Elvis Lives! At least as long as we have his music and men who like to impersonate him! I really like this latest ad from Apple with Elvis impersonators from around the globe communicating with each other on Group Facetime on their IPhones. The ad is called "A Little Company.". Instead of making fun of those who imitate Elvis (which usually happens) this ad presents them in a very respectful manner. Anybody else enjoy this ad as much as I do?
You will never guess...I looked this up and the ad is from Dougal Wilson, a director of commercials and music videos and he is from England! (Always goes back to England for me, somehow.) His bio says that he was born in Heswall, England. I had no idea where that could be so I looked that up too...it is a town on the Wirral, near Liverpool! One of my blogging friends lives in Wirral, so that tickled me to discover this! (John and brother Graham, I hope y'all see this post!) Dougal Wilson There, if you click on his name, it will take you to his site "Furlined" and once there, you will see this Elvis ad along with an ad with children singing "Bohemian Rhapsody." Make SURE you go to see it, you will thank me! It is amazing too! There are other ads there also and they are all simply little masterpieces of film. I hope you will enjoy them as much as I do. (The Ikea ghosts...so funny!)
In case anyone wants to hear the real Elvis sing this song, I have it for you too. "There's Always Me". It was originally recorded on June 17, 1961 on his album, "Something for Everybody".
P.S. I have been known for singing "Happy Birthday" like Elvis, so Elvis impersonators are dear to me! If no one ever wants to imitate you, Elvis...there's always me!
Elvis lives!
I do love the ad. I have heard the children singing Bohemian Rhapsody too. All in fun.
ReplyDeleteWish we had more ads like these on TV here. I love something this well done, even a TV commercial.
DeleteElvis is a favorite. Grandpa really liked Elvis and used to say, "I gave up a career as a background singer for Elvis so I could go to medical school!"
ReplyDeleteHey! Did he really sing background for Elvis? That's awesome. (Of course, not as awesome as becoming a doctor, but still.)
DeleteGoodness, Kay, these little films are BRILLIANT!!! (I was about to say "bloody brilliant" but just about managed to stop myself!)
ReplyDeleteHey Meike! So glad you liked them too. I was tickled to look up this ad and see the talent behind it.
DeleteElvis never truly died if people keep his legacy alive.
ReplyDeleteMusic lives forever. Unfortunately, what passes for music in my neighborhood lives longer than that. :-)
DeleteHow cute ! Yes, Elvis lives in his music! I love his songs. I didn't see the commercial but hope to some time in the future. I should have realized that there are people that make a living making commercials, but some how never thought about the good that they do. Hope you have a fantastic Friday!
ReplyDeleteI am sure you will see the ad on TV. There is a 30 second version, but I gave you the full minute on my post! xx
DeleteI enjoyed the Elvis impersonators but that Dougal Wilson blew me away with his amazing ads.
ReplyDeleteSo happy you liked them too! I am such a film nut, I love to see little snippets like this!
DeleteHaven't seen this Elvis ad before but it's great! I've seen his kids' Bohemian Rhapsody one already -- pure genius!
ReplyDeleteLucky you, you got the Bohemian Rhapsody ad! I am a bit of nut about film. Our son majored in film at college, I must be a BIT of an influence on him! LOL!
DeleteWell I hadn't seen the Apple advert but it was enjoyable. I clicked on the Wilson link because I love Bohemian Rhapsody (who doesn't?) and you were correct. It was well worthwhile. I don't know whether that is this year's Christmas John Lewis advert because I hadn't seen it either but it was outstanding.
ReplyDeleteI noticed that he did a lot of ads for John Lewis and I know that those are usually the kind that pulls on your heartstrings, so to speak. Glad that you liked them too! AND the director is from your neck of the woods, also. You must forgive me, little things like this amuse me.
DeleteI grew up listening to Elvis. Then, I traveled to Thailand to work and fell in love with Bach. Never going back to Elvis. Lol.
ReplyDeleteWhat?! I love Bach too!
DeleteI grew up WATCHING Elvis in those quite terrible movies that he made in the 1960's but I loved them, they were great for kids. Mu aunt who was 8 years older than me was the big Elvis fan, I only began to love his voice when I was an adult.
I'll return the UK- USA music thing by batting the ball back over to your side Kay :) Have you heard of 'Larkin Poe' ? really good young singer songwriters/ musicians from Georgia I heard recently. I do like Elvis though.
ReplyDeleteHey! I had not heard of them, so I looked them up. There are really 3 sisters (which is great, I am one of 3 myself, the middle weird one, of course.) and they used to call themselves the Lovell Sisters (duh, that is their last name.) but one of the sisters left, and they now call themselves Larkin Poe, which is the name of their great, great, great, great grandfather. I think that's great! HA HA! They are good musicians AND singers, and like you say, from Atlanta, GA!
DeleteI bet they like Elvis too!
Once again, thanks for telling me about them!
Elvis is far too comfortable in the building to ever leave it! :)
ReplyDeleteI love that story behind "Elvis has left the building." It truly came about because after Elvis would perform, the crowds would clap and clap for another encore. Those in charge would say, "He's not HERE, he has LEFT the building!" Wish I could have seen him perform!
DeleteAs you probably know, Elvis works down the local chip shop...
ReplyDeleteNow Mike, we all know that he lives beside a quiet lake in Alabama. x
DeleteThe English really love and respect Elvis to this day. As big Elvis fans my wife and I enjoy seeing his legacy live on. This commercial was really well done.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment! Really glad you took the time to write this. Much respect to you, happy to find fellow Elvis fans. Thanks again.
