Hey! Do you all remember me writing about the discovery of King Richard III's bones being discovered in a car park in Leicester, England? Phillipa Langley wrote a book about her experiences in bringing this discovery about and it was made into a film, "The Lost King". I have written about it on my blog; you may find one post just here. (If you look at that one, there is a link to the post where I mentioned it before that one.)
Now, I have been reading all week about Richard Taylor, an employee of Leicester University. who sued Steve Coogan, who was the writer and producer of the film "The Lost King". The court ruled in Richard Taylor's favor, and Steve Coogan and his company must pay "substantial damages". Mr. Taylor objected to his portrayal in the film. Phillipa Langley was unable to attend any court proceedings due to ill health. To me, this does not seem fair. You may read the court ruling just here.
Even though Richard Taylor won in court, he was still not satisfied and felt that Steve Coogan owed him an apology. If you don't click on any other link here, I hope you will read the piece that Steve Coogan wrote in The Guardian. He will not apologize! I hope you can read the article just here. It is so well written that I wanted to share that with you!
Oh, and in other news from England...as I was getting my thoughts together about this post, I see that Prince Andrew has been stripped of his titles and must move out of the royal residence and will henceforth be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.
--------------------------------------------
Really do wish I could think properly to write this post today, but I am a bit under the weather. Normally, it is warm and sunny in October, but it has rained all week and the temps so cool, it has felt like wintertime. Gray skies all week with pouring rain, off and on. Why, I had to wear my gold sweatshirt to create my own sunshine! The sun peeped out for a few moments today and I could see the lovely yellow of the hickory tree in my yard! Never mind, we are promised sun tomorrow.
Look, the last of our summer veggies. If those green tomatoes don't ripen on the windowsill, they will become fried green tomatoes. You know I can make them.
These rain lilies bloom at the Monastery; these were just photographed last week or so. They come out after a rain. How I love flowers.
Take care, everyone. Hope this post makes some sort of sense!
Wow - I read the linked articles. Sounds not fair to me too.
ReplyDeleteSorry you aren't feeling great and hoping you are back on top of things soon.
I'm finishing the last of our tomatoes too. Sad to see them end.
It is Phillipa Langley that I am thinking about in all this. What does she say? Just as I couldn't think properly due to a slight illness, how much worse is it for someone with extreme illness? I really feel for her. Perhaps her health will improve and we will find out.
DeleteHi dear Kay, so sorry that 😢 you aren't feeling well. It rained 🌧 all day here in Montreal. Sending you warm hugs 🫂 🤗 ❤️
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda! Sending hugs right back to you in your lovely Montreal, rain or shine!
DeleteSame here with the cold weather. Finally had to put my heating on after it dipped down to 2c the last few days. November is usually a very cold month with the first snows falling or maybe it's just the shock after several months of above 20c summer weather. I've even got a furry hat on in bed tonight. Read a lot about the Steve Coogan film and the court ruling. P.A stripped of titles. Should have happened years ago and I bet there's many more rich and powerful people still not been named... and probably will never be named now.
ReplyDeleteI fear you may be right. The rich and powerful are ones in control of the world just now. That is how it appears to me, including the news we receive. Still, there is always the hope that justice and truth will prevail.Regarding, Steve Coogan- seems there is not much respect for him, in general. I have only seen him in the film about Laurel and Hardy. I really liked that. Oh, and one with penguins, thought that was sweet. Wonder if that general dislike of Mr Coogan might have colored the judge's decision? It is Phillipa Langley who I feel for. No one ever thinks about women. Just saying!
DeleteSo is that true about Andrew? I guess you would know. Sorry you are feeling under the weather - so am I - a cold. Weather here a little dark too. Love green tomatoes.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, i am sure you have seen it on the news now. It is the daughters I feel sorry for. They've done nothing wrong. And those green tomatoes will be fried up today!
DeleteI'm still battling vertigo. It's bummers to not be able to function properly.
