The pink blossoms on this tree against a bright blue sky caught my eye recently. Love the colors!
(Now, you all know that "chips" are what we call "french fries" here in America. And potato chips are "crisps" in England.)
Anyone can do this you know, if you have a well known tune, then just put your own words to it. Of course, you can't "steal" a tune, this would be just for your own enjoyment! You are all writing your own song lyrics all the time, right? You know I am!
Japanese magnolias are beautiful. Sometimes i think of them as tulip trees, the flowers look a bit like tulips.
ReplyDeleteEvery once in so often i do come up with a silly lyric to a well known tune.
We have always called them tulip trees here in Georgia, my Daddy always did, so I do too.
DeleteI have a lot of silly lyrics in my head, and some of them I have made up myself. x
It will be some time before the big magnolia trees in my street (I think I posted pictures of them on my blog a year or so ago) start blooming, but oh, what a joy they are to look at!
ReplyDeleteHere on German TV, there has also come up an advert recently that uses "Que Sera", but with Doris Day's voice to a new musical mix. The advert is for a Samsung smart phone.
Just looked up the ad that you mentioned, and of course, I found it! It is very much like one of the modern ads of today, pushing all the correct PC buttons and one that appeals to young people. I really like the more hopeful "I hope there's chips" ad! :-)
DeleteMagnolias already? Wow! Not in Chicago, that’s for sure.
ReplyDeleteI always thought they meant potato chips when they’d say the Beatles like fish and chips. Crisps is probably a better word for potato chips.
Fish & chips in England are the very best thing you can imagine!! I have had a photo of them on my blog before, I might have to do a post about them all by themselves!
DeleteCrisps...by the way, I remember all the different flavor ones from the 1980's in England, but we are just now getting them here in the USA!
In Canada, we use the word "chips" to mean french fries too, but we also use the term "french fries." Plus we call potato chips "chips," never "crisps." So the meaning really depends on the context for us. The first time I went to the USA and ordered a sandwich and chips, I was surprised to get potato chips, not fries.
ReplyDeleteI can beat that! I was with my sister once and I ordered a sandwich (this was here in the USA) and it said it came with CHIPS and I was very disappointed when I got potato chips with it!! I forgot where I was I guess! LOL!
DeleteOh my, that picture is beautiful So nice to see that Spring is here for some, hopefully it will be winging it's way north soon. One of my favorite songs that has had its play on words is On top of Spaghetti, All covered with cheese. I lost my poor meat ball when somebody sneezed! Hope you got your chips!
ReplyDeleteLove and hugs,
'ma'
Why, we must think JUST ALIKE! I love that song and I even started to mention it here on this post!! "I lost my poor meatball when somebody sneezed, it rolled cross the table and then, out the door, and then my poor meatball, it rolled out the door!" I will always think that is funny!
DeleteAnd I will never give up hope for chips...or anything else for that matter!
Oh, I messed up..It rolled cross the table and then cross the floor! And the n my poor meatball, it rolled out the door! That poor meatball, I can't even get its journey right! LOL!
DeleteVery funny ad! You come up with the most original posts, Kay!
ReplyDelete"Original", that is one way to describe them! Thanks, Nan, you are sweet. x
DeleteWhat a cute ;little commercial. I wonder what Doris Day thinks about it.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking for Doris Day (and I really do love her, I have written about her before), I think she would love it! After all, she had a big hit with it but she didn't write the song! The songwriters...oh dear, here comes another post, maybe!
DeleteHaha! We change the lyrics all the time, strangely it's mostly about our weird cats!
ReplyDeleteIt's a funny thing to do...I remember an episode of "The Little Rascals" where Alfalfa used the tune from "Yankee Doodle Dandy" and sang "Happy Birthday" to Darla Hood's father. I use that all the time!
DeleteLOL- I do that all the time!!!! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteYou know I do!
DeleteWhat a beautiful header, Kay, and how creative you are...My magnolia had its growth very distorted by the much too close Norway Spruce and after that fell down it has had more problems. I think it will be loaded with flowers this year, all on one side, and the tree may be lost! I hope not, but am full of fear for it.
ReplyDeleteDon't be fearful for it but be hopeful! Life tries very hard, that is one thing I have learned from living things. xx
DeleteThank you, Kay! You are so right about that.
DeleteInteresting to read about British slang. And, yes, parodies can be fun.
ReplyDeleteI very much admire the parodies by "Weird" Al, but I think he should be called "Brilliant" Al!
DeleteHow can it be that chips/French fries (we use both terms in Britain these days) and crisps (which you call potato chips) and which are all potato cause so much confusion. When I stayed/lived in New Zealand (Scots 'stay' English 'live' in a place) I initially was confused because crisps (UK) are chips or chippies but chips/French fries were, wait for it, potato chips (chups) to differentiate them from kumera chips. For the record in NZ chips are pronounce chups as in chups and fush. Clear? If not don't worry I'm probably confused by now.
ReplyDeleteHey Graham! You will have to excuse me, I am still stuck in the 80's in England and America!😊 if I ever get to New Zealand, I will know how to ask for chips!
DeletePink and blue, what a pretty combination and great picture. In Australia we are being driven crazy by the coming Federal election, and an ad for one party which parodies a popular song. Even our grandson has been singing it to us. Meanwhile, we have French Fries, which are chips, and crisps which are chips, not crisps, but we all get our potato ration whatever we say!
ReplyDeleteAs long as we get our potato ration...I am with you! :-)
DeleteI have to admit I prefer the thicker UK chips. Always feel cheated with French Fries. Wonder if that was the French Canadian influence over in the USA or something else that you guys picked them over the thicker variety or is that just in burger chains?
ReplyDeleteWell, you must know I prefer the chips in England too! (Sorry, I should say Britain when I answer you, but since I have never been anywhere other London and south of there, I hope you understand!)
DeleteYou know the little fries that they give you at McDonald's? I am wondering if they have them that way because they are faster to cook in the fryers...Americans must be impatient!
Beautiful blossoms....beauty reflecting the beauty of nature...a gift we must cherish...and never take for granted....the beauty of life - of love...cherished memories made....
ReplyDeleteCherished memories, of course, I have been mourning the passing of my Dad, so I thank you for reminding of those! xx
DeleteThose blossoms are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Hello Jan, Just now seeing your comment. All the best to you also. x
