Does anyone else remember that they used this same song in the remake of "The Parent Trap", the one what was made with Lindsay Lohan? And please tell me that you have seen "The Glenn Miller Story" with Jimmy Stewart! If you haven't, then do so...immediately! You will thank me.
The brass section of this band was very good!
As the wedding ceremony was to beside a lake, there was a concern about rain and the recent cool weather we have had. Luckily, the weather cleared that morning and the rest of the day was gorgeous! (If you look closely at the photo above, you can see a tall heater just beside one of the white columns...they were not needed, it was very warm, just right for an outdoor wedding.)
Homemade jellies made by our Dad (Plum And Blackberry) were the wedding favors. And even though it was not a typical wedding tradition, Katy and Steve had a birthday cake for Daddy and the band played "Happy Birthday to You" and we all sang to him! I loved that she thought of this for her grandfather, it was just right.

Oh! And where are the photos of ME dancing? You won't see any of those, I have paid off all the blackmailers! HA!
What a lovely wedding and your dad sure looks good for 89.
ReplyDeleteIt was lovely! And today (april 24th) is my Dad's birthday! He had some health problems in January/February so I am happy he is better!
DeleteCongrats to the happy couple and happy birthday to your Dad! You're absolutely right -- who can NOT dance when "In the Mood" is played?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Debra!
DeleteI was just listening to White Wedding today. In The Mood is one of my favorites (I have so many). Another song that will get people up to dance is Old Time Rock And Roll.
ReplyDeleteWait a minute! Did you have a camera on me at that wedding? How did you know that I also had to dance to "Old Time Rock and Roll"? It's true!
DeleteEverybody "has" to dance to Old Time Rock and Roll and also to In The Mood. We cannot help ourselves. (And I am surprised you did not notice the camera.)
DeleteHa! I will have to look for you and your camera!
DeleteHow wonderful!!! Kay, I don't want to pressure you into showing us a picture of you dancing, but I'd love to know what you wore to the wedding.
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely that your Dad's birthday was included, I bet it touched him very much when everybody sang for/to him!
In my CD collection, I have several Glenn Miller albums. Steve and I love(d) this music, and went to concerts of the Glenn Miller Orchestra (an orchestra from the Netherlands who are officially allowed to carry the name) a few times.
The remake of "The Parent Trap" was on telly only two or three weeks ago, and I watched it again - I like Steve Martin :-)
On the picture with the wedding cake, I see the bride is wearing something on top of her beautiful dress. They make a gorgeous couple!
If you look at my posts from last June, you will see my dress! I wore the same dress that wore to the wedding that we attended in Hiawasee, when we went to Brasstown Bald, remember that?
DeleteMy Dad loved the birthday cake and everyone singing to him!
Your Steve had great taste in music but I know that you realize that too!
Not sure of which movie you mean...Dennis Quaid and Natasha Richardson was in the one that I mean. (Richard thinks you are thinking of Steve Martin in "Parenthood".) But I like Steve Martin too!
Well spotted that you noticed Katy with the matching light sweater over her wedding dress! It was really pretty and it just looked like she had changed into a different dress!
Your Dad is amazing Kay. I love that he makes jellies, and in such huge quantities, and just look at him dancing! Yes, remember the Glenn Miller story/movie, and In the Mood, a big favourite when I was little. Congratulations to the beautiful young couple, and on a lovely post.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Patricia! I loved the display of his jars of jelly at the wedding and I was happy that I was able to take that photo of him dancing, he was really moving!
DeleteKaty looks stunning in her dress. Major congratulations to the happy couple. Your dad looks like he's having the time of his life.
ReplyDeleteStunning, yes that is true! And our Dad did have a great time, he loves to be around people! Later in the evening, he enjoyed watching the younger ones doing the dances of today!
DeleteMany happy returns of the day to your father, and a long, happy, joyful life to your niece and her husband!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your well wishes, both for my Dad and for the newlyweds!
DeleteWhat a beautiful wedding and filled with many wonderful memories...the music and dancing and the jam!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and wonderful!
DeleteBeautiful wedding pictures. In the Mood will get me going too. Before we left California for Georgia we use to gp to our local casino that had Big Band Night (afternoons actually) once a week, with a great band and loads of retired folks who really knew how to dance to the music and finally got us to join in too.