ReplyDeleteOh yes. I've definitely heard about Andrew being stripped of all his titles including Prince and kicked out of his house too.
And yet... we still don't know about Trump. Hmmmm....
Exactly so, that topic is off limits amongst very powerful men. Listen I suffered from vertigo in 2024. It was awful. Turned out, crystals in my ear was out of whack. Before that was discovered, it was thought I might be having a stroke! It left me with balance issues. I could hardly walk in a parking lot that had any kind of slope.Hope yours improves. Mine did!
DeleteI did hear about the Lost King and now I'm really curious. I hope you feel 100% better soon, Kay.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kay! Hope you do too! Read my replies to comments above!
DeleteA post with bits of news about many things is an excellent post. May you get sunshine aplenty over the weekend and feel much better soon.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Hope you dont get too much rain from remains of hurricane.
DeleteSome time ago, I started watching the film about The Lost King but for some reason (I honestly can't remember why) never finished it; it still sits on my "continue to watch" list, so I will get back to it eventually.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you're not very well. I hope with more sunshine you'll be soon back to normal! I do the same as you with your gold sweatshirt - I create a contrast to grey skies by wearing yellow or other bright colours :-)
Let me know what you think once you watch it. I need to go back and watch it again, myself. Mr. Taylor was portrayed by Lee Ingleby, one of my favorite actors. Perhaps that colored my view of the character,it didn't seem disrespectful to me. But then, subtleties escape me so I am not one to judge. (Folks have to just tell me something, I cannot take hints.) Keep wearing your yellow and stay on the sunny side!
DeleteI remember all that about Richard III and some of the arguments on where he should be buried but it did not seem right Steve Cogan making a film, he is a comedian one not one of my favourites so as far as I concerned he got what he deserved. As for Andrew he has always come out on the wrong side, true someone like him should have known better but we only have word it happened she could have made it up, face it she was old enough to know better as well. Him being thrown out of the lodge he won’t be homeless like others on this country.
ReplyDeleteRead my replies above regarding "The Lost King". Have you seen the film? I thought it did the best it could with a true story. There were flights of fancy in it but that's movie making. Perhaps Andrew could move to California and live in a garden shed on his nephew's property. Andrew could change and become HANDY Andy and have a TV show with gardening tips, with all proceeds going to various charities, serial abuse survivors being one of them.
DeleteNot serial abuse but sexual abuse victims. Dang autocorrect!
DeleteI'm sorry you're under the weather. I hope you feel much better very soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks! The sun is out and I am so much better!!
DeleteWeather can affect our mood and health.
ReplyDeleteHope you will be better soon...
Not very cold here but we will have a rainy weekend...
Anna
We were in a drought so we needed the rain! However, a heavy rain after weeks of drought means that it brings down trees. We were listening to power tools yesterday of tree removals!
DeleteHope you feel better soon. I so dislike gloomy dark days. I miss the longer daylight hours for sure. Here in Texas we have had our first fall like weather just this week. Cold nights,, but warming up in the day. It seems our sun never stops shinning for the most part we don't get rain.
ReplyDeleteOctober is usually very sunny and warm for us too but that last week of October, our temps were 20 degrees cooler than normal!
DeleteThe moment I saw your header picture my brain screamed fried green tomatoes. My mouth waters.
ReplyDeleteI know, right? It occurred to me that is how fried green tomatoes came to be popular- folks using the last of the tomatoes before cold weather. They made do with what they had.
DeleteThe last of your summer veggies look good.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a happy new month of November.
Goodness, where does time go?!
All the best Jan
Wishing you a lovely month of November also! Take care. xx
DeleteI had an uncle who grew tomatoes, they had to grow their own back then as coal mining did not pay well. He gave me a green tomato just before it turned red, it was the best one I ever had.
ReplyDeleteNothing is better than a home grown tomato, I say. You know I'm right!
