On the underside of this butterfly on the hindwing you can see the most beautiful orange pattern! This photo was taken through our glass window but the others were taken beside a lake on the wonderful native bush, the buttonbush!
Did you know in the USA many of the states have an official butterfly? In Georgia, it is the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail. ( I took the photo of the one above when I was at home during my lunchtime. It is a female also...once again because of the blue. ) Want to see the list of all the state butterflies? Sure you do! You may see the list AND their photos right here!)
Have you ever noticed what people type into a search engine to get to your blog? Once someone typed this for mine: "Does it get hot in Georgia?" The answer to that is: YES, it gets very hot, especially chasing after butterflies!
I have more butterflies to show you but that will have to wait until next time! Let's have a bit of music now, what do you say?
Look at the butterflies and enjoy their beauty!
I enjoyed looking at your butterflies. I haven't been looking to hard up here for any, especially when I'm out and about with my camera. You have some nice images here.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ed! Keep an eye out for butterflies! We find them hard to get photos of though, I think our butterflies are the fastest flying in the country!
DeleteKay, I love all those butterflies. I have seen very few this year around our property. It's kind of sad. I love the swallowtails. I did see two Monarchs at my daughter last week. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteMonarchs! You are so lucky! Whenever I see a Monarch, it is like the first time I have seen a butterfly in my life, I am that excited! Take care, sweet Susie! :-)
DeleteButterflies are lovely, Kay, and I enjoyed your photos and your voice very much. Sometimes I raised butterflies in my classroom so that my kiddos could observe metamorphosis. The tiny larvae freaked me out though when they first arrived. One very kind young male teaching assistant in our program for handicapped children would always come to my rescue. LOL Have a good one!
ReplyDeleteMy voice? You are so kind! The metamorphosis of a butterfly, that is an amazing thing. Wonderful that you did that in a classroom!
DeleteGreat pictures, Kay! I often see butterflies but am too slow with my camera to take any good pictures of them, I'm afraid.
ReplyDeleteYes, we've been on about the subject of how people come across our blogs via search terms a few times, haven't we! Some of the terms visitors have used to "land" on my blog are "old armchair" and "wellies", can you believe it :-D
Richard actually took better photos, to be honest, but I keep trying to get him to enter some into photo contest, that are that good, you know!
DeleteHA! Old armchair and wellies, that sounds like a little old granny lady like me, not a glamourous model like you! :-)
It's really cool that American States have their own state butterflies. I love these butterflies you've posted. I always get a kick out of seeing the butterfly house at the Seal Sanctuary I visit. The seals are the main attraction of course, but the butterflies are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIs that Natureland Seal Sanctuary in Skegness? If so, it looks amazing! I would also love to see the seals too
DeleteThanks for sharing the butterflies. They are beautiful creatures.
ReplyDeleteWe love our butterflies! It has been nice to see them come to our flowers on our back deck, and we can see them from the comfort of our living room!
DeleteButterflies are the beauties of the insect world, it's such fun to watch them.
ReplyDeleteWe enjoy them very much. This particular butterfly, we only just identified it, and we were thrilled to do so! :-)
DeleteThis is the reason they are called flying flowers. All the color and beauty and able to travel on waves of air. What more could you wish for?
ReplyDeleteColor and beauty on waves of air, that would be HOT air in Georgia! ;-)
DeleteWe do have gorgeous butterflies flies here in Georgia. Great photos.
ReplyDeleteWe DO have the most gorgeous butterflies, but it is so doggone hot to try and get photos of them, isn't it? :-)
DeleteI love butterflies but to see exotic species I have to go to a Butterfly 'Zoo'. Although I did see plenty in California. Having said that there are hundreds of beautiful butterflies and moths in the UK too.
