My friends, I know you won't believe this...but today, I got up in front of my co-workers and sang a song! This was at one of our company meetings and we were asked to perform a song or skit. I hadn't really planned on it but I just changed the words a bit of the song "Hello Dolly" and stood up and just sang my heart out, baby!
Isn't that a hoot! Apparently, it will be on YouTube, so I MIGHT let you know. GULP. You really don't have to see me on YouTube, just think of Barbra Streisand singing and you will know EXACTLY how I sounded. (Just kidding!) I sang another song too, just to make things a bit more interesting. Hey, by the time I finished, I think they were looking around for the hook.
I received some very nice compliments from my co workers.
It tickled me to hear, "you can really blow". Apparently, that is a good thing!
Have not had much time to see the Olympics but I do enjoy them, the bits that I have been able to see. I am thinking of Louis Zamperini, who was in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin and was on the same track team with Jesse Owens.
"We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline and effort." Jesse Owens
I can't wait to hear you sing. I like to sing too. The problem is that if you take the tune and lock it in a briefcase I still can't carry it!
ReplyDeleteHa, I have always heard "can't carry a tune in a bucket". Not that has ever been said about me, of course! LOL. I will let you know providing I don't look too goofy in the video, otherwise, I might keep mum about it! :-)
DeleteDying to hear you on YouTube!
ReplyDeleteStay tuned! Same BAT channel!
DeleteYour son's singing talent must come from somewhere! Remember us all when you're a YouTube star!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, our son can really sing! Thanks for remembering that here, Debra! Yes, let's say he gets that from me, only Richard is the one with the musical ability, but we will say it is from me anyway! :-)
DeleteWhat a brave soul you are, I'm betting you sounded great. Love to sing, but not in public.
ReplyDeleteI just felt a bit bad, they had a video camera all set up and not one person would get up to sing, so I felt I just had to! (Not that I have EVER done anything like it before, not once!!)
DeleteYou are so brave! I certainly hope it goes on you tube and we get to view/hear it.
ReplyDeleteI will let you know!
DeleteSounds like you work in a fun place...Good to relieve some stress of the job anyway!
ReplyDeleteIt was very early in the morning and to be honest, it was a bit stressful for everyone to get there so early but hey, that is corporate America for you! :-) Still, they did try to make it fun for us.
DeleteGood that you can stand up sing. I can't.
ReplyDeleteYes, but YOU can play the violin!!
DeleteYou were probably the best at the whole company!
ReplyDeleteWe have three other locations, so they will show the videos and they will be voted upon, so hey, I will find out if I am the best at the whole company!!
DeleteWill be watching for your announcement of the YouTube so we can see you "blow"! I've not heard that expression before, but I guess it makes sense if you have pipes, you're gonna blow!
ReplyDeleteFunny, the first person who told me that, I looked at them, but they were smiling and saying how good I was, that is the only way I knew it was a positive thing!
DeleteMy God! I run for the hills when I hear me singing...I certainly set the hills alive, but not in a good way. Everyone else heads for the hills when I sing, too!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving watching the Olympics. I've purposely set aside these two weeks...dedicated to watching as much as I can...and so far I'm succeeding in my plan!
I really do love the Olympics, winter or summer, I love them both!
DeleteI am not the best singer in the world, not by a long shot, only average at best, but I do know a lot of show tunes by heart and doggone it, I can change them up a bit at a moment's notice! :-)
Wow, brave of you to do that! Now, my colleagues (RJ, who is also my boss, and Ralf, who is also a long-time friend of my family) know me so well, they have heard me singing many times - just not at the office ;-)
ReplyDeleteAnd I wouldn't want my customers to hear me singing - they might never want to give me work ever again :-D
You might not know this about me but this was very much unlike me! Let's see, the last time I sang alone in front of a group of people was...NEVER! Oh well, first time for everything, I guess.
DeleteOh, I bet you are a good singer but perhaps it is your dancing that is your true talent? (Well, that and your writing.)
