Some words just keep popping up for me and when they do, you know I have to share them with you. I like to read articles from "The Guardian". I have been informed that I have read 267 pieces, precisely. Since my brain is wired to go straight to song lyrics, you know that must have triggered those little grey cells to start singing a Beatles song! "When I'm Sixty-Four" was one of the first songs written by Paul McCartney when he was just a lad of 14! I wonder if he thinks 64 is so very old now! Ha ha! (No offense, Sir Paul, you know I LOVE you!) I found a very good cover version. Hope you like it as much as I do....
I said "ha ha" just above. That is usually meant to describe a laugh or a chuckle, but did you know it also means something regarding landscape design? I watched a TV series set in England recently, which was filmed at a stately home. One of the characters went outside the house into the front garden and suddenly, there was a low stone wall. "Hey!", (I shouted out to my poor husband who puts up with me with great patience), "What's that called again?". I had discovered the word a while back but couldn't think of it. Never mind, I did a search for it and found the word...it is called a "ha ha"! Originally built to keep out livestock, they were later incorporated into the landscape. It blended in such a way that when one came upon it, "ah ah" was the response, which became "ha ha".
That is it, precisely! Ha ha
We had some heavy clouds come in yesterday. It was thought that we might get snow, but we were advised that instead of the Metro Atlanta area getting snow, it would be the counties SOUTH of us that would see it! Sure enough this morning, we saw beautiful pictures of the snow on TV but none here. Never mind! Speaking of snow, anyone else see the story about the bridge in Hamburg, Germany about the tiny snow figures? The little snowmen/snowwomen were all along the side of the stone bridge and one mean person knocked them all down. The townspeople simply showed up and REBUILT them! I was astonished at all the different snow figures. Just delightful.
We have walked in all kinds of weather recently. It really is better to have sunshine, but the clouds and fog have a beauty all their own.Hello there, blue sky! So nice to see you!
Hope you are all doing well these days. Take care.
There was a saying in the days of flower power that has stuck with me through the years. When somebody has wronged you, you need to "sock it back with super love". That's precisely what the citizens of Hamburg have done on the bridge. Marvellous and of course it was Hamburg that gave The Beatles lift off.
ReplyDeleteYes indeed! Love wins! And the Beatles honed their skills in Hamburg, to be sure. Thanks very much for your comment, Yorkshire Pudding.
DeleteLove the community spirit of rebuilding the tiny snowpeople!
ReplyDeleteI did too. I thought it was wonderful.
DeleteThose tiny snowmen are adorable. What a great idea and how wonderful that people pitched in to replace them. I saw a truck with a line of little fuzzy ducks today. I am now thinking of my own tiny figures and where to put them.
ReplyDeleteBe sure to do just that and put it on your blog!
DeleteI just heard that song on the radio in the car. I think he doesn't like to talk about that song now lol.
ReplyDeleteThe little snowmen are popping up everywhere. And speaking of snow I would be glad to share.
Cathy
Oh, that's quite alright. I was only a bit sad about not having snow, but I couldn't help but think of all the kids hoping for it!
DeleteI love that song!
ReplyDeleteThe little snowmen are adorable and good for them for rebuilding.
We are in the middle of a major winter storm; extreme cold and lots of snow!
Oh bless you, I have seen the snowy scenes on TV. I am thankful I don't usually have to think about snow or ice.
DeleteI also love that song, Kay! Your photos are lovely!
ReplyDeleteHey, Linda! Thanks!
DeleteI think I watched that same stone wall TV show as I remember someone explaining it about a wall having that name... then immediately forgot about it again... or at least the name. Paul and John are number one and two on the billboard 100 number one hits but Max Martin is 3rd last time I looked and catching up fast. He certainly keeps a lower profile as most folk go... who!?
ReplyDeleteMax Martin, I think he is a songwriter for a lot of famous folks, Taylor Swift being one of them. You just have to know how to write catchy tunes!
DeleteCome on up to Ohio, we have snow for you! You can make tons of little snowmen! Those on the bridge are so cute and I just don't understand people who have to destroy things that bring others joy. I love that Beatle song! I thought of it when I turned 64. That was 9yrs ago! I still can't believe I'm this old! I'll just say a quick HA! here!
ReplyDeleteOf course, you will always love the Beatles since we are sure you must be related to one of them! (Starkey!) Snow really is very pretty but honestly, I am so old it just looks dangerous to me. LOL!
DeleteIt is funny how some words stick with us, and remind us of others, and then still more. Enjoy those blue skies!
ReplyDeleteI had a few other words like that I wanted to share with you, but of course, my mind doesn't hold much info these days.
DeleteBeautiful pictures !
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week !
Anna
Hey, thanks! Same is wished for you. x
DeleteWow, I never knew Paul McCartney wrote 64 at such a young age! He really is a musical genius as well as an all-round great guy. It seemed 64 was such a great age when we were young, and now I wish I could go back to 64! I am getting seriously old now... Meanwhile, the snow people in Hamburg are Gorgeous! How wonderful they built them right back up again, and what a sad person must be to want to destroy them. Hope they get help... xxx
ReplyDeleteYes! You know I agree with you that Sir Paul is a genius AND a really nice guy! Seems to me that there are two kinds of people in this world, those who build and those who destroy. How can we make people into builders? That is the question. Listen, I meant to tell you, on your last post, you showed us the camels that you got in Dubai and you added them to your Nativity set, I loved that! I meant to tell you! Also, can you please do a post about the fashions at the Golden Globes? Pretty please? I do so love your posts on pretty dresses! (The critics also told us about the men's fashions but honestly, I don't care. I just want to see the dresses!!)
DeleteI'd not heard about the snow story from Hamburg, but I did know what a Ha-Ha is - maybe not really surprising, seeing as I have visited many different stately homes in England over the last 20-odd years.
ReplyDeleteYes, walking is good in (nearly) all kinds of weathers, also at all times of day or night, and all year round - never boring, and even the same path walked over and over again is never exactly the same.
I am sure you have seen a lot more of these types of homes in England than I have. A lot of the info that I have is from watching my British TV shows and films! You walk so much more than I do. As an American, I am very much in the car most of the time. It is actually dangerous to walk beside the roads here. Almost all that you see on my blog are paved trails for walkers/bikers. We are lucky to have those fairly close to us!
DeleteAll is well, but a little cold..
ReplyDeleteYes, but it should be warmer in Florida! (Although, it was even cold there this past weekend.) Have fun!
