Panola Mountain Outcrop Trail/Arabia Mountain



We are growing very fond of the outcrop trail at Panola Mountain.  The trail goes through some pines and then opens up onto hardwoods and then, you get to the rocky outcrop, where you can see lots of wildflowers.  There are a couple of decks with some benches and it is nice to sit and look up at the clouds and listen out for birds, sometimes being rewarded by the sight of a bird you have never seen before!  (Birdwatching tip: LISTEN for birds, chances are you will hear one before you see it, follow the sound, and then, you MIGHT see the bird!)

Okay, we decided we just had to see Arabia Mountain too!  Can you see the green plants coming up through this moss? They are the Yellow Daisies! We can't wait to see them bloom!

When I come out from under the pines and see this rock against the sky, it makes my heart sing!
These were in bloom all over the mountain.  They are...oh dear, I forgot, someone can tell me I am sure.  Poly-something curtissi, that is all I remember!  The bees and butterflies loved them!
This last photo is our son from Arabia Mountain from the end of June of last year.   It might look as if he is waving but he is reaching up to touch that tree.  Christopher will be actually performing in a few weeks at a club in Atlanta.  I hope to do a post about it, so look out for it!  Isn't that exciting?

    Love the picture of the butterfly pea and the green moss, it looks so soft! Well, actually, I love ALL the pictures in this post. The silhouette of Christopher next to the tree is a great picture, too.
    I can imagine how excited you are about him performing in a club! Will you and Richard be there?

      Milkwort, YES, thank you for telling me. The botanical name is Polygala curtissi, that was the name I was trying to remember!! Sometimes, I cannot for the life of me remember a wildflower's name but for some reason, can remember a portion of the botanical name. Odd, isn't it?

    I wish I could sit there too, it is so beautiful. I have just been out admiring our local wildflowers, and realising I can only name a handful of them. I need to get a British wildflower book to take with me on our walks.

      Robby left me a comment above and told me milkwort is the common name. (Polygala curtissi was what I was TRYING to remember!)
      It is our son, Christopher, who will be performing, but guess what, RICHARD is a great singer and songwriter and guitarist too, so I am thankful for your comment, it might give Richard the little push he needs!! :-)

    I'll get to the Outcrop Trail eventually... I'm rather OCD about finishing all the trails in one spot before I go to another, and I've just finished the ones created by the old Southerness golf course now Archery course...etc... (see my newest blog), and I'm sure I'll get to the ones on 155 after I travel the main trail to the spot where the three River Trails converge (MLK/Panola/Alexander Lake)

    The outcrop trail has the most beautiful wildflowers and magnificent trees!! If you must do the trails in order, you must do so, but don't get caught up in lists or doing things in order that you miss out on the beauty!!
    We love the trees and the wildflowers along the outcrop trail at Panola and we LOVE Alexander Lake, Richard had taken some fantastic photos there, if you look back at my blog.
    Hope to see you walking on one of "our" trails!

      How very astute of you! I think of Stone Mountain and Panola Mountain as masculine but Arabia Mountain is most certainly feminine. Why is that so? If I could tell you, I would be a better writer!
