"Bring Me Sunshine"

If you know the British comedy duo of Morecombe & Wise, then you should recognize their theme song of "Bring Me Sunshine".  My English in-laws had a very nice couple who were their friends and neighbors who actually knew Eric Morecombe and Ernie Wise and they told us that were just as marvelous a pair as you could possibly imagine.  (I've mentioned before to you that I truly don't care how famous a person might be, it is the character that matters the most to me.) Now, I have found a video of them dancing to "Bring Me Sunshine" and I do hope that you will watch it and please, watch it all the way to the end!  (They remind me a bit of Laurel and Hardy, you all must know that I am big fan of them!)

The song was written in 1966 but it was adopted as the theme tune for "Morecombe & Wise" in 1969.  Willie Nelson did a version of it in late 1968 and it reached #16 in the Country Charts in 1969. (Imagine this passing for country music these days!) Of course, Willie Nelson has always been a songwriter, singer and musician who goes his own way. "Great music is great music" is his quote from his famous "Stardust" album from 1978.  (I might tell you more about that album on another post!)

For now, here is Willie singing the song....

There, you MUST be singing or humming or whistling it by now!

These days, I might be changing the lyrics a bit for Georgia and saying, "bring me SHADE"!  It is expected to be in the 90's this week and with humidity, it will feel like 107 degrees...and of course, that's measured in the shade! Still, we have had some very pretty days with temps in the low 80's and a cool breeze.  It has been very nice weather and most enjoyable for our flowers.  And the high temps mean that our birds will very much like their bird baths to be clean and ready for them. You know they will be!

A very wet Towhee!  And by the way, this bird is called a towhee, because that is the call that it makes...Tow-WHEEE".  And I am also happy to say that it also says..."Rich...ARD".  That is what it sounds like to us anyway!  It took years for us to learn that this particular bird had that call. We saw it on a branch of a tree at Panola Mountain State Park and it looked right at us and called Richard's name. It was like discovering gold!

On the topic of not knowing things...we have enjoyed this particular flower at Panola State Park (it blooms along one of the trails there) and we really are not sure of its name. (We think it is some type of native sunflower but other than that.... we love it all the same.)

  3. I love the image in my head of you and Richard walking out there, and coming across the bird looking at you and addressing Richard by name!
Will watch and listen to the videos later when I am at home. Keep cool and carry on 🙂

    1. We had heard the bird calling his name for many years but since we have so many bird visitors, we could never see which one it was! And I do hope you will watch and listen to the videos. I am sure your family in England would know Morecombe & Wise!

    2. Oh yes, they know them!
I can see why the dancing made you think of Laurel and Hardy. And I love the bits towards the end with a rather young and very curly Tom Jones! And that very last bit - how VERY "Muppets"!!

    3. Oh yes, that last bit...just a bit of a giggle since you don't expect it and you know no one was really hurt!😊

  4. Lovely to have heat!
Again good pictures, and I love the birds calling Richard.
Did he get that from you?

    1. I will send you some of this HEAT!
Hee hee...since Richard likes me to pronounce his name they way they do in England, (not "Rich-URD") the way we do here, I usually just call him "darling", dropping the "g", of course!)
And when I do say "Richard", I sound like Mrs. Bucket! (Mrs. Bu-KAY!!)

    2. Yes! HA HA!
You should hear me in the car, "Mind the pedestrian, RIch-ARD". I can sound very much like her!

  5. We're to get in the 90's here this week which is very unusual for us. Thankfully I do get a lot of shade here, but I should really think about getting a bird bath. Take care and stay cool. Hope you find some shade. Love, ma

    1. Hey! You stay cool too, it's supposed to be brutal heat all over the country. I feel for folks who work outside.
And get a bird bath! Your birds will be so happy. xx

  6. I'm sure they were influenced by Laurel and Hardy. Stan Laurel spent his formative years in Glasgow and in England appearing and learning his craft in music halls there before going to America and Morecambe and wise and a straight man and a bumbling one act before developing their own style for British television. A good documentary here is 'Morecambe and Wise Forever' featuring never before seen behind the scenes footage of holidays, touring, and getting their big break on TV with family, and friends revealing how they spent their free time relaxing. Ernie and his wife had small boat to holiday in, Eric liked making home movies of his family, house and garden. Another good doc you would like is Good ol' Freda about the Beatles fan mail secretary in Liverpool during the height of their fame. A cracking tribute both to them and her loyalty to the group. You might get to see both of them on BBC or ITV I player catch up if you can get that in USA which allows you to see previously screened British programmes for free.

    1. I knew that about Stan Laurel in Scotland and England in the music halls. I think he also performed with Charlie Chaplin! (I think he was a genius too.) I am able to see a good bit of British shows on TV now and you know I see as many as I can!
I will most certainly look out for the documentary on Morecombe & Wise! AND also on the and only BEATLES!!
Back to Laurel & Hardy, Oliver Hardy was from Georgia, which I am sure you know but there is a Laurel & Hardy Museum which is about a 2 hour drive from me here in Georgia and I am longing to go see it! Will do a post about it if I ever get there!

  8. Great song, Kay! My barbershop chorus in Connecticut sang it as part of repertoire and our annual show. We had a great arrangement which followed pretty closely with this video. Thank you for sharing.

  10. The video had me laughing and smiling! If everyone sang that song every day there would be less violence in the world!
