It Was Twenty Years Ago Today

Christopher will be playing tonight in his band, The 7's!  At first the band was scheduled for June but the date that was finally settled upon was July 18, 2013.  When he gave me that date, it made me smile.  Twenty years ago, on July 18, 1993, Christopher was baptized!  Upon being told of this, Christopher paused and said, "Well, that's appropriate".

(Any Beatles fan should also recognize my title post name...it is the opening line from Sgt. Pepper!)

We attend St. Simon's Episcopal Church in Conyers, Georgia.  The picture above is of Christopher from last year on Mother's Day.  It is a small church with a tiny choir but the singing and the music is wonderful!  C. was asked to join the choir but since he was very often an acolyte, he never did, but that did not stop him from learning a great deal about music from church.  Elvis Presley, Whitney Houston, Aled Jones and Justin Hayward are all wonderful singers who first began singing in church, pretty good company! (I know there are many others, these are the first that came to mind.)

Own your talents and use them!  That is the advice that I remember reading once and I believe that is our business to find our God-Given gifts and to use them to our fullest ability.  Do you remember the movie, "Chariots of Fire"? Eric Liddell was the famous runner from Scotland and this line from the movie is one I will never forget: "God made me and he made me FAST and when I run, I feel his pleasure".  Now, I know it was a movie and he might not have said those exact words but the movie is based upon his true life and following what God has intended for you to do reminds me of this very much!
If anyone would like to read an excellent sermon which I am also reminded of, you may find it just here!

Hey!  I am very excited about tonight, can you possibly tell?  I hope to be able to have a link to his music very soon so that you might be able to hear him too.  Remember, own your talents and use them!  Peace of God be with you all!
Love,
Kay

    1. You are funny, you could never be thrown out of church for singing badly! Wait, there is a pretty good chance that I could!!

Someone should make a movie about Eric Liddell, not just about him in the Olympics. Any famous moviemakers out there reading my blog? Please pay attention!

  3. Even Elvis, considered the King of Rock 'n Roll, considered himself first and foremost a Gospel music singer, not a rocker.

Good luck, Christopher and The 7's!

    1. I love Elvis.
He didn't like being called the King, he always said that there was only ONE King! Imagine some of these famous singers saying that now and MEANING it!

Thanks for your well wishes! xx

    1. Thanks, Connie! I might have paraphrased it a bit, and I haven't seen that it was a direct quote so I didn't want to say that he said it unless I was sure.
I do try to be truthful in my blog!
Chariots of Fire is one of my favorite movies too. I love it- wonderful story, perfect casting and great locations, it is a must-see.

  7. I wish Chris well. I have a cousin who is a professional singer, but it seems to not be an easy way of life to maintain. In my family we are almost all "singers". My dad played the ukulele, and I grew up singing "Five Foot Two, Eyes of Blue"!

    3. If you can play a musical instrument, then you should! Those are lucky folks to hear you play. People make fun of ukes, I know, but I love them! I should live in Hawaii!! :-)
Thanks, I just did a research into ukleles in Hawaii.
      Interesting.

  12. Hope it all went well.

It was 46 years ago last month that the album was released = I remember it well. A friend bought it and we all went round to his house to lounge around his bedroom and listen to it at some ridiculous volume!

    1. Thanks, John!
I remember being a kid with no money and wishing so much I could buy it. I would stare at the album cover and was amazed at all the figures depicted on it. The 60's! What a time it was, can there be another decade like it?

C's concert went very well. I will do a post about it, after I get my wits about me again.

  14. Thanks very much for telling me of that song, I had never heard of it. I found a video of it with clips from Chariots of Fire and End of The Spear.

I hope that I will be able to put some of the songs that heard on Thursday night on here for you sometime soon! xx

  15. I am sure Christopher and the band played a great concert, Kay!

  16. I'm sure all went well for Christopher! He's a handsome young man too! I hate when someone says they don't have any talent..like God didn't give them anything good. I may not be able to sing, dance, paint, write, or be a rocket scientist...but I sure have the talent to appreciate everyone else!
