They bring the flowers that bloom in May.
So if it's raining, have no regrets,
Because it isn't raining rain, you know, (It's raining violets,)
And where you see clouds upon the hills,
You soon will see crowds of daffodils,
So keep on looking for a blue bird, And list'ning for his song,
Whenever April showers come along.
My friends, I have found it impossible lately to blog and I do hope you have all managed to somehow get along without me! (Yes, I know it must be very hard but you are all so strong!)
Richard and I attended Dusty's funeral on Saturday. It was very sad, of course but it was also very uplifting and moving. There was music and laughter along with the tears. One young man, who told us that Dusty was a mentor for him, sang a song on his guitar that he had written about Dusty. One of the lines, "He lived his whole life putting smiles on the faces of the people he met", had everyone nodding in agreement. At the end, he was given a standing ovation. How Dusty would have loved that!
At the end of the service, two guitarists played and sang the beautiful hymn, "How Great Thou Art". I love that song so much, I quietly sang, wishing that they would ask us to sing too. Then, they DID ask us to sing along! (Did they plan that or did they hear others singing too?) It was beautiful, "Sing for Dusty!", one of them said and you know I did!
It is a beautiful hymn but it was perfect for Dusty, for someone who loved life and nature and expressed joy and love as best as anyone I ever knew.
I found a video of Alan Jackson singing the song for you.
Like Dusty, he is a Georgia boy!
So sorry to hear about Dusty - it can be hard to blog when you are feeling sad. You have made a beautiful post with April flowers, and I really love that song April Showers: learnt it as a kid and still know every word. That brought a smile to my face, which I needed after a bit of a sad day with HB in the hospital.
ReplyDeleteand I love How Great thou Art too :)
I hope he is doing better now!
DeleteMaybe you should sing to him, and that will make him much better! :-)
Nice flower selection. Given a chance nature always renews itself and as we are just another part of it why can't we be recycled in some way as well.... so here's to a new morning waking up on a distant shore... reborn fresh and sparkling again.
ReplyDeleteWaking up on a distant shore, reborn and sparkling again, that is lovely.
DeleteDusty's memorial service leaflet (what do you call it?)
had a photo of a beach with footsteps on the sand, so your comment fits perfectly. Thank you.
Kay, Sorry about the loss of your friend. I just went back to the previous post. I have had a hard time blogging when I am sad. I hope the pretty flower on this post have helped you somewhat. I have always thought the flowers of spring were to cheer us up after a long winter. Blessings to you and your family, xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteI was surprised at how hard it has been this week to do anything, it has been really hard to concentrate at work. Lucky I am not a brain surgeon! :-)
DeleteBlessings to you, sweet Susie! x
The flowers are beautiful...So sad that this fine man died so soon. We need more men like him, not fewer.
ReplyDeleteMore men like him, not fewer...so true. Thank you, Kristi. x
DeleteLove the flowers. So sorry about your friend. Sigh. I loved 'How Great Thou Art', but I almost can't make it through listening to it and certainly singing it. It was the last song I heard my Mom sing, when she was in memory care, and not long before she left this world. She could still remember all the words and she had a beautiful voice. Hugs to you!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this with me, Kay. It must have been very special for you to hear your Mom sing this song, that is a lovely memory. x
DeleteWhat beautiful flowers! May is just wonderful. I'm sorry for your loss. I too have felt at a loss of words, when grief hit me so I understand what you are saying. I do love Alan Jackson songs. Music often soothes the soul.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Music is healing, I believe. It is a gift from God.
DeleteSounds like Dusty had a great and heartfelt sendoff. I have both of Alan Jackson's CDs of hymns; they are marvelous.
ReplyDeleteLove Alan Jackson. My Dad is his biggest fan!
DeleteWe lose the good too soon. Have always loved Alan Jackson's How Great Thou Art
ReplyDeleteI love that CD of his with the hymns. I have it and I have also bought it as gifts for others!
DeleteWe used to sing April Showers in music class at school. I was an alto so I sang harmony. You had a lovely good-bye to Dusty. What better way than to remember him with song.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I like Alan Jackson, I wish I could have found the song with two guitarists playing and singing it! It was beautiful.
DeleteSad day indeed.
ReplyDeleteWonderful array of flowers however.
I missed you!
This has been a very sad day today, after seeing the news of the tragedy in Manchester.
DeleteThanks for missing me!
Beautiful pictures! Flowers and music can be so soothing, can't they.
ReplyDeleteI find it nearly impossible to sing when I am deeply moved, either for joy or with grief. At Steve's funeral, I stopped singing after the first line of the first song.
All the flowers are from the month of May from the past few years. All are from Georgia except the last one, that is near the seafront in Eastbourne!
DeleteNow, I did sing the song but I fear that my voice was very shaky as I was crying also but I still sang, and with everyone singing, it was very moving.
My condolences for the loss of Dusty.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mimi.
DeleteYour flowers are so beautiful. It's so sad to lose a friend. I've just lost one too. I'm so sorry for your loss. It's very painful.