ReplyDeleteBig Band Night (and afternoon would fit me just fine!) sounds like heaven!
DeleteOh, I just love that your dad had such a good time on that dance floor! Goes to show....age is just a number. And I thought the home-made jelly from granddaddy was a super idea.
ReplyDeleteOur Dad should give lessons in aging, I just wish I could be more like him!
DeleteWhat a joyful combined celebration! Wonderful photos and I have loved Glen Miller's music all my life! My parents played it often on our capehart and on the radio....But I wish I had seen a photo of you dancing, Kay!
ReplyDeleteOh my dear, the ERASE button was INVENTED for photos of me dancing!
DeleteWhat a great photo of your father dancing! I LOVE THAT! And I adore that your father's jams were the favors. The wedding looks so beautiful! XOXO
ReplyDeleteHey Audrey! You should visit Madison, GA sometime and let me know and we can visit Daddy together! (He lives very close to there!) Hope you are having a lovely Spring in NC! xx
DeleteI certainly remember "In the Mood'. Throughout my childhood and beyond, my mother regularly played it on our piano...I even did! I loved all that music of that era...I grew up with it. And yes, over the years, I have seen the movie starring James Stewart and June Allyson...a few times.
ReplyDeleteIn the early Seventies I was fortunate to be able to see The Glenn Miller Band live in concert one Saturday afternoon at Brisbane's Festival Hall. The band at that stage was led by Buddy DeFranco.
We were running a few minutes late...only a couple of minutes. As we entered the stadium the band had just started to play "Moonlight Serenade"...it was the first piece, starting off the concert. Tears immediately filled my eyes. It was a wonderful concert.
I also saw Benny Goodman live in concert in early 1973; again at Festival Hall. Peter Appleyard was the drummer during that concert tour. I could feel the spirit of Gene Krupa throughout the concert that night. Again, it, too, was a memorable, wonderful concert, and one I'm glad I got to attend. I still have Goodman's 1938 Carnegie Hall Concert LP amongst my collection of music.
When I was a teenager in the early 60s, my friends and I never missed the Friday night dances in Gympie. Whenever "In the Mood" started playing it was a race to see who was first to hit the dance floor! :)
Lovely photos one and all. :)
Oh, what a lovely comment you have left me here! I love your memories of the concerts you have seen/heard!
DeleteAnd your description of you as a teenager racing to see who would be the first to hit the dance floor, I absolutely LOVE that!
Hi Kay
ReplyDeleteA lovely couple in a lovely setting.
Do wish your father all the best for his birthday from all here. And H Snr sends his special thanks to your dad for the magazine he sent over with Richard.
Take care
Hello Henry!
DeleteI will most certainly give my Dad your regards and please do the same from us to your dear parents!
Dad's birthday is today (April 24th) and it is a beautiful sunny day!
What a beautiful bride! I used to dance, too, but David has arthritis so we ended our ballroom dance lessons.
ReplyDeleteI can't dance very well but that has never stopped me! :-)
DeleteWonderful! Any day that include a song by Glenn Miller is going to be a GOOD day! :) xoxox
ReplyDeleteHey Carol! I totally agree! xx
DeleteOh and I was expecting a YouTube video of you dancing! What a lovely wedding and your niece is so beautiful. I love the idea of homemade jam as wedding favours. x
ReplyDeleteOh yes, and I meant to say that in England, they would be called "jams" since what you call "jelly" is what we call "jello"! And I sincerely hope no such YouTube video exists!
DeleteC'mon, Richard has pictures of you dancing, let's see them!
ReplyDeleteHa, ha...never!
DeletePretty dress for a pretty lady. Your dad is amazing. All those jars of jam - did he really make them all himself? Very industrious but what a lovely idea. A belated "Happy Birthday" to you too. I am only just catching up with your blogs. That Birthday walk looks just beautiful - very jealous!
ReplyDeleteIsn't Katy pretty? And I think Dad made 225 jars of jelly (jam to you!) and he did it in the summer when it was very hot!
DeleteAnd no worries on late birthday wishes, I celebrate it all month long! The walk on my birthday really was pretty, my photos don't do it justice. xx
