Fresh air! You will forgive me if I look back on our trip to England remembering the fresh air along the seafront in Eastbourne. We are experiencing an exceptional drought in Georgia just now and there are wildfires burning in North Georgia. Even though these fires are more than a hundred miles away from us, the smoke has blown down into the metro Atlanta area today. This is not considered a problem for most but those with respiratory problems are advised to stay indoors. Ah, that would be me...my asthma inhaler is always nearby! Oh well, you know that reminds me of a song, right?
Anybody else noticed that I have not changed my header photo in a while? I have decided to not change it until it rains again! The last time we had rain was on Sept. 18th, and we only had a bit on that day and hardly any the weeks before. Please, pray for rain for us!
Had it been a long time before Sept 18? I'm watching a great documentary on the BBC via the marvelous Tunnelbear on Southern Rock - the Allmans, Lynyrd Skynyrd (the hardest words to spell!).
We think we have had only about 7 inches of rain since mid April. I can't remember the last time I heard the rain. (On Sept. 18th, I was at a family reunion and so, I didn't even hear it then!) Southern Rock! It's good stuff! "Turn It UP!"
The air by the ocean is uniquely refreshing. Love, love, love The Platters. I would like to be able to hit that note at the end of the song when he sings " (smoke gets in your eyes".
Our late summer and autumn were unusually dry, too, but not really a draught. Over the last few weeks, the weather has made up for it by interspersing a night here and a day there of rain. I hope it will rain soon in your area. When I hear about wildfires, it always makes me so worried about the animals; people are often warned beforehand and can escape, but what do the woodland animals do?
Love that song and always sing along when it's on!
I suspect that many of the animals must perish, the ones who cannot get away from the flames and the smoke fast enough. Our drought is terrible, I will be so glad to hear rain again, I can't tell you how much.
I'd happily send you some of ours Kay although I'm always conscious of the fact that water is one of the essentials of life and I never take it for granted.
I'm sorry to hear you are in drought and hope you get rain soon. But what a good excuse to mention one of my all-time favourite songs, Smoke Gets in Your Eyes! I used to play a great piano solo version of it, quite my party piece that was :)
OH! You know, you should play it on the piano and have someone record you and you could put it on YouTube! I would LOVE to hear it!! What do you say? Pretty please?
Guess what, while I was thinking of this song, I also listened to another one of their big hits..."Only You"...and discovered that it was a hit when I was about a year old! I love the thought of myself just learning to walk and hearing that song on the radio!
I know, it is so very dry that we worry that when it DOES rain, that it might truly cause some problems...we hope a gentle rain will fall first, and then, it could rain inches and inches!
I do remember that song well. Sorry to hear of your drought there. Wildfires are devastating for sure. I will be praying for you all to get some much needed rain. Here we had a dry spot in the heat of summer but have rebounded now and every thing is green again. Except for the leaves of course which are very colorful indeed.
We have had some pretty Fall color but it is so strange, because it was so hot still, and so very dry. It was as if Georgia had somehow become more like a desert. My Dad is 89 and he has never seen anything like this weather this year!
Praying for Rain for you all in Georgia....That includes my brother and sil in Alpharetta. We have lots of rain here! I would joyfully send you some if only I could. And what a beautiful song that is...It takes me back to my youth......"shortly after the earth cooled," as my friend Michelle says.
Lord, send the gentle rain. Forest fires certainly foul the air quality. Hope that those are under control soon. So if the header changes I know it has rained? Hope I can remember this...

DeletePraying you get rain in amounts your soil can handle without flooding and over a long enough time to end the drought!

DeleteOther than Matthew we haven't had any rain in forever and none is forecast, can't believe we're having to water in November.
