Now the green blade riseth from the buried grain, Wheat that in dark earth many days has lain; Love lives again, that with the dead has been: Love is come again, like wheat that springeth green. In the grave they laid him, love whom men had slain, Thinking that never he would wake again. Laid in the earth like grain that sleeps unseen: Love is come again, like wheat that springeth green, Forth he came at Easter, like the risen grain, He that for three days in the grave had lain. Quick from the dead my risen Lord is seen: Love is come again, like wheat that springeth green. When our hearts are wintry, grieving, or in pain, Thy touch can call us back to life again; Fields of our hearts that dead and bare have been: Love is come again, like wheat that springeth green. |
I've not heard this song previously...it is unknown by me, but let's hope the present pain and grieving soon fades away and disappears...and love, understanding, and patience return...
ReplyDeleteI can hardly watch the news these days. I just saw this from Steve Winwood and really liked it. I always loved this hymn, it sounds beautiful on the organ also.
DeleteNow, I do agree with your comment and I thank you for it! Peace.
I love the song. And the poem.
ReplyDeleteIt is a hymn. https://www.umcdiscipleship.org/resources/history-of-hymns-now-the-green-blade-riseth
DeleteThere, you may read that if you like!
The green blade is rising very fast here at the moment. The sunniest, hottest, driest spring on record in the UK and the grass is waist high in places due to council covid 19 lock downs.
ReplyDeleteI meant to have this song on here earlier but I am always a bit late these days! We have had a much cooler spring and we have some bulbs that are just now coming up!
DeleteIs this song to do with the fact that it was Pentecost when you wrote the post?
ReplyDeleteThis past Sunday was Pentecost or as they say in the UK, "Whitsunday". This song was most associated with Easter. One of the songs that I like on Pentecost is "Spirit of the Living God, Fall Afresh on Me". There really is a song for everything!
DeleteNice to see your comment here, Graham! I loved the photo card that you made of Pat's picture. It is on my mantel now and I am enjoying it!
Very beautiful and different from the songs that you usually share...Thank you, Kay. I see you like many, many kinds of music....
ReplyDeleteOh yes! I have written of my love for hymns before! I really do think that I could write a book about the background of hymns. In fact, my son told me that he saw this post and he was grateful for being raised in the Episcopal church with the great music.
DeleteMany thanks for sharing this Kay.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your previous post and video too :)
All the best Jan
