Quick, before the night is over I have to tell you that tonight is International Observe the Moon Night. Yes, here is some info for you...
International Observe the Moon Night is a worldwide celebration of lunar science and exploration held annually since 2010. One day each year, everyone on Earth is invited to observe and learn about the Moon together, and to celebrate the cultural and personal connections we all have with our nearest neighbor.
Our nearest neighbor, have you ever thought of the moon that way? I think that is lovely. I have been thinking of the moon recently. The film "First Man" about Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon, is in theaters now. On BBC , I read that a new book will be released on Oct. 25th about the space landing in 1968 - "Mission Moon 3D: A New Perspective on the Space Race. It is a 3D book written by David Eicher and Brian May and will have 3D glasses included with it. Now, you are thinking...Brian May, isn't that the name of the guitarist from Queen? Yes, one and the same. Brian May is also an astrophysicist and has had a great fascination with the moon landing since he was a boy. (He even met Neil Armstrong once.) You may read the same article from the BBC just here. I urge you to read it, it is fascinating.
(Researching a bit more, I see that Brian May will have a 3D book about Queen which will come out in November. Perfect timing, of course, since the film about "Bohemian Rhapsody" will premiere the same month.)
May I just say, if you happen to read this post AFTER the official "International Observe The Moon Night", do not despair! Look up at the night sky and observe the moon all year long. Once you notice the beauty of it, you will always see it. You don't have to have a special night for it.
Must have a moon song for you. "Shine On Harvest Moon", you say? Good choice.
Forgot to mention, looking at children's books recently, I saw one that I fell in love with just from the title..."If You Decide To Go To The Moon" by Faith McNulty and Steven Kellogg. I really do judge books by the cover. So sue me!
We have clouds tonight, but i did see the moon last night. It's always worth stopping and observing.

Hubby saw the movie, First Man, and enjoyed it. I remember seeing the moon walk on TV in Thailand in 1969.

DeleteI am so ready for the new Queen movie. It seems like it's been in the works for centuries. All the members of Queen are educated people but I believe Brian May is the only one with a doctorate.

DeleteBoth movies on my list to see (when on Netflix) I can't get my hubby in a theater. I can't see in 3D one more fascinating thing about losing vision in one eye. 3D does not work for me haha. Ah well......we have snow.........hugs Janice

ReplyDeleteAs for the moon, I always look at the night sky and send a friendly greeting up to our nearest neighbour when I see him :-) I am also waiting for Orion to appear above my region; maybe it has not yet been dark enough when I was looking.

WE too always look for the moon at night. Because we do not have street lights here it is the only light that shines out there. Except the stars.

DeleteI rarely get a chance to see the moon, but I do appreciate it's beauty. Isn't it wonderful how we all see the same moon, no matter where we are. Makes me feel we are all much closer than we think.

ReplyDeleteNo worries! Just look at the sky and notice the full moon, or whether it is waxing or waning! (That photo is a full moon from another month, when I was able to hold the camera steady enough to get that shot!)

DeleteI just LOVE the moon! I always have and it has fascinated me since I was a child. My oldest boy was afraid of the dark and we told him the moon was God's flashlight to light the way...and when it was just a sliver of moon that God was shining it for another child somewhere else that was more scared than he was. It was like magic! lol

Have you noticed the face on the moon changes expressions from time to time- sometimes happy, sometimes sad- must be something to do with the shadows or the way the light is perceived.
ReplyDeleteI can't always see the moon that clearly, I live in an area with quite a bit of light. When I AM able to see it, I am thrilled to see more detail of the surface and it does seem to differ to me too.

There is a lot of buzz going around about "Bohemian Rhapsody", too. It should be great. I'm a huge fan of both the band and Freddie. Freddie Mercury ....Wow! The Nureyev of Rock!

Yesterday I pre-ordered the DVD of the Cooper/Gaga "Star Is Born" - the DVD is being released 27th January, 2019....so I thought I'd get in early. I can hardly wait for it to arrive....but I will have to curb my enthusiasm! :)
