILDREN. Still, if people can get enjoyment from it, then I have no problem with it, but it does seem to have gotten out of hand recently!
DeleteI wonder, do you call your Mother in law in Yorkshire on the anniversary of Steve's birth? I love it when you and your sister visit there, it looks so lovely and his family just seem so nice. x
Hmm...our MARS bars do have almonds in them, maybe that it is what we call MARS bars? You will just have to come to the USA to find out! LOL!
I also liked more folky type of music, it was my sister who was more Rock n Roll, but I always liked Queen! And the music of the 80's, that was the decade of music for me!
My son is a huge fan of Queen. What I like about their music is the variety. They could do heavy rock an also oldies. They had songs that remind you of the early part of the 20th century and songs of the future. Some songs are religious and some are irreverent. They insisted on being as close to perfection as possible when recording.
ReplyDeleteDo you remember Freddie Mercury from the Band Aid Concert in 1985? Wow, he COMPLETELY owned that stage, he was wonderful!
DeleteMy brother and sister saw him in concert. They said they have never seen anyone who took over the stage the way he did.
DeleteArrrrrrgggghhhh! I'm getting old! I'm even older than "Bohemian Rhapsody"!!!! Thanks for reminding me!!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI love Queen and I love Freddie! Freddie Mercury was unique! Fantastic singer...fantastic band.
Tell me about it, I tell my co workers, that I have CLOTHES older than they are! LOL.
DeleteFreddie Mercury, do you remember him from Band Aid in 1985? He was INCREDIBLE! We were in England at the time , and it happened to be the one and only nice day that whole summer (I swear!!) and I was so happy that we made it back in time to see his performance!
I certainly do....that was the most amazing concert...and his performance was spectacular...it was the best of the lot...and that's saying something. My ex and I stayed up throughout the night....we didn't sleep....we watched the whole concert from go to whoa! It was great.
DeleteOh, I never thought about the folks DOWN UNDER, staying up all night to watch the BandAid Concert! Thanks for telling me that! And you are so right, Freddie Mercury OWNED that audience, it was amazing to see!
DeleteOne of my very favorite pieces of music ever. Queen really had it together when they did that song. LOVE it!!!! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteAND don't you love it set to THESE lyrics? "It's a wondrous story...to meeeeee" Now, you will be singing that at Christmas! You know I do! xx
DeleteHalloween? Thanks but NO THANKS! I am completely with Librarian there. It has slowly crept up on us over recent years becoming a multi-million pound industry of pure tat. Am I getting old and grumpy?!!
ReplyDeleteYou are right, Pat! I well remember being in England in 1985 and there was not one single MENTION of Halloween, not a bit of it! Over the years and I would say, just over recent years, has it become more popular there. Always something that the stores will try to promote to make more money!
DeleteAND if you are getting old and grumpy, come and sit by me and join the club! HA! xx
Thank you for visiting my blog and saying hello! I completely enjoyed the Bethlehemian Rhapsody. Very clever! I will also look up Mr. Logue's Appalachian Trail book. Our daughter thru-hiked the AT last year and the trail crisscrosses through our county.
ReplyDeleteLeonora, is that your real name? It is lovely!
DeleteAnd you also have a lovely blog! I am very happy you liked this song too AND that you noticed the reference to the AT! Frank Logue and his wife Victoria hiked the entire Appalachian Trail in 1988 and the books that they have written are quite popular, I believe. Lucky you, to have the AT so very close to you!! Let me know if you find Frank's book and what you think! You have made my day!
Yes- this is my name (I was named after my Uncle Leonard. : )
DeleteI found several of the Logue's books at our local library!! I chose one about day hikes on the AT and the other- a guide to the Blue Ridge Parkway. I'm very excited about exploring some of their suggestions. I love the connections made via blogging- don't you?! We all have so much to offer one another in our sharing.
Oh, I am thrilled that you found the books by Frank Logue! I do hope that you will like them, he is a very talented writer and very knowledgeable about the AT!
DeleteI love your name! I had an Aunt LEONA and she was much adored and your name reminds me of her!
And yes, I also love the connections from blogging. I really do meet the nicest people, include yourself in that! :-)
Hope you had a good one too! AND that you had lots of chocolate left over that you didn't give out to Trick or Treaters!! (I am looking on the bright side!)
ReplyDeleteOh, Queen were such an amazing band. I just got into them last year, after somehow not noticing them much.
ReplyDeleteYou must be a lot younger than I am, that could be the only reason you didn't think of Queen that much! :-)
DeleteThanks for the Haka video -- very interesting! And LOL, I love the Bethlehemian Rhapsody! I think I just found my Christmas post video, thanks to you!
ReplyDeleteHey Debra!
DeleteYou can look at YouTube and see lots of videos of the Haka, including the English drowning them out singing "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot"!
I am so happy that you like Bethlehemian Rhapsody too!! It is very good, isn't it? I will be thrilled to see it on your blog!! You have made my day, Debra, as you often do!!
