Here is my gift to you...a video of the Nicholas Brothers!
Do you ever feel like dancing? Like you just want to jump all over the place? No? Well, how about watching two dancers do just that!
You're welcome!
This clip is from the film "Stormy Weather" with Cab Calloway. (You could go through the beginning bit with Cab Calloway, but listen to him too! I think he's great! ) The Nicholas Brothers were considered to be the greatest tap dancers of their day. They combined tap dancing with acrobatics and it was called "flash dancing".
Fred Astaire once told the brothers that this dance number was the greatest movie musical sequence he had ever seen. Another dancer you might have heard of, Mikhail Baryshniknov, said that the brothers were the most amazing dancers he had ever seen in his life.
So, does this make you want to get up and dance? Go on, you know you want to! (Just be careful of your grand piano, everyone has one, right?)
Dance like no one is watching! (Because they're not watching, they're checking their phones.)
This time last year, I gave someone a present...and I re-used some paper that that had been on my own birthday gift. When you have a present, tie it up with love!
Sending love to you all with my dancing video! Enjoy!
Kay, I love tap dancing. I always like little Shirley Temple's dancing too. But the brothers are the the tops. Blessings to you, xoxo, love Susie
ReplyDeleteHey Susie! I bet you can tap dance too! :-)
DeleteDo you have any idea how much I enjoyed that? The splits on the stairs were a bit scary. I used to like Hines, Hines. and Dad too.
ReplyDeleteI thought the same about the splits on the stairs!
DeleteCome on you two, I bet you BOTH could do those splits on the stairs! Do you want to try?
DeleteThese dancers are amazing, no one else has ever done those splits on the stairs like that, I am sure.
ReplyDeleteI know! That is why I had to show you! :-) Love it!
DeleteWow! No matter how often i see their performances, it astounds me all the same.
ReplyDeleteWhen I watched this, I was just amazed. I have seen them before but not this particular scene, just amazing!
DeleteGoodness - these men were FIT!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd everybody, absolutely everybody on the stage in that video, was great and utterly professional. Imagine having to play the trombone with two mad tap dancers jumping about and across in front of you!
Kay, this was great, I absolutely loved it. Nobody can watch this and feel gloomy, can they!
SO HAPPY you love it too! I knew you would, you love great dancing! AND they were most certainly fit and everyone professionals for sure!
DeleteI don't know if you know, but my Dad was a wonderful dancer. One of the pictures that they showed on a slide show at the funeral was him dancing at my niece's wedding when he was 89. I took the photo! (He knew I would.)
OMG, the leg muscles those two must have had! They deserve every bit of praise received from other dancing greats.
ReplyDeleteYou know I think so too!
DeleteAlthough I have heard flash dancing, I didn't recognize the names of those famous dancers. I may not always be seen dancing on the outside, but very often my heart is dancing to the beat of the music.
ReplyDeleteLove and hugs,
'ma'
I am always singing and dancing on the INSIDE! :-)
DeletePicking myself up off the floor now...Hahaaaa….
ReplyDeletehughugs
Always be careful dancing down the stairs! :-)
DeleteI've long loved this routine... Thanks for the great big smile!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! Greatness always deserves praise!
DeleteLike C.C and N.B. Seen one on Y.T. recently where they jump 15feet off a balcony/staircase straight into the splits landing onto a solid floor- the only dancers to do that move. Must have taken some punishment on their legs.
ReplyDeleteIt's like the old joke...How do you get to Carnegie Hall?
DeletePRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!
I love watching tap dancing! And other sorts of dancing as well. This is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteBesides being a frustrated artist and singer, I am also a frustrated dancer! My talents are so very hidden!
DeleteBest music! Great dancing! In my fantasy mind, I think - "I can do that" in reality, my body says - "are you nuts!"
ReplyDeleteHello Pam! Thanks for your visit!
DeleteMe too, I feel so graceful IN MY MIND! ;-)
Fantastic! My late brother and I were brought up with music playing a major role in our lives. We were introduced to it at very early ages. (Actually, I'm presently in the middle of writing an article about that)!
ReplyDeleteOur mother and grandmother introduced us to all genres...and dance was included. Mum was a very good dancer, having spent years of tuition when she was a kid....ballet and tap.
Great clip, Kay. :)
Ballet and tap...most of my friends took those classes. I only could dream of that!
DeleteLook forward to your post!
Lee, my lemon tree has tiny lemons! xx
I love it!Dance like no one is watching!
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
So glad you liked this too! Dance always!
DeleteOh- I love that film, Kay. Those guys were absolutely amazing. I can remember watching them with my dad and he said "they put on quite a show" which was high praise coming from him. lol
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this here- many of the younger generation will never see them. xo Diana
Your Dad sounds like mine! He once watched the musical, Scrooge with us and at the end, my sister's and I were dancing all over the place. Wasn't that great, Daddy? His one word reply: good. That spoke volumes though! I miss him so much.
DeleteSomeone needs to make a movie about The Nicholas Brothers...if there is a film the young generations might pay attention!
