Life has been just work, work, work lately but...Richard and I were invited to a garden party recently. The theme was "Alice In Wonderland" and it felt like Wonderland to me! The garden was beautiful-peaceful and serene. Such a pleasant spot!
One of the guests MADE these cookies. Aren't they exquisite?
Another guest made this centerpiece for the table! It was so large that it was decided to display it outside. Look at the detail!
Take time to smell the roses. You know I did!
What did we bring to the party? Richard wanted to take a bottle of Pimm's but they were sold out! Never mind, he found the most amazing bottle of french wine with the bottom of the bottle shaped like a rose. I am not kidding! Cote des Roses (Check it out...see if you love the bottle as much as I do!) Oh! And just to make sure we had something from England, we also brought along a bottle of Stone's Ginger Wine. Cheers!
(Neither one of us had a drink while we were there, I think we only drank water. We are such a fun couple! HA! No, you can't drink and drive and it's not fair to drink when your husband can't, so...)
Now, you can see from this tea towel that Lewis Carroll (real name Charles Dodgson) was born in Daresbury in Cheshire but as you know, he lived most of his life in Oxford. However, he spent the last twenty summers of his life in Eastbourne in East Sussex! (I might have mentioned Eastbourne to you in my past posts!)
There is the most wonderful book by Jenny Woolf entitled "The Mystery Of Lewis Carroll". I highly recommend it!
Jenny Woolf is also a blogging friend and she told me that he loved the walk up to Beachy Head and that he treasured the view.
I love that she shared that with me!
Take care, everyone! I have about one million things I want to post about, so I hope I can keep all of it on my mind until I have time to do so.
What a lovely party! And those cookies. They are amazing!
ReplyDeleteIt was lovely! And at first, no one wanted to eat the cookies, we all took photos of them but guess what, the cookies tasted as good as they looked! (I ate the one that said, "EAT ME", I am very good at directions. LOL! Also, they let us take one home, and I chose the blue and white dress one which I shared with my Dad!)
DeleteWhat a great theme for a garden party! I WANT ONE OF THOSE COOKIES!
ReplyDeleteI know and the cookies tasted as good as they looked!
DeleteThat does look like it was a lovely party, and i want to be able to decorate cookies that well!
ReplyDeleteThe cookies were a work of art! If I made them, I would only want people to admire them!
DeleteI wouldn't have minded to come along to that party - the cookies are incredible, and the centerpiece is fantastic! The garden alone would have been well worth following the invitation.
ReplyDeleteYou match the centerpiece perfectly with your dress or top!
Sorry to hear your life seems to consist of work, work and more work at the moment. I hope less busy times will follow, and that you do not work yourself to the point of sickness.
Well spotted, my bright pink top was the same color as the pink roses! You would have loved the party, such nice people in beautiful surroundings!
DeleteAnd thanks, I am hopeful that things will improve!
Thanks for sharing your pictures of that lovely party! Loved the cookies. Those took a lot of time. And the centerpiece - great picture of you, by the way. No basketball head. LOL
ReplyDeleteKay! So nice to see your comment here! And you know I love you that you don't think I have a basketball head! It is softened by the dark garage door behind me!
DeleteI know you read a lot of books, you should really look up that book I told you about by Jenny Woolf, it is so good!
That was a wonderful party ! They really went all out for it and I love that center piece. How nice to be outdoors and enjoying it all !
ReplyDeleteIt was so nice and we were lucky with the weather that day, rain was all around us but it stayed away!
DeleteWhat a wonderful theme for a party and how well it was carried out! My sil's nephew just finished his M.D. degree and a cousin made cookies for the party which were similar to the ones you pictured, but with a doctor's shirt and a stethoscope around the neck. I don't know how to make that frosting that you flow on. But such creativity for your party! My oldest daughter is named Alice and I've always given her different editions of Alice in Wonderland and wanted to read that Lewis Carroll book when I first heard of it. But then, it slipped my mind. (As too much does!) You've inspired me to look for it now. I hope your life is less "work, work, work" now that summer is here.
