Happy 4th/ Meteorite News/ Peace & Love

Happy 4th of July to everyone!

Of course, you might not have it as a holiday in your part of the world, but it is still the 4th of July!  Properly, it is "Independence Day" but how many use that phrase in the USA? Hardly anyone, we simply say it is the "4th of July"!

In Georgia, it was once against the law to have fireworks.  One had to drive over to Alabama and bring them back across the state line. Therefore, back in the day, there were only a few fireworks going off in backyards. Now?  It will sound like WW3 tonight! On the news I see that there have been several instances of fireworks going off in garages and causing severe injuries and even deaths. Common sense tells me that laws need to change with the use of fireworks. Still, common sense seems to have gone up in smoke....

Now, in my last post I told you about the meteorite that came down in the next county over, in Henry County.  A meteorite chaser (who knew there was such a thing?) visited that area and FOUND a piece of the actual meteorite!  There is a Science Museum in Cartersville, Georgia and they now have a piece of it! Look, let's see if I can show you a video....

There, isn't that something?  Also, there was an image of something called a "sprite" that was taken by NASA early this morning....

Once again - amazing!  I find this kind of natural phenomenon more interesting than fireworks any day of the week.

If you are looking for a film to watch, I would suggest one of my FAVORITES: "Yankee Doodle Dandy" with Jimmy Cagney.  It is so good!  You know I sing along with every song! If only I could dance like Jimmy Cagney too! Live long and prosper everyone.  (You know I can do my hand like Spock's!) OH! And please don't forget to say....

       "PEACE AND LOVE"

on July 7th at 12 noon in your part of the world! It is Ringo Starr's birthday, and he wants everyone in the world to do this. I will!

Male and female Eastern bluebirds. (Male is bright blue, of course.) Richard took this photo. One doesn't often see a bluebird from the back, isn't it lovely?

  2. I love "Yankee Doodle Dandy" with Jimmy Cagney too -- proof he was a man of many talents, not just someone who excelled at portraying gangsters or psychos! A song and dance man, who knew? There's also a famous photo of a young Jimmy Cagney in drag as a chorus girl and a very pretty one he made too!

    1. Jimmy Cagney was wonderful! His sister was in the film also and she was very pretty, so I am sure that Jimmy looked good as a girl too!

  3. Wow. A list of to-do's. Happy 4th. Fireworks scare the dog. I am going to look more closely at the meteor. I too can do Spock's hand and say, "Live long and prosper." A wonderful sentiment. I can sing all the songs from Yankee Doodle Dandy but I can't tap dance. I will certainly follow Ringo's wishes. That sprite was really something wasn't it? The picture of the bluebird makes me think of the old song "Gonna Find Me A Bluebird". Whew.

  4. I always learn something new or interesting from reading your blogs. I had no idea that meteors are just rocks. Would hate for one to fall on my roof. Happy 4th!

    1. I think that house in Henry County was very lucky that the bigger pieces must have fallen in a field close to them, rather than their roof!

  5. Happy 4th of July. It's happy 4th July here as well as I get my work pension payment on that date. I first saw Yankee Doodle Dandy when I was quite young and really enjoyed it but it was only years later watching Riverdance that I realised he was doing his own version of Irish dancing with only the legs moving at speed while holding his upper body static. We had a large meteorite here as well a few days ago in the middle of the night. Captured by modern technology in umpteen folks ring doorbell cameras. A flash as bright as daylight over Edinburgh as it passed above the city. No damage as far as I know.

    1. Oh, how I love Jimmy Cagney! And I am grateful to you for your comment as it made me look up his life story and I am happy to tell you that he had Irish ancestry from his mother and his father. AND he danced so much as a kid that he was called "Cellar Door Cagney" and he would dance on the slanted doors leading down to the cellar! (My grandfather had just such a slanted door, so I know just what it means!) I will look that up about your meteorite in Edinburgh! No damage, that is a good thing!

  7. As usual, I'm late to the party, but still: Happy Fourth of July!
You know I can do the Vulcan greeting, too :-D
    The bluebirds are so pretty.
Fireworks are best left in the hands of professionals. There will be a big one here in Ludwigsburg tonight, the "Musik-Feuerwerk". It is a large event in the palace grounds, tickets are not too expensive but the crowds keep me from going. The music is always to a different theme; one year we had film music, and the Harry Potter theme was particularly effective. Some classical music has written explicitly to accompany fireworks back in the day, and these are beautiful, too. One year it was Glam Rock - you wouldn't believe how well Marc Bolan's stuff goes with fireworks!

    1. Now, I think I would enjoy fireworks if in a controlled manner, if they are set in music and if I am seated in a beautiful area! Much better than having hooligans shooting them off in the cul de sac right in front of my house, and more right BEHIND my house and lots and lots just across the way from us in the next neighborhood over! So, I guess it just depends where you live. LOL

  12. Happy 4th July sorry its a tad late. Ring Starr are you a Beatles fan? Story time when I was about 14 the Beatles were playing in Oxford trouble there were a lot of fans expected and the same went fro the next station along from where I live where they were going to try to get them off. Well they decided to use our village station and all the local kids heard about it so we ran off to the station to see if we could get a glimpse of them., No such luck for me because just as I was getting near the station their Rolls were pulling off down the road which is all I saw of them. My best friend used to service the mowers at George Harrison mansion in Henley and his manager gave him the white album. Here is a couple of old bands I remember seeing back in the 1970's. The Police and Ian Dury and the Blockheads do they ring any bells

    1. Am I a Beatles fan? Is the Pope American? (HA HA!!) The answer it "YES!". I just looked and I have written about the Beatles at least 16 times on here! I am surprised it isn't more! I never saw the Beatles but I did see Paul McCartney on his Wings Over America Tour in the 1970's. AND Richard and I saw Ringo Starr in Nashville in 2023! (Our son got us tickets for our 40th wedding anniversary!) George Harrison has a special place in my heart, I love him! John Lennon, so clever and such a great singer and songwriter! So sad he was taken from us too soon. (And by someone from Georgia, which made it even more upsetting for me.) I know the Police but I never heard of Ian Dury and the Blockheads but I asked my husband and he does!

  13. I hope that you enjoyed the 4th, Kay! We sat out on our deck last night for a good 45 minutes watching many, many firework being set off along a high ridge that we can see for 180 Degrees. Sometimes 12 to 15 different spots were firing fireworks at the same time. I went to sleep to the sound of fireworks every second. It was something else! I remember seeing videos of the meteor falling. I really enjoyed the video about it; also the sprite. I didn't know about that phenomenon. Always something to learn. Richard's bluebirds photo is awesome! I can always feel your energy and love of life coming through your post. ❤️

    1. Oh, thank you! You are always so kind. I am glad you are able to enjoy fireworks in a civilized manner! If I am able to get to that science museum, I will do a post about it! They said the meteorite would be on display at the end of summer. And I am ready for the end of summer, it is too hot! Take care! x

  14. Jack and I watched Yankee Doodle Dandy on the 4th. It's a tradition I've done for many years. It's one of my favorite films and boy that man could dance! I get misty eyed at the end when he's marching and the tears are coming down his face. Love that. I saw the meteorite flying through the sky on the news and how cool to see a piece of it! I hope you had a great Independence Day celebration Kay!

    1. Hey YAYA! Hope you and Jack are having a great weekend! Did you know that Jimmy Cagney won his one and only Oscar for that film? Well deserved, I think! He also broke a rib during one of the dances but of course, he just kept on dancing! What a guy! x
