For some reason, I started singing the song "Blue Bayou" this week. I must need a vacation. The song was written by the great songwriter/singer Roy Orbison. He had it on his 1963 album "In Dreams". It was an even bigger hit for Linda Rondstadt in 1977. You know I can sing along with her and sound just like her! (In MY Dreams!)
Sadly, Roy Orbison died in 1988 and Linda Ronstadt has Parkinson's disease and is now unable to sing. We still have Roy Orbison's songs to enjoy and we also have recordings of Linda Ronstadt's amazing voice. Hope you like this song too. Will you keep singing it like me? Let me know!
I was able to get away in June for a few nights and really enjoyed the hike into this gorge. Wish I could write a song about it!
"Blue Bayou" is the song that made me a Linda Ronstadt fan! I still prefer her version to Roy Orbison's (also great) because it's the first version I heard of the song.
ReplyDeleteA am a big fan of them both. Like you, I knew the Linda Ronstadt version first. Still like it a lot!
DeleteRoy Orbison and Linda Ronstadt are both great. Roy Orbison had such a sad life. Linda Ronstadt has been unable to sing because Parkinson's disease affected her vocal cords. So sad for both of them.
ReplyDeleteWell, at least they both did what they loved to do and we still have their music to always enjoy. Music is forever!
DeleteI must say I appreciate both these artists in equal measure: Ronstadt for her contributions --Yes, I first heard her fronting Stone Ponies-- to contemporary stylings and later to her work in stage musicals, mariachi and ranchera music; For Orbison, started listening when my elder sisters bought 45rpms in the '50s and still listen to him in the increasingly posthumous work of the Traveling Wilburys. We are privileged to live in a time of such magnificent talent.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment, George! Yes, I loved the Traveling Wilburys, we no longer have Tom Petty or George Harrison either, but thankfully, we still have their music.
DeleteLinda Ronstadt's voice was just amazing, I loved her albums.
Isn't it wonderful that we (as a species) have developed technologies that allow us to see and hear someone long after they are gone. It never ceases to amaze me.
ReplyDeleteCan we please see more pictures and learn more about your "gorgeous" hike? It looks just like my kind of place!
I didn't take too many photos on that trip to North Georgia. We had photos of my Dad's to go through and I guess, that was more on my mind. It was very pretty. YOu would love it.
DeleteLoved that song.
ReplyDeleteAnd certainly love that view of the gorge!
✨✨✨✨
The gorge was gorgeous! :0
DeleteIt's a beautiful song....But I am so sad that Ray Orbison is dead and Linda Ronstadt cannot sing now. But Librarian is right, it is amazing that we have technology to experience their art after they can no longer share it with us in person. That is the fact to focus on.
ReplyDeleteI tried to say that in my post but being as tired as I was, I guess that didn't come across in my writing. I do adore songwriters and good singers, I hope that comes across in my blog! :-)
DeleteWell, music is beautiful and it uplifts you. Happy singing.
ReplyDeleteI have a song for everything. And I mean everything.
DeleteSuch wonderful music, it is sad he is gone and she doesnLt sing any more. In my mind, they should still be young enough to be going strong!
ReplyDeleteI am the same way. I am startled to see someone who has aged, and then, I think...well, they have been around for many years!!
DeleteI'll never stop singing Blue Bayou. Yes, I also sound just like Linda Ronstadt in her younger days and I still look just like her.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
HA! Me too Janie. I also look JUST like her!
DeleteDo you remember the film "The Shawshank Redemption"? It was based on a short story by Stephen King. In his story, the poster of the pretty girl on the wall of the prison cell was Linda Ronstadt.
Now, I will never win any money for knowing that piece of trivia but I just told you this so maybe YOU will!
Let me know if you do! :-)
Love, Kay
Loved them both...time is surely marching on...
ReplyDeletehughugs
Time marches on ...and it is marching all over my face.
DeleteMany thanks for sharing both of these music videos :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a fabulous view of the gorge.
All the best Jan
Thank you, Jan! It was a great time and I do love music.
DeleteThose are two of my favourite singers. I adore both of those songs and will be singing them all day now.
ReplyDeleteHa ha made you sing! :-)
DeleteAnd it is a song that will always be beautiful...long into the future...
ReplyDeleteMUSIC is forever!
DeleteThat looks like a lovely hike. But Linda R. with Parkinsons? Oh my goodness....
ReplyDeleteYes, it is sad but Linda Ronstadt does have Parkinson's. It is a dreadful disease but one that many have to learn to live with...I know several men with it.
DeleteThe hike is gorgeous, it is one of the most beautiful spots in Georgia, I think.