ReplyDeleteLewis Carroll wrote Alice In Wonderland in 1865! Isn't that amazing? So, looks like the book will be around for a while yet! LOL! Thanks for your well wishes. The summer won't make any difference to my work, just means that it will be very hot! :-)
DeleteThose cookies are absolute works of art. Though they look delicious, I doubt I would've been able to destroy such incredible craftsmanship...
ReplyDeleteI couldn't eat them at first either but then...everyone else was so...
DeleteYou would have loved them! Thanks for commenting!
Wonderful pictures, wonderful party and wonderful Flowers. Have a Happy Day.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sandra! I appreciate your comment here! Hope you have a happy day!
DeleteWhere on earth do people get the creativity to make those beautiful items? I am in awa.
ReplyDeleteSo many talented people gathered at this one party, not sure if I should have been there! HA!
DeleteI'm a big fan of children's books and Alice is right up there near the top. Like the themed cookies and centrepiece exhibits.
ReplyDeleteHey Bob (and ALEX!),
DeleteI know I am the SAME! I adore children's books!
You would have enjoyed the garden and the company too!
What a wonderful theme for a garden party. Alice will live on forever...such a wonderful story.
ReplyDeleteThe cookies are brilliant....time and talent...so clever.
I know that you could appreciate the cookies! YOU are such a great baker and cook!
DeleteI used to be, Kay...re the cooking. Those days are long gone, smothered in the mists of time. :)
DeleteEven though I post recipes on my blog, these days I don't cook as much as I once did. No more dinner or luncheon parties catered for and hosted by me...no more cooking in restaurants etc.
Nowadays, simple is the way I go. Sometimes just a toasted cheese sandwich or two does me. :)
Yes, but I just bet that it is a very GOOD toasted cheese sandwich! Besides, I find that simple cooking is really, really good. In fact, I even enjoy children's cookbooks!
DeleteWhat super fun and how well organised it all looks.
ReplyDeleteJOHN! So lovely to see your comment here! That means your eyes are better and that is such good news!
DeleteYou would have loved this party, it wasn't broiling hot yet!
Thank you for mentioning my book! And what an amazing party. I'm so impressed that anyone could make those biscuits, guess they must be professionally trained? Great centrepiece. One of the nice things about an Alice party is that there are so many things you can put into it, from clocks to hearts to chess pieces. I went to an event last year that even offered flamingo croquet with flamingo shaped croquet mallets! :)
ReplyDeleteHey Jenny! Of course, I had to mention your great book! Yes! Those cookies or biscuits as you call them in England, were so perfect! Two women made them, a mother and daughter and they did tell me that they do this for a living! You should, I told them!
DeleteI hope that everyone invites you to their Alice In Wonderland events! :-)
Glad I guessed right about the two women :) Yes, I've been invited to many an Alice event - last February I invited someone to an Alice themed tea in London myself. I have another blog which I don't write much in but I did blog about that tea here .....it was so beautifully done! http://www.jabberwock.co.uk/blog/index.php?itemid=1643
DeleteAre you sure you only drank water...?
ReplyDeleteHa! Yes, only water. Anything stronger, I would have cleared that display off that table and been dancing on it!
DeleteOh my gosh! I can’t get over those cookies! They are exquisite. I can just imagine what a great time you had.
ReplyDeleteHey Kay! Everyone marveled over the cookies as you would expect! The hosts of this party are very creative people and their friends are all so talented.
DeleteNice of them to invite me. LOL!☺
Thanks for your visit Kay. Your friend's party must have been fun. Love the cookies, the centrepiece and that French bottle of wine is just so elegant.
ReplyDeleteHello Sami!
DeleteI just found your blog and I really loved your post about becoming an Australian citizen! I will become your newest follower. :-)
Nice photos. I don't drink at all anymore, but David limits himself to 2 drinks maximum at a party or 3 drinks per week.
ReplyDeleteI don't really care for it all these days. I really liked that pretty wine bottle though, I hope our hosts did also!
DeleteI once walked down Liverpool's main business street dressed as The Mad Hatter. Do you think I'd have got an invite to the party?
ReplyDeleteHow funny! You would have been perfect at the party!
