You MUST see how closely the actors resemble the men that they have been cast to portray. You may see them just here!
There, isn't that amazing! What perfect casting, don't you think so too?
Now, the film is centered on the very last part of their careers, when they both toured the U. K and Ireland in 1953. Their love of performing and their genuine fondness for each other was evident on this tour and their audiences were greatly supportive.
On a personal note, since I call myself Georgia Girl With An English Heart, you must know that I would be a fan of Laurel and Hardy! Stan Laurel being English and Oliver Hardy as a native of Georgia, so you know I love them! Why, I think I even have a photo of them at the bottom of my blog, if you care to look. Also, I have had a video on here of them dancing. I know you want to see it again! (That is Chill Wills and The Avalon Boys who are doing the singing...I love the song! You might recognize the one seated, the one who is doing the yodeling...that is Chill Wills! He was in a lot of Westerns during the 1960's. His voice was even used for Francis, the talking mule!)
Folks in England must really like Laurel & Hardy a lot. I photographed this at a garden near Eastbourne! Can't wait to see this film! I read that the director feels that Laurel and Hardy are his "heroes", so I am sure that he will do a good job by them.
I'm happy to hear this! You always share the best news!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Nan! I was pleased to learn of it and hoped others would be too!
DeleteI can picture both actors in their roles. And I loved Chill Wills!
ReplyDeleteI know! Chill Wills! I recognized him even as a young man in the video! I watched too much TV as a kid! LOL!
DeleteGood casting choices
ReplyDeleteI think so too!
DeleteSteve LOVED Stan and Ollie! I knew their films as a kid but discovered how good they actually were only much later, when watching them again with Steve.
ReplyDeleteAnd how that must have delighted him to share that love with you! xx
DeleteI can totally see Steve Coogan in that role (but do not know the other actor). Laurel and Hardy were Sooooo famous when I was a kid, and we often saw their movies. Great idea to make a film and I wonder why it took them so long??
ReplyDeleteThe American actor is quite well known in America, in mostly low brow comedies, which means I don't really know him either! (What a snob I am, LOL!) My son knows him, of course! :-)
DeleteGreat news. I will definitely want to see this........There is another nice dance sequence of theirs on YouTube, from Sons of the Desert, I think. They were such talented people.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I know that one too! So funny! If we can't have clean humor these days, then let's go back and find some!
DeleteI agree -- perfect casting! And both are very good actors, so this bodes well for a quality film!
ReplyDeleteI was so tickled to see that photo of the actors made up as Laurel and Hardy. I just hope that the actor who plays Oliver Hardy will be as light on his feet!
DeleteI didn't realize that Laurel and Hardy had English ties. I do learn something new every day. It would be hard to find someone to play them so hope they do a good job. Names from the past like theirs should be remembered.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, Stan Laurel was from England and was Charlie Chaplin's understudy! He was a fascinating man! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stan_Laurel
DeleteThere, just reading his info on Wikipedia should make your day!
Boy did this take me back. When I was a kid in Key West there was a trailer park that once a week showed free outdoor movies for all to see. You only had to bring your own chair. Most of the movies were Laurel and Hardy with some Marx brothers and a few Abbott and Costello. Don't know what the park manager got for his efforts but it was appreciated. My boyfriend and I never missed.
ReplyDeleteWill look for the movie. Thanks for the heads up.
Hey! I love the Marx Brothers (walk this way) and Abbott and Costello too!
DeleteWHO'S ON FIRST? LOL!
WE need laughter!
I watched Laurel and Hardy on TV during the 1950s. So entertaining. Guaranteed that you will laugh.
ReplyDeleteI watched them on TV in the 60's. I watched WAY too much TV in the 60's! LOL!
DeleteOh gosh! I loved those old shows! We need a few good laughs these days!
ReplyDeleteHey! So happy to see your comment here. We crave a good laugh as much as we crave CUTE! LOL!
DeleteThey are childhood favorites, how nice that they will be portrayed in film by people who will do it well!
ReplyDeleteYou never know about a film until you see it, but I have high hopes for this one. It will also make young people know Laurel and Hardy, so glad about that.
DeleteThose are good casting choices. I'm sure I'll be interested in the movie.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Hey Janie! I am a bit of a nut about films, I have such strong opinions about them, Hollywood should call me. :-)
DeleteI took two film classes in college. Both professors said that I should write the movie descriptions on the backs of video boxes (no DVDs yet) because I was good at summing up movies. I'm still waiting to find that job.
DeleteOur son's major in college was Film! Too bad I wasn't crazy about computers, I could have influenced him into some high paying career!☺ My dream job would be at TCM!
DeleteHi Kay - gosh didn't know that statue existed in Eastbourne ... and we used to love watching Laurel and Hardy - so I'll be along to watch the movie. Cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteOh, that was just something that someone had in their front garden, it was at a place near Eastbourne, where Richard's cousin lives. If they didn't want anyone to take photos of it, they shouldn't have it so close to the road! But it really is a very good little likeness of them, don't you think?
DeleteI love laurel and hardy too such wonderful sight comics.
ReplyDeletethank you for your visit to my blog
Cathy
Hey! Just goes to show this film should be a hit. A lot of people love them now and they will have new fans when the movie comes out. Thanks for your visit, Cathy! ☺
DeleteShould be good. Although English by birth not a lot of people realise Stan Laurel actually grew up in Glasgow during his teenage years and learned his Music Hall skills there as his father owned one in the city. "Aye, see you Jimmy."
ReplyDeleteYou know I know about him growing up in Scotland! I did not know about Jimmy Murphy though, so thanks for that info! There is a book about it, will have to add that one to my book list. 👍 thanks!
DeleteOh, how I love Francis the Talking Mule when I was a little girl. Never did my older brother and I miss a Francis picture (as we called movies back then)at the Saturday afternoon matinees.
ReplyDeleteMy brother, typical of big brothers, used to tease me mercilessly because my middle name is "Frances"! :)
I look forward to the Laurel& Hardy bio....I loved Abbott & Costello, too.
Your brothers sound just like mine!
DeleteDid you know who did the voice of Francis The Talking Mule? Now you do! LOL!
My sister and would go to see movies when we were kids at the theatre in Winder. We saw all the Elvis movies and all the scary movies. We called it "the show". That is what my Dad called it, so that is what we called it. x
