"Make A Chain, Guys"- Amazing Rescue
Amazing Rescue
"Make a chain, guys!"
Does anyone remember this line from the movie, "It's A Wonderful Life"? George Bailey, as a child, saved his brother Harry when Harry had fallen into an icy pond. He and his friends formed a chain by holding hands together they could reach Harry. They saved him!
On the news today, I thought of this when we were shown an amazing sight from this weekend in Panama City, Florida. EIGHTY people formed a chain to rescue a family who were caught in a dangerous riptide. (Two boys, aged 8 and 11 were first caught in the riptide and the rest of the family tried to rescue them but became trapped themselves.) The authorities wanted to wait for a boat but one woman saw the danger of this and shouted for a human chain. And some of those who came forward to be a part of the chain could not even swim!
All were saved! Let me repeat this...all were saved!
Best Story of the day.

Yes, I heard about this on the news! Bravo to that quick-thinking woman!
ReplyDeleteYes! I also saw it on the news here but I wasn't sure if it would be shown in other countries, you never know!
DeleteI loved that she did that and got so many others to help.
I just saw this in the news today. It really is so very awesome!
ReplyDeleteI think so!
DeleteHi Kay - amazing story ... and what incredible quick thinking. The beach at Eastbourne today is somewhat rough ... bad storm last night!! Cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteI have seen rough seas in Eastbourne! Once, Richard and I saw the sea splash up onto the road and deposit some of those stones on the roadway!
DeleteHope your weather was better today, Hilary!
We do indeed need each other. But we also need to be aware of the dangers of the sea (or other places, such as mountains etc.) so as not to put others in dangers because we have been doing something less than sensible. For instance, when I read of people that need a search party and rescue team sent after them because they went mountain hiking against the advice of locals, with a storm threatening or something, I get annoyed at the unreasonable tourists who have put the members of the moutnain watch in danger.
ReplyDeleteOf course, one should always exercise caution and use common sense but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't try to save those who are in danger. Thank God for the first responders! They do this kind of thing everyday.
DeleteI get your point but there will always be those who think that the rules don't apply to them. I am thinking of the unfortunate few who have ignored the signs at Stone Mountain and have fallen to their deaths.
It's a wonderful story! People can step up and do the most amazing things when they want to.
ReplyDeleteI know, I loved this story and thought this was worth sharing here just in case someone had missed it.
DeleteWhat a wonderful story, which unfortunately has not reached our media here. How brilliant of that woman to think of this solution. Thank you for sharing it with us.
ReplyDeleteOh good, I was able to share it with Australia!
DeleteThanks Patricia!
I saw that, it's a wonderful story! A lovely beach picture too. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteThank you Elisabeth!
DeleteI just read your post about your Grandmother's doily that you were able to find the pattern for it AND you share it with your readers. You are wonderful! Thank you!
Great story ! We need more like that. Reminds me we are all in this together.
ReplyDeleteWe DO need more like that!
DeleteInspiring, indeed! It's good to hear some good news for a change. ()Well, I do hear good news, but this was very dramatic news.)
ReplyDeleteVery often what makes the news is nothing very special to me...but this was worth a mention on my blog as this is just the kind of thing that I like to share!
DeleteI read about this in the news. It reinforces my faith in humans.
ReplyDeleteIf you saw the photo of the people standing in the water hand in hand, they looked like a net..."I will make you fishers of men", that reminded me of the words of Jesus.
DeleteI love a happy ending! So glad they were able to save this family. We all need to "make a chain" when we see someone who could use some help..or even just a smile. That can be contagious too! Have a good week!
ReplyDeleteYes, even a smile is contagious, creating a WAVE of good will! Ha, see how I did that?
DeleteHope you have a great week!
That is a really great story. There's nothing people can't do when they come together like that.
ReplyDeleteHey Mark! I agree and stories like this just make me happy.

ReplyDeleteI will never understand why people aren't taught about how to handle themselves if caught in a rip. Same here in this country....more education has to be out there among the public. People drown when they are caught in rips because they fight against the rip. Just go with it....eventually you will be brought back into land. They panic...tire themselves out...and drown...if they just floated not not fight it...they have a very good chance. They have none if they fight against it.
DeleteThe saying "go with the flow" really applies in this situation.
And I am speaking from experience...
From what I have read of it, it seems as if they were trying to swim parallel to the shore but for some reason they were not able to get out of it, not even the adults. If you are speaking from experience, that must mean that you have been caught in a riptide, that must have been so scary. Glad you made it out!
DeleteI hadn't heard about this but it's absolutely amazing and required some considerable bravery.
ReplyDeleteI think so and that is why I wanted to share it with you! Incredible what people can do when they pull together.
DeleteI heard about this rescue on the news. It reminds me of the good in so many people.
