Great Video- Please watch!
The video that I have here for you is from "Strictly Come Dancing". (It is on the BBC.) The woman dancer is the professional dancer, and her partner is Chris McCausland, a blind comedian and actor. There, you read that correctly, he is a man who cannot see. (He was not born blind; he lost his sight gradually to retinitis pigmentosa.) The dance in the video was performed to "Instant Karma/ We All Shine On" by John Lennon. (I had the single: the B side was Yoko Ono singing "Who Has Seen the Wind". Anybody else have that record?) Not sure who is doing the singing on this song, but it is a great choice for this dance. Now, I'm not going to say anything more about the video until I finish this post....
So, how are you all doing these days? After a very sunny October, we had a very cloudy beginning to November which has been a shame because you really want the sun to shine on the colorful leaves! It's been very warm but overcast, so very strange weather...we had zero rain the entire month of October, so we are hoping for rain which we are promised tomorrow!
Richard managed to get a few nice photos when the sun popped out!
See? I told you we have colorful leaves! Americans call it "Fall" and it really makes sense to me. That is a LOT of falling leaves!
We have a
I hope you could all see the video that I gave you at the beginning of this post! They cut the lights out during the dance and the audience was in complete darkness! When the lights came back, the male dancer was .... oh dear, I don't know technical dancing terms, he was twirling his partner around in the air! Amazing! How can anyone dance without having eyesight? I think the answer must be...very carefully and thoughtfully. And lots of counting steps, I imagine.
For me, this comedian on this dancing show....it is hopeful and uplifting and cheerful. Can't we all use those things just now?
And since my husband and I had only one child, you know I had to share this video, which is also the same comedian, Chris McCausland. For our one and only (also a Chris!) hope you think this is funny too!
I did see that dancing video - man that was just amazing. It goes to show you what determination is.
ReplyDeleteWe are not getting those pretty colored leaves here.
We need rain too.
Hey! It turned cool and windy today and we are promised rain tomorrow! Our leaves will get blown off now!
DeleteWe have a few hawks in our backyard. I love the way they soar around in large circles, not flapping their wings.
ReplyDeleteI went on a hike with a bird expert once. He told us that the raptors soar like that, it uses less energy. Flying must be tough!
DeleteThe hawk is indeed a very beautiful bird, and the colourful leaves are gorgeous. There are still some left here, but not as many as only a week or so ago.
ReplyDeleteDuring the Paralympics, a blind runner who comes from my area was interviewed on a local TV program. She said that it it's "only" her eyes that don't work - "my legs and my lungs are perfectly fine!" I can't remember now whether she got a medal or not, but with or without medal, she deserves our respect and even admiration, as does Chris McCausland.
Do you remember that I told you about a book "Crashing Through" by Robert Kurson? He was a blind man who ...well, you should just read the book! :-)
DeleteRichard took that photo sitting on the sofa in our living room, he just zoomed in with the camera!
Yes I had that 45 and remember Yoko singing. I think it was a poem by Christina Rosetti - memory hazy here. Thanks for the memories - Marguerite
ReplyDeleteYes! It is most certainly a poem by Christina Rosetti! I didn't mention it, but hoping that someone would. So, I thank you!
DeleteOh that's a marvelous video! I didn't catch on to his blindness until I read what you wrote. But I could tell the choreography was cleverly arranged to offset what must have been his difficulty in hoisting his partner up high -- the use of the table as her launching pad and the moment of complete darkness followed by the big "reveal" and fireworks.
ReplyDeleteYes, and that complete darkness...we forget that for someone who is blind, that is what they have. Although, our sight is not just with our eyes but with our perception. The book I mentioned above "Crashing Through" by Robert Kurson, you would really like it, I'm sure.
DeleteI can't imagine being blind at all. We have more sunny days here than not. It's so different from where I used to live in Ohio. There we had more cloudy days than sunny days. Maybe it's why I love Texas so!
ReplyDeleteI am so grateful I have good eyesight and can watch the beautiful sunsets too. Hope you enjoy fall. Love, ma
I am also thankful for my eyesight. Sunrises and sunsets are so gorgeous! Enjoy your Fall, dear MA! x
DeleteOne certainly would not have guessed that he was blind just from watching!
ReplyDeleteI know! He is a great dancer! I read that some in the UK didn't like it because they thought the judges should have scored them higher!
DeleteNow that dancing is absolutely amazing. I am lost for words. It truly is amazing what human beings can do. Wonderful clip, thanks!
ReplyDeleteFunny thing, we don't get that show here in the USA but I saw it online and had to share it! LOL!!
DeleteIt was a dramatic moment. As to your record it is one I do not have!
ReplyDeleteTHat song was a big hit here in the USA!
DeleteOh and the owl is magnificent. Not an easy picture to capture.
ReplyDeleteSorry I meant hawk but my fingers typed owl anyway.
ReplyDeleteNo worries! Funny thing, I typed "red tailed" hawk when in fact, it is a "red shouldered" hawk! I corrected that in my post. I HOPE I have it right now anyway!
DeleteBeautiful trees and the hawk is so watchful.
ReplyDeleteYes, that hawk really had his eye on something!
DeleteStrictly is normal Saturday night TV over here in the UK. Like the hawk photo and yet again it's another variety of bird new to me. ( obviously I've seen hawks before just not that type.)
ReplyDeleteWe don't get that show on TV here in the USA but when I saw that dance on online, I had to have it on my blog. If you notice, I corrected the name of the hawk. We hope to go this weekend to a bird of prey show. I will verify with them if I have this bird identified correctly!
DeleteOmg!!! He is absolutely adorable. Thanks for the 2 videos.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome! You came through as Anonymous. You can let me know if you like.
DeleteLet me know who you are, I mean to type.
DeleteWhat an amazing dance video - and clever choreography. You would not realize he had lost his sight, the dance was impeccable. Love your Autumn leaves, and the beautiful hawk. Isn't nature wonderful? Happy Autumn Kay.
ReplyDeleteHappy Autumn to you too! Just had my flu shot yesterday, now I feel like I've got the flu. Do you have stronger flu shots for senior citizens in Australia? We do! Take care!
ReplyDeleteI had to go back and watch the video a second time, Kay, Once I learned that the dancer was blind. I'm trying to imagine how the professional dancer taught him the moves ~ amazing. You always share the most inspiring things. And tell Richard that the hawk is gorgeous! Our niece Krista and her partner Dean just told our family that she was pregnant with her second child. I won't share your second video ~ lol. Actually it was their almost-three-year-old son who broke the news. He was waving ultra sound photos in a video. Boy is his world going to be rocked! Love and hugs to you!
ReplyDeleteHey Louise! Haha, better not tell your neice about that last video, she will find out about the second child! Guess what, I am a second child myself, my older sister was perfect, I was a wild child! I forgot to tell you how happy it made me to see your photos of the gneiss! We hope to see a bird of prey show at Arabia Mountain this weekend, besides seeing a red tailed hawk, we should see some nice gneiss at Arabia Mountain! We are fun people, we love rocks, birds, flowers and trees! xx
