See the planets all lined up tonight!
Seven of the planets - Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune (along with the Moon!) will align in the night sky just after dusk today. (February 28th). Isn't that wonderful? This might be a bit later in other parts of the world, I think it is next week for Europe. Check out your part of the world to see when you may see this viewing!
Now, did this make anyone start singing a song? You know I did!
"When the moon is in the seventh house, and Jupiter aligns with Mars, Then peace will guide the planets, and love will steer the stars".
"Age of Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine In" was a huge hit in 1969. It spent six weeks at number one on the charts in the spring of that year. The song came from the musical "Hair". Anyone else remember this? The 5th Dimension was the group behind the hit. Two of the singers from that group, Billy Davis, Jr and Marilyn McCoo married and have been together for fifty years. Isn't that great?
Reading just a bit about this couple, they released an album in 2021, "Blackbird Lennon -McCartney Icons". Just as the title suggests, they are singing songs by the Beatles! Of course, you know that means that they have good taste. Just an aside here, I once saw them on a plane in the early 1980's. We had stopped in Las Vegas, just for a stopover and they got off the plane in Vegas! (I was on a plane headed to Reno. The only time I ever went there, and I got to see Lake Tahoe. I think that lake might be the prettiest lake ever- the clear, deep blue of that water! I have never forgotten it.)

Thanks! It was cloudy here a bit too but I think it was all the light from the state highway that made it difficult for us to see the planets. I think we saw at least two of them but that might just be my wishful thinking. When I was a kid we went to the beach and my Dad told me there was people living across the water. I looked very hard at the horizon and said, "I think I see them!" I kept my Daddy laughing all the time!

DeleteI was staying in a remote bothy recently with an amazing canopy of stars above at night. Unfortunately, it's normally so cold in Scotland, even in summer, I only lasted 5 minutes before rushing inside again to the fire. That's why I always prefer star watching outdoors in hot countries. Picking out the 7 planets here, even in March, would mean extending the misery well beyond comfort levels :o)
ReplyDeleteI totally understand! In fact, I started to put a note on this post to say to NOT go outside in the dark to see the planets unless you had a flashlight (you say "torch", I think) and to be sure and wear warm clothes if it was cold! You must be a mind reader! Comfort can also mean safety!

DeleteThere's too much light pollution here to see much besides the Moon, but I'm sure the line-up was amazing. The skies are always a delight to look at, aren't they.

DeleteYes, we did go outside on the night of the 28th, and saw most of them. We were lucky it was a clear night. My husband used an app on his phone to identify each one for us, but a couple were below the horizon. it was fun. I haven't done star-gazing for years.

DeleteThanks Kay! I am only commenting on blogs these days on my computer not my phone. I have gradually discovered the phone just doesn't "do" Blogger comments. If I just post in the regular way, it displays my comments as "Anonymous" so I thought i was doing the right thing by signing in each time. But now, I find that when I do this, my comments don't appear at all! But meanwhile I'll try and put it into my next post just so people know. DeleteI knew the planets were going to align and thought it was for my bday! A girl can wish, right? I loved that song since I was a teen and it's still a good listen! These days we really do need peace and love to guide our planet! Now I have that tune in my head! But that's OK!