Well, Hello Dolly! Can't wait to hear you sing - how brave is that.
ReplyDeleteHa, ha! Thanks, Patricia! I will let you know in the future how this turns out! It would be nice to win a bit of money for it, I must admit!
DeleteI wish they'd stop changing the meaning of the word "blow". I guess in this context it means you could really throw your voice, like someone who "blows" on an instrument. The better they blow the louder and better the sound. Well done on doing something like that. I think if my boss asked me to do something like that I'd just walk out. He gets my humour though so it wouldn't be anything bad.
ReplyDeleteIt was funny to me as I had never heard that expression. One of them said, "You got pipes, you can really blow". Perhaps you could do a stand up comedy routine, that is really what I wish I could do, but that is even more terrifying to me than singing! I am funny in real life but I am as serious as a heart attack on my blog! :-)
DeleteWell done Kay! I hope we'll get to see that video.... :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sue! This really was a huge thing for me to to, much more than you could ever imagine. I have never even done karaoke, not even once. Stay tuned and i will have a link to it when I have the info. :-)
DeleteNow that is some meeting! Many times in the operating room you will hear singing..none of it very good! I've been asked many times to NOT sing! Ha! You're a brave soul but I'm betting you were awesome..can't wait to see the video! You Rock!
ReplyDeleteWhen I sang my second song and was handed a gift card, I said, "Is this so I won't sing another one?" HA!
DeleteI was so nervous, I was shaking but hey, I did it anyway, you know, "before the parade passes by!" xx
Hello,
ReplyDeleteThanks for you recent visit to my blog and catching and pointing out my typo :) Now people will know to ADD onions to their cheeseburger pie :)
That was brave of you to get up and sing, not an easy thing to do on the spur of the moment. I am sure you were as lovely as Barbra Streisand.
My husband usually has the Olympic games on; I don't sit down to watch them, but I see them in the background.
Have a happy weekend,
:)Hope
That was SO funny! It made me giggle so much first thing in the morning and that is always a good thing!
DeleteI love the Olympics but like you, only hear them in the background or see bits of them on the news.
Thanks for your comment! :-)
Oh! And thanks very much for becoming a new follower!
DeleteMuch appreciated!!
I've never heard the word "blow" used like that. The slang is changing all the time, I guess.
ReplyDeleteI know, I can hardly keep up! Have you heard on the traffic news the "east wall" and the "west wall" referring to the perimeter highways around Atlanta? They must have just started that here, never heard it before!
DeleteYour secret's out. We need to see the video We need to see the video We need to see the video (etc)
ReplyDeleteHa! If they have it on YouTube, I will let you know. MAYBE. :-)
DeleteWell done on the singing. Just watched the movie Unbroken last night and enjoyed it. Great survival story. I also really liked Noah, another one you recommended, as it was done in a very unusual style that appealed to me.
ReplyDeleteLouis Zamperini was an amazing guy with an incredible story. There was much more to his life than the film had time to do, so if you ever have a chance, read his first book "Devil At My Heels". That was the one that made me write a letter to the publisher in 2004.
DeleteGlad you liked both movies!
OH, and my singing, never done that before, not once!
You were so brave. It took all my courage to record the short clip of me singing 'singing in the rain' during 30 Days Wild and that was on my own in the garden! I bet you were far better than Babs! X
ReplyDeleteWait, did I miss that on your blog? I will go back and see, I love that song!
DeleteAnd you have reminded me, I MIGHT have sung "New York, New York" in the back garden at Richard's Aunt Marjorie in England and I MIGHT have asked her to join me kicking up my legs in a chorus line! Thank goodness, there was no YouTube around! LOL.
And better than BABS, ha...I wish! x
Glad you had such a lot of fun showing what you could do! It is always so rewarding when other people appreciate it. Look forward to Youtube!

ReplyDeleteOh honey, I still can't believe that I did that! I was shaking so much I can't believe anyone could hear me sing! :-)
