What A Wonderful World-Happy Birthday!

Here's a story for you...a couple goes on at camping trip to   Cumberland Island, Georgia.  They return to their home in the Atlanta area and find a small tree frog in their camping gear. (A squirrel tree frog.)  Concerned for the welfare of the little creature, they contacted AWARE (Atlanta Wild Animal Rescue) and through this great organization, it was arranged for the frog to be driven to St. Mary's, Georgia and with special permission to be boarded on the ferry to Cumberland Island where the frog was happily released. Now, this was done on the Friday after Thanksgiving, so I can only guess at the traffic on that drive.  Well done, volunteers!  There, isn't that a great story?  All of that for that tiny frog? YES! And I am happy to tell you this story.  (The frog that I have pictured is a native frog in the Atlanta area...it is a tree frog on my front porch.)

(By the way, I lived on Point Peter Road in St. Mary's when I was a teenager.  Looking it up on Google maps, I am amazed at how closely we lived to Cumberland Island!  If only my family had owned a boat!)

Also, did you see that the creator of Spongebob Square Pants died? His name was Stephen Hillenberg, he died of ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease, I always think of it) and he was only 57.  So sad but how wonderful that he created such well known and beloved characters that will live forever.  I really liked the Spongebob Squarepants movie...and I LOVED the part where Spongebob says that he has a bubble of optimism that always rises to the surface.  ALWAYS.

Saving a frog and a bubble of optimism, this reminds me of our son who hopefully had a wonderful birthday today!  Go Hawks!  (C. writes about Atlanta Hawks... HE is a great writer!)  The Hawks are going for three wins in a row! Will they make it? Christopher wrote about it just here!

  1. You are right, Kay - when we keep looking (and we usually do not even have to look far and wide), we find that this IS a wonderful world in so many ways.
A belated Happy Birthday to Christopher! Will you be celebrating together on the weekend?

  2. Rather crazy they would do that for a frog, yet I've seen so many people in government or voters refuse to help others in need.

    1. The nice thing, these were VOLUNTEERS who drove through all that Thanksgiving traffic with a frog in their back seat, no government involved.

  3. Well the frog story is wonderfully uplifting. Which is more than can be said for the terrible Lou Gehrig'disease (which in the UK is more commonly known as MND or Motor Neurone Disease).

    1. I know, it is a terrible disease but I am thankful that Mr. Hillenberg left us with such positive characters, we are in need of them, especially for the kids.

  5. What a happy, positive post! (except for the Lou Gehrig's disease, of course) -- Blogworld needs more of those. The Louis Armstrong is always great.

    1. If you get the chance, you should just look up a few episodes of the TV show on YouTube, they are so doggone funny! Funny for kids, of course, but on a level that adults will laugh too, like Toy Story, one of my favorite movies. Always a positive message, which I love.

  8. Hope you son had an awesome birthday. I saw that about Spongebob Squarepants..partially. I saw he passed at a young age, but didn't realize it was Lou Gehrig's Disease. I used to find all kinds of creepy crawling things in my room when I was kid...why? Because my older collect them, and everytime they got out of the container, they ended up in my room. I think that's why I'm a big hands off with things that are slimy, or jump, etc. I would have needed someone else to come get the frog and do something with it. I always wonder if he did it purposely to see be afraid.

    1. Our son was always fond of all living things and since we live near a small creek, we often had frogs in our yard as he was growing up. I am not afraid of frogs...but snakes always give me pause, I try not to fear them, but I just can't help it!

  10. Yes, a wonderful world indeed! A good frog rescue story. I blogged about a day a frog jumped onto my grandson Stephen - https://thickethouse.wordpress.com/2017/06/08/what-so-fair-as-a-day-in-june/ Your son is so talented. I knew some people who wanted to be sports writers but no one who actually did. There must be a lot of competition. Belated Happy Birthday to Christopher. And, so sorry about the Spongebob Squarepants creator's death. Stephen Hillenberg. Too young, and that is not a good way to go.

  12. Thanks mom! As expected, the Hawks did not win, but that bubbling optimism for a bright future remains. Also, a story about a frog is the perfect gift for my birthday, as you know how I feel about our amphibious friends. Love you!

    2. Dear Christopher,
When I saw the story about the frog, I knew I had to have that on the post for your birthday! And now I am thinking of the "Everybody Loves Raymond" episode where the lady loved frogs and ate that fly! You know the one, that will always be funny to me!
Bubbling optimism, you must promise me that you will have it ALWAYS.
My blogging friends are the BEST. Glad you saw their best wishes for you. xx

She used to bring them inside the house without anyone knowing until I would find them after she left for home! Happy birthday to your sweet son and "Wonderful World" is one of my favorite songs..it always makes me smile!
