Doctor, There's Something Wrong With My Mesentery (I Can Feel It In My Gut)

Don't worry folks! I am fine, that is just my funny way of telling you something that I have just learned...

The mesentery is now considered a separate organ in the human body, which means we now have a total of 79 organs instead of 78!The mesentery was thought to be a blob of collective membranes between the stomach and intestine, it looks a bit like a ruffly collar, and it was even drawn by Leonardo da Vinci in the 16th century!
Just this past week, a researcher in Ireland determined that it is a separate organ. The medical textbooks will have to be corrected to show this!  Now, the doctors will have to figure out exactly the important functions of this organ.
Just think, even today, the human body is still a mystery.

You may read more about this organ in your body that you didn't know that you had just  here.    (Suggestion...maybe we should go back and look at everything that DaVinci studied and research it a bit more, just a thought!)

No snow for us in our county today but it is very cold.  Sunny but cold.   I have had this song for you before, but it is worth hearing again...

Snow photo from 2014, we didn't get any south of Atlanta!  Poor kids here, I know they wanted to play in it.  (Maybe even me?)

  1. Well, I am just a little concerned as to how DaVinci KNEW that organ was in there...he certainly didn't have x-ray vision so now I will have black thoughts as to him slicing and dicing....lol Just what I needed - ONE MORE ORGAN! (and not a pipe organ either)
Pretty snow picture--I could send you lots more if you like. Hope you have a great weekend- xo Diana

    1. DaVinci, remember I told you that we share a birthday. He MUST be a genius! HA!
No thanks, you can KEEP your snow, Diana!
Hope your Packers win today, those fans deserve it that cold. x

  2. How interesting, now I want to know what it does. No snow here, but it's cold.

    1. The TV went on and on about us getting snow, but it was mostly north of Atlanta. Cold here too!

  3. The mesentery is something I see almost daily since I work in surgery. I didn't know it was named an actually organ though. I'll have to bring that up on Monday! We are super cold here and did get snow but that's not something new up here! I'm glad you're safe and warm and if you do get snow just enjoy it and be careful if driving or walking on it! My brother lives in McDonough and moved there to not have to deal with snow...guess he needs to head more south!

    1. I did think of you when I wrote this and hoped you would read my post! Isn't it interesting that the mesentery might be responsible for something that we don't even know about?
Your brother in McDonough is south of us and most likely he didn't get any snow either. He is probably glad!! :-)

  4. I read about the "discovery" of the mesentery too. Interesting. We have little snow on the ground but it is in the forecast a couple of days from now.

    1. Yes, they knew it was there but I don't think they thought it was very important, just some fatty bits holding things together. This kind of gives me hope in a way I can't explain.
I really don't mind not having the snow but I do feel sorry for the kids. Southern kids don't have snow that often!

  5. Fascinating discovery, just like when they figured out the purpose of the appendix. (It is the incubator for all of the good bacteria in our guts.)

No snow here, either, but cold enough to freeze your tootsies off!

    1. The human body is most amazingly made, we should be more careful how we treat it!
This weekend it struggled to make it above freezing but by Friday, they tell us it will be 70 degrees. Crazy!

  6. Very interesting to say the least! We just live north of Atlanta and only got a 1/4 of an inch followed by rain which made it as hard as a rock once it froze. My children were devastated given the fact that such a big deal was made about all the snow we were going to get. Have a great weekend!

    1. Hello likeschocolate! (I do too by the way!)
Our son lives in Marietta and he said the same, ice with just a bit of snow over it. The TV went crazy about how much snow we would get, didn't it? Oh well, maybe next time!
Wishing you a great weekend too and a great week ahead.
Thanks very much for your comment, lovely to meet you!

  7. I truly do learn something new every day. Glad you are ok and that you didn't get the snow that played havoc in the south. Hope you have a wonderful Sunday!

    1. This was one of the questions on the BBC quiz that I look at Friday, and I got it right even though I hadn't seen it on the news! (I did so well in school just by my GUT instinct...ha, ha, got that word "gut" in there!)

  9. Snow and very cold here, but my daughters and grandchildren went skiing in 3degrees yesterday and said it was glorious because there was no wind and lots of sun.

I had never heard that Christmas carol before and really like it.

I saw something on facebook about the mesentery. I still don't quite understand all it is doing. But we are indeed "fearfully and wonderfully made".

    1. My sister lives in Colorado and she said she had 20 inches of snow and it was 28 below zero on Saturday morning! That is too cold for me!
I am so glad to introduce you to the Christmas carol, you have made my day!!
I also don't understand the medical facts about the mesentery but I still marvel over it! :-)

  10. I'd not heard about this! Once more, dear Kay, you have let me learn something new on your blog.

It has been snowing quite a bit last night and today. Usually, I don't mind, but O.K. had to drive home in it so that he can be back at work tomorrow morning. He left a bit more than an hour ago and I do not expect to hear from him for at least another half hour, but I am praying for his safety.

    1. PS: I meant to comment on what you said there: "Just think, even today, the human body is still a mystery." That is so true! I have read a few books about neurobiology, and every one in that field who deserves to be called a scientist agrees on that the more we learn about the human brain, the more we realise there is still so much we DON'T know.

    2. Hope O.K. is okay in the snowy weather!
So much we don't know, that really applies to a lot of things really, doesn't it?
Glad to pass along all my medical knowledge...that makes me laugh just to type those words! HA!!

    1. OH, but it is freezing. We went for a walk yesterday and today and had to watch out for the ice. Still, the roads were clear here so glad we were able to get out and about. (North of Atlanta, it was a way different story, like it was in another state or something.)

  12. If we would know all and everything about a human body, menkind would already have found something against all these horrible diseases. I'm happy they don't stop researching areas we supposedly already know. Thanks for showing!

    1. I know, I am also glad that research is on going for cures for diseases.
Thanks very much for your comment here. I very much appreciate it!

  13. I'm not sure if we'll ever fully understand the human body but, to me, that's a good thing. It's nice there's always some new mystery we don't fully understand.

    1. It might be a good thing to admit we don't know everything but still, I want the medical folks to study everything possible to make us healthy! AND I would prefer that the drug companies were not so influential in the medical field...but that is a whole other story.

    1. Oh yes, and Leonardo DaVinci even has a MOVIE star named after him, so obviously that makes him important in this day and age! Sorry...I try very hard not to be sarcastic but it is hard for me sometimes. Thanks for your comment!

  15. It sounds like a lot of tripe to me...(it probably looks like tripe, too)! :)

    Very hot here!
